Shinobo: Don't worry, I'm not angry *John Cena Meme*: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT? (also I tried pasting the gif but I was unable :(. )

Biggest gaslight in the show so far, making you believe Tanjiro actually killed Lower Five 🤣 SO rude. And then Giyu just comes in and ends it without any effort. I actually love this because it shows you the gaps in skill levels. Big gap between Tanjiro and Rui, a Twelve Kizuki, but even bigger gap between Rui and Giyu, a Hashira. So the skill gap between Tanjiro and Giyu? FAR. This whole ordeal made that morphed demon and the Tamari demon look like nothing. Can't wait for you to see more of him and the other Hashira. Speaking of, we finally meet Shinobu 👀 she's frightening, to say the least. Do NOT judge a book by its cover, she seems sweet until she speaks haha. I have to admire your hopes and wishes for some of these demons to be spared, but as we just saw....yeah that was not going to happen. In fact her death was anything but merciful. Tanjiro, so far, is an enigma in his empathy. But even with that Mother demon who surrendered, I don't think Tanjiro would have spared her, either. Next few episodes will be very interesting, both for Rui and seeing these other demon slayers.

Ah yes, my best girl, Shinobu

Was so excited for you to get to this episode from the beginning of this arc. Rui's "family" dynamic being built on terror, torture, and an imbalance of power is so interesting. This show does a good job of establishing a rule ("Demons dont work together, as a general rule") and then throwing variations and seeming contradictions at you to make you question it. Seeing how that plays out and then fits into the established world building is so satisfying to me, and I was looking forward to your take on the reveal. Rui's beheading is another great example of that - demons die if beheaded with Nichirin swords, but not if they remove their own head to prevent it. 2 interesting details about that - part of the reason Tanjiro's slash had extra power was that Nezuko's blood fell on it when she was tied up above him. When she activated her Demon Art Exploding Blood, the blood on his blade exploded (there's a shot where it zooms in on the glowing droplets). In a small line there, Rui also questions why only his threads got burned by her Demon Art, not Tanjiro. A follow-up from last episode - when Rui beheaded "Sister" and told her go to kill the other demon slayers on the mountain, her hair wasnt cut like "Mother's" was. Emphasizing that symbolism that you pointed out previously. Also, interesting that he took away all of their names and reduced them to their family roles. Only he gets to be called by his name in the family.

My girl is here!!!! I love Shinobu so much, I'm glad you appreciate her! I think you are misunderstanding something, though! She fully intends to let the demon live, if they agree to be tortured. As she said to the sister, as a demon, she would survive without any physical repercussions. I think in her mind, if a demon really regretted their actions, they would agree to atone in some way. But how could they do that in a meaningful way? She mirrors the buddhist hell, which is supposed to be only temporary and a place of purification! It's probably the only way she can reconcile the ideas of letting a demon survive and avenging their victims at the same time! As always, it was a pleasure to watch your reaction <3

Japanese was my language credit in college, and when I started taking it some of the basics helped me with pronouncing Japanese names so much because the structure of the language is very different from English. There aren't "Vowels" the way we have them. Each consonant has its own vowelization. EG: a i u e o ka ki ku ke ko sa shi su se so ta chi tsu te to na ni nu ne no ha hi fu he ho ma mi mu me mo ya yu yo ra ri ru re ro ga gi gu ge go za zi zu ze zo etc etc... (I almost listed them all) wa wo / n <-- real rebels down here All the 'i' sounds are like ee, and pretty much all the vowelizations sound alike, ki, shi, mi, ti etc all have that ee sound. So Kimetsu No Yaiba for example is pronounced "kee.meh.tsu - no - yah.ee.bah" Once you know that it becomes easy to reason that given Giyu's name is gi.yu. To get the pronunciation "Guy you" you would have to spell it ga.i.yu I hope that came off as more excited to share info than preachy :D

I love Shinobu's distinctive style of speech. Her VA also does Yor Forger (Spy X Family), another sweet but deadly character.

Shinobu is my favorite demon slayer character, I'm glad you like her and are so intrigued by her💞

Shinobu’s one of my favourite characters so I can’t wait until you know more about her! She’s a really fascinating character with a lot of depth but unfortunately, gets overlooked in the fandom due to her fighting style and demeanor.

Looove how you're enjoying watching Shinobu! <3 She's one of my top faves in the series and I can't wait for you to know more about her!

I really love Shinobu. Her blade and use of poison is so unique and fitting for someone who is associated with insects, I really love it. Next episode is a tear jerker, do prepare for that. I love that this show is very good at making you see where the most important villains are coming from, and even with the less important ones, more often than not you get this really good sense of what they're feeling. Like, the father was probably an example of a demon whose intelligence was taken away, and he was now just the brute force of a father without any of the emotion of an actual father. His only phrase was "Don't you come close to my family". If you go back and rewatch, that's all you hear him say. In any case, that's what I wanted to say.

Sammja Isais

Right, I also wanted to say, found family as we understand it as a trope and irl is more of a serendipity. It's a bond that you form unexpectedly. As a kid, you find an adult who cares for you like you were their own child. You find an older kid who treats you like a sibling both lightheartedly messing with you and helping you because they've grown to love you. A younger kid you sort of take under your wing to help then through troubles. Maybe even growing up and being a parental figure to someone who isn't necessarily your child. But those things blossom naturally and are nourished by closeness, openness, warmth, love. Those bonds cannot be forced into existence. You cannot force someone to fit a certain role to fit into your life. You cannot just force people to like you, much less love you. Rui couldn't understand that, and that's why he couldn't get what he wanted.
