Lustful~Mirage

This was pretty much mostly what I remember of this entire arc and I was thinking "Yeah, this is the part that's going to cause the sobbing" 😭 I remember getting emotional the first time seeing it and I wasn't even that super into it 😆 genuinely made me cry 😢

Goldie

We only had Rengoku for a few episodes but the way he haunts the narrative 😭 (Im also a fucking mess watching this and now I have to go to work)

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I AM SO SORRY GOLDIE!! If it helps I also had to log back in to work after filming this :') so solidarity!

Mickael Landry

I've been sitting on a couple of cool insights about Rengoku, and it's perfect timing to share them now that you've finished his arc! Get ready, because some of this might even resonate with you a little bit – turns out Rengoku and you🫵 have something in common! So, first off, you know how Rengoku is always shouting "Umai!" when he eats? 🍜 It's not just because he's that super passionate guy (though he totally is!). Back in the day, warriors were actually taught to really, really savor every single mouthful of food. You know, the idea being it could genuinely be their last. So, his "delicious!" was kinda his subconscious way of just soaking in that moment, which, unfortunately, ended up being his final meal. I totally couldn't tell you this before, or you'd have been even more convinced he was a goner! Secondly, that dream sequence Rengoku has? It's way more emotional than it first seems. My bad if my earlier thoughts in Episode 3 will  contradict this one 🙈 – it might in fact have mixed some real memories (like his dad's coldness and feeling abandoned) with Rengoku's own hopeful thoughts (the idealized part of his dream), especially seeing Senjuro so distressed. We know it's not some perfect family reunion fantasy or him making up with his dad. But instead, it MIGHT be a peek into his deepest, unspoken regrets and wishes, and a lot of that seems to be about Senjuro (you in fact touched on that in your intro in episode 5). The way he talks to his younger brother in that dream, who's clearly feeling insecure, is like Rengoku carefully crafting the exact words he WISHES he could have said (maybe because he was always so busy being a demon slayer). It really shows how much he wanted Senjuro to believe in himself and feel totally loved. Since that conversation never occurred 😔 (again, a pretty solid theory I stumbled upon), Rengoku actually used his very last moments in the real world to make sure Tanjiro passed on that exact message to Senjuro 🗣: "Follow the path your heart dictates." 💖 And lastly this is the ABSOLUTE kicker, the detail that will totally blow your mind and make you feel on a personal level closer to the Flame Hashira! You remember at the end of that epic fight with Akaza, how loud he was screaming, and Tanjiro had to cover his ears?  Well, when the camera panned back to Rengoku, you might have noticed the sound just... got way quieter, right?🔊🎚 That's because Rengoku is actually... SEMI-DEAF! 🦻 Seriously! And that's why, sometimes, his voice can get a little loud – he can't always hear himself perfectly. Now, here's the wild part: this isn't even something you find out in the anime! It's from a special one-shot manga that came out later. It tells the story of Rengoku's very first mission as a young demon slayer. He ran into this demon who was using a flute, and the music was basically a spell that messed with your brain! 🪈🎶🧠 His buddies, who were already super weakened, had to use sign language to warn him because they couldn't speak. If Rengoku had actually heard the music, his brain would have sent totally scrambled signals. Like, he'd try to move his right arm, and his left leg would twitch instead! 🔄 One wrong move and he would have been toast. But our incredibly brave Rengoku? He stuffed his hands SO hard into his ears, basically sacrificing his own hearing to take down that demon. And that's how he got his hearing damage. You can confidently give a look since it won't be shown in the anime. 📖 (1) https://kommodo.ai/i/cwhJlkI453iQqCF89Y87 (2) https://kommodo.ai/i/dxaBpvg5whl8dveDtQi8 Seriously, when you start adding all these little details, you just appreciate Rengoku even more. He wasn't just some super strong fighter; he had this insane inner strength and spirit, even when he was fighting his own quiet battles. How cool is that?! RIP Kyojuro Rengoku, he's such a legend 🥹

Mickael Landry

Okay, you were SO right about that Episode 1 moment! You super-observant brain (or maybe just your eyes being trained to spot these things!) totally picked up on that line Rengoku said to the old lady and her granddaughter, and it felt like a giant, flashing "SPOILER ALERT" sign! 🚩 Seriously, when he said, "I promise to tell my father about you two. Now then, take care! Let's meet again one day!", your Spidey-senses were tingling. 🕷⚠️ It totally screamed "final words"! And then, adding to that, seeing as you mentioned in your outro how much the other Hashiras clearly admired him in that post-credit scene? It was like, "Yep, this awesome guy is definitely going to perish and be missed a lot." This is exactly why I'm now realizing how our whole "episode 1 first or later" chat between  your followers might have accidentally given away as well his demise! Otherwise for what other reason is it such a big debate? 😅 It’s like we were dropping little clues about Rengoku's fate without even realizing it. Honestly, looking back, it makes SO much sense why some people suggest watching the Mugen Train movie BEFORE episode 1 (or even watching episode 1 AFTER episode 7). If you don't have that prequel to build up those emotional preparations beforehand, Rengoku's death hits you harder like a ton of bricks. 🧱 I can totally picture how your shock and surprise at Rengoku's demise during the movie, without any foreshadowing, would have been even more intense. I hope you don’t think I’m saying you didn’t feel the weight of that tragic loss – your reactions were definitely genuine!🧻💦 But I believe your reactions would have been pure with no expectation, unadulterated emotion, your anxiety levels likely through the roof, and I bet that's where the real magic of the experience truly lies! 🫢 Thinking about it now, I can imagine a hypothetical version of you watching the movie first or starting with episode 2. It would be a complete gut punch, and then diving into episode 1 afterward would be like, "WHOA, SO THAT'S WHY THIS ORDER MATTERS SO MUCH!" It’s a really fascinating thought experiment! I watched the movie first too, and the dread of losing Rengoku only really set in – just like I'm sure it did for tons of other fans – during that absolutely brutal battle where Akaza was having a blast. 😈❄️ I know you’re usually very good at predicting character deaths, but honestly, the way the movie is set up, it’s tough to see Rengoku’s fate coming, especially when the scenes flow one after another without giving time to process them emotionally. Most viewers on YouTube have been in disbelief like, “WAIT, is he really gonna die❓️ We just met him—no way⁉️” 📺😧 So, here’s a bit of a tricky but fun idea for your next video reaction intro! Could you maybe touch briefly if you don't mind on that hypothetical situation and how experiencing it in a different order might have changed (or NOT changed? 😅) the emotional impact for you? Thanks for all your brilliant insights! YOU’RE THE BEST! 🙌

"Mother. It was an honor for me to have been born to such a person as you" the most beautiful compliment you can ever imagine from your child

DrSophieDarlingReacts

There were still a lot of moments outside of 2 x 1 that made me clock on to him dying so it wouldn't have changed anything or lessened the impact of his death. After all - I've clocked on to numerous characters dying in other shows and been right. It's not like that singular episode would have prevented me from coming to terms with that or knowing it. He was very much set up for it in the arc. I'd be more shocked if people didn't come to that conclusion already even when watching the movie. I can safely say I would have likely clocked onto it and it wouldn't have changed or lessened the emotional impact. Sorry if my comment comes across as snarky but I am sick and tired of this whole movie vs tv show debate or you HAVE to watch in this order. It's very much just let reactors watch the way they want to watch (that's not aimed at you btw) in the order they want to whether that be release or not. It's so exhausting. It's the same content. It does feel quite insulting to say 'pure experience' as if I didn't have a full on break down over his death and felt the weight of it. Whether you meant it or not it does imply that my reaction wasn't 'good enough' because you're stressing how it would have been altered by watching the movie. I know you don't mean it to come across that way but it very much reads "your emotions would have been better watching the movie" and assuming that would be the case which does feel like a judgement. As for Rengoku's dream - I said exactly that in 1 x 5 that it's what he desires to say to his brother. Again - I know you don't mean it to come across as a judgement but with the whole debate of TV vs Movie and the hate I've been receiving on YouTube in relation to not watching the movie, bringing up the idea that my emotions would have been more 'pure' touches a nerve for me. Which is more of a me issue than anything but after pouring my heart out in the react I really don't think it's a question of 'pure' or 'more genuine' because it couldn't have got more so than this.

Rengoku‘s innocent, genuine little smile when his Mom tells him he made her proud will never not get me. As you said in that moment you can really see he‘s just a kid

Hi Sophie! What a wonderful reaction! Thank you for always reacting with sincerity and sharing these moments with us <3. So, this is it! Even though I love all Demon Slayer with passion, this arc will always stay with me as my favorite. I fell in love with Rengoku and never looked back! Do you think he will get a tattoo? The crows are the unsung heroes of the Corps! They are so faithful to their masters and contribute so much to the Corps' effort! They all have names, of course, and I wished the show mentionned all of them. The name of Rengoku's crow is Kaname! Rest well after all those emotions and I can't wait for the next reaction <3

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I'm actually already planning where to put his katana and his crow :') Yeah that devastated me. The fact that his crow was noted in the Taisho Secret to NEVER leave his side and is always with him only to see his crow mourn for him and watch his passing. Soul crushing!

Caroline O.

Oh, I can't wait to see it! Kyojuro and his crow will always break my heart, they've been together for years! Another fact, though I'm not sure this one is official, is that Rengoku didn't give Kaname any collar like some of the other Hashiras did because "Kaname is perfect the way he is!". Another beautiful and sad thing is his name: Kyojuro's first name contains the kanjis for "apricot" (杏 kyō), "longevity" (寿 ju) and "son" (郎 rō). In japanese culture, the apricot blossom represent health in longevity. His parents really wished he could have a long and healthy life!

I’m really sorry to see  that my previous comment upset you; that was never my intention. 🫤 Reading your reply makes me realize how badly I messed up my phrasing, and I feel awful for adding to the exhaustion and stress you are already dealing with from YouTube comments. I genuinely appreciate your insights and the emotional depth you bring to your reactions. I think, that episode 1 gives away from my POV too many hints about Rengoku's fate. I was thus curious to know how you see this now that his arc is finished, if it doesn't take away the element of surprise. And the fact that there's an ongoing discussion and debate about the order suggests also to my view something about Rengoku's upcoming end, something significant to consider regarding his character arc. That being said, I truly admire your authenticity and the way you express your feelings during your reactions. I don't remember seeing you cry this much (maybe for your darling Armin in AOT🧻💦). Watching you pour your heart out and see how deeply Rengoku loss affected you is incredibly moving. It’s clear how much Rengoku’s story resonates with you, and I didn’t mean to imply that your emotions weren’t genuine or impactful!!!!!! I think the tension really builds during his confrontation with Akaza, and that’s where the fear of losing him for many started to hit hard. . I also didn't fully realize how toxic and exhausting the TV vs Movie debate has been for you behind the scenes. You are entirely right—it is the same beautiful story either way, and reactors should absolutely be left to experience it exactly how they choose. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me, and I hope you can see that I’m coming ALWAYS from a place of appreciation for your work. 👌 So I apologize once more if my words in my 2nd comment felt like an attack or seemed that way; I might have expressed myself poorly or used clumsy words. I’m really not like some YouTube members who slam you for not having seen the movie and you shouldn't have to endure criticism from anyone about it. XOXO 😉👐

st4rmin

Rengoku is a legend, but he was just a kid after all and he deserved so much better 💔 I'm so excited to see your next reacts ! The Entertainment District Arc is my favorite, and the animation, music and story just get better and better !

Cirac1

Time to add "Set your heart ablaze" to the motivational mantras alongside "Because it's what Himel the Hero would do.".

Kirk Murray

With all the utmost respect, did you get spoiled when it came to the Mugen train arc? For me it felt like you knew the outcome before most of the plot unfolded.

Anna Kyruin

After rewatching several times I have to say how much I love Inoske's response to Rengoku's death. It's heartfelt and honest, hilarious, and despite the flood of tears a sign of his new resolve.

Antonio

Ep 1 is anime original and was made after the movie and is pretty much a love letter to Rengoku's character. When people watch it first before ever having seen Mugen Train it raises a ton of death flags because (especially in battle animes) death of a mentor is a pretty common trope that can be foreseen from miles away if you're putting any effort into analyzing the story.

Buzzard

I must have seen Mugen Train forty times, and I still cry when Rengoku's mother appears at the end.😢

Ilurandir

Oh my god... I am about to watch your reaction, and i am so not ready... All the movies and tv show i've watched this year and maybe even 2 years and i wasn't feeling it from them. But this... This broke me. I was sobbing like une chienne... And knowing that you're such an empathetic person, and knowing that i cry even more when i see other people cry... Yeah... sending you and in a bit to my future self hugs🫂. And again so impressed that you guessed the plot so perfectly from the first episode of the 2nd season. The first time i somehow didn't catch all the details of the story leading to Rengoku's death, but when you pointed it out, it was so obvious, heh

L

That and when his crow was crying gets me every time

Maristella

To this day seeing Rengoku die still makes me cry, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen Mugen Train reaching that part kills me. And sometimes if I’m thinking about Rengoku I get a bit choked up and it’s so stupid because it’s like I’m crying over a real person that died. Rengoku is so well written and this isn’t the last time he gets mentioned as he pops up every once in a while each season. And in the Infinity Castle Part 1.

Miło

I think the most important thing you said is ‘they are just kids.’ I absolutely hate when people get mad at characters for not being able to handle everything mentally. Itadori is a crybaby, Tanjiro is a crybaby, and Deku is a crybaby too, yeah, no shit, Sherlock. They’re freaking kids watching the people they care about getting slaughtered around them daily. I really appreciate that you understand that.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

You watched my entire react to the arc where I broke down all my thoughts and lay out the foreshadowing and you still think I'd sit and fake it? For what? I have been nothing but honest with this channel. If I was spoiled I would have said it. No. I wasn't spoiled. You've been around long enough to see me break down other character deaths way before they happened. Why would this be any different? You see the amount of analysing I do and I even give evidence for my thoughts! Even with your utmost respect, I won't lie this really hurt coming from you with how long you've been here and seen how much I analyse. Feels like a kick in the teeth if I'm honest when I pride myself on authenticity. I appreciate that's not your intention but to ask if I was spoiled implies that I then faked an entire react to information I already knew including my analysis and emotions. Which I would never do.

icyfire

Tanjiro crying of frustration always gets me... tears were shed along side yours 😭

domi

I find it so funny that we dont know anything abt the train demons life story despite him being the main antagonist of the arc. Sad to see that the episodes dont sub the ending song, though considering your state at the end maybe you wouldnt have been able to process it anyway lol, but when i watched the movie i remember crying but like, less than a few minutes before, and then bam, song that makes you start crying again 🥹😭🥹😭. I love when anime songs are so clearly written with the story in mind. Theres a video on youtube of LiSA singing it, with just a piano i think, and even she gets choked up. Here are the lyrics in case you wanna check them: "Goodbye" and "Thank you" at the top of my voice What's more important than grief Hoping that they reach you as we part In time for the warmth and pain I thought it would always be like this I envisioned our days to come Why, when our lights calling out to each other Still burn deep in our hearts? We met amidst a blazing journey Coming together, then letting go for the sake of the future Every time a dream comes true, I'll remember you Wishing to become stronger I cried with my resolve as the parting gift Held captive by nostalgic memories Wailing at the cruelty of this world There will be even more as I grow older I never want to lose anything again By succumbing to the grief I might not feel pain anymore But your words Your wishes I swore to protect them to the end With a roar, it's crumbling down Our one and only, irreplaceable world The bundle of bursting light that I reached out for and held so close Shimmered, then disappeared for the sake of the future Going beyond the happiness and promises I've been entrusted I'll keep moving forward without glancing behind Looking straight ahead, I'm going to cry out Lighting the flames in my heart Until I reach that distant future...

DrSophieDarlingReacts

If I hadn't disassociated before I would have even more so seeing those lyrics!!!!

Mickael Landry

The reason I'm sending this new message following Kirk Murray's comment is that I'm concerned about what you may encounter on YouTube, and to be honest, I'm already feeling anxious for you 😟. It's exactly what I anticipate from that platform. To be clear, I'm not trying to defend anyone who questions and will question your authenticity👎; I'm always going to be on your side. That said, I can see (NOT ACCEPT) why some people might throw that accusation your way on YouTube. I think it's because: 1. You quickly figured out that Rengoku wasn't going to make it through his arc. 2. You predicted early on that his death would shock the other Hashiras and act as a catalyst to bring them even closer together. 3. You foresaw that the Lower Moon wasn't the main enemy in this mission and that an Upper Moon demon would show up. 4. You anticipated (based on their similarities) that Tanjiro would eventually at some point take over Rengoku's role. All these points you've considered might clumsily lead some to believe that you had the story all mapped out, when in reality, it's just a testament to your AMAZING DEDUCTION SKILLS and attention to detail. 🕵🏻‍♀️👏👏👏 I don't know if you'll ultimately decide to post your reactions on YouTube▶️💻, which can be toxic as you rightly pointed out to me, but if you do end up facing that kind of painful suspicion, just know that you have all my support and that of your Patreon members. 🫂

WondrousMay

🫂🫂🫂 “Set your heart ablaze” is up there with “Dedicate your heart” for me as one of those quotes that will stay with you for a long time. Mugen Train arc really took the story to another level because up until now, Tanjiro and co. managed to win over the demons despite everything. But here, with an Upper Moon showing up and defeating Rengoku raised the stakes in a big way. Tanjiro declaring that Rengoku was the winner and calling Akaza a coward is one of my favourite scenes from the story. It’s just so powerful!!! Thank you for a wonderful and emotional reaction as always! I look forward to your reactions to the Entertainment District arc! It’s one of my favourite arcs!!

Gpinko

This ending was BEAUTIFULLY done. 10/10. Tanjiro SWEARING at someone in his grief and anguish, and his absolute cry of despair never fails to get me. Inosukes shaking and crying was also heartbreaking. Has he ever had a mentor figure like this in his life? As far as we know; no. I know you haven't gotten to know the others yet, but I don't think I need to explain why Rengoku is my favorite Hashira 🔥 His last declaration to Tanjiro, telling him that he believes in Nezuko and accepts her as a member of the Demon Slayers; he's going to carry that with him forever. I was absolutely there crying with you the first time, in fact it's very rare i don't see someone cry during this scene. Set your heart ablaze 🔥

Mickael Landry

I completely agree! Seeing Inosuke—who always tries to act so tough—totally break down after losing Rengoku was powerful. What I loved most, though, was how he stepped up to comfort Tanjiro with that surprisingly wise pep talk. It perfectly highlights Inosuke's growth and maturity. Moments like this prove that even though Tanjiro carries so much on his shoulders, he has a true support system in his friends when things get dark. We all have that one friend or family member like Tanjiro who just knows the right words to say when things get tough. So it's heartwarming to witness someone else stepping up to comfort that empathetic friend every now and then.

Kirk Murray

I think there may have been a misunderstanding regarding my original comment. When I asked whether you had been spoiled during the Mugen Train arc, I genuinely meant it as a question and not as an accusation. That's why I started my comment with "with all due respect." At no point was I suggesting that you fake reactions or that your channel lacks authenticity. In fact, I've been subscribed for a long time and have never questioned your honesty or the way you approach your content. My question was limited to that specific arc because it felt, from my perspective, like you were putting pieces together unusually early. Given how analytical you are, that's obviously a testament to your ability to pick up on foreshadowing, but I was simply curious and asked the question. I can understand why my comment bothered you, especially since authenticity is something you take pride in. That genuinely wasn't my intention. At the same time, I was a little surprised by the strength of your response because I wasn't challenging your entire body of work or accusing you of faking anything. It was meant as a single, respectful question about a specific reaction. In any case, I appreciate you taking the time to respond and explain how you felt. While I regret that my comment came across the way it did, I hope you can understand that it was asked in good faith and without any intent to undermine your credibility.

Mei

Ended up a crying mess with you. 😭 Tanjiro screaming at Akaza to not run away, that he's a coward, and saying Rengoku didn't lose to him always get to me 😭 then Rengoku's last words for them all and him seeing his mom 😭 Watching the episodes make us appreciate more of Rengoku since we spend more time mulling over his character so there's better attachment vs just seeing him on the movie. While the movie's amazing, I think there's more impact because we don't really feel that we've only been with Rengoku in one day(night? Maybe even less than 24hrs, counting the Hashira intro scene) that much with the episodes. So glad you chose this option! I think you'd like Akaza, so I'm looking forward to the time you get to know his backstory. :D

Leah Henderson

I was messy, too, like...all throughout. I need to hear Rengoku's speech whenever I'm having a bad day. The music would get me, the scenes with his mother, the boys all sobbing...ughhgh. Then I thought I might be done crying and they have to show his crow with that little tear! So beautifully done from beginning to end. I also marveled that Rengoku is a character we've known for less than 10 episodes and here I am bawling my eyes out at his death! Great react, as usual! I hope you had some rest and lots of water after that one!

2danimehoe

Once again I sobbed with you the entire time 🤧❤️‍🩹 Mugen train arcs is insane and every time I re-watch it it hits the same!!! I really wanna point out something about Tanjiro here, I don't remember if it was confirmed so don't take it to heart, but I remember reading that the reason Tanjiro was crying and grieving so intensely was not only because of Kyoujuro's death, but also because it was the first time he could be vulnerable enough to grieve for his family as well!!! I always thought that was a devastating (not sure if it's confirmed) fact. I also saw another person commented on Lisa's ending song, but I wanna say that I was kind of disappointed that the site your watching DS from didn't translate you the lyrics of the song. I hope in the future that you'll look it up Sophie, because Lisa's favorite character is Kyoujuro and she wrote that beautiful song truly dedicating it and relating it to him (while she was also going through a really rough break up). If you get the chance pls watch her first take of Homura, because you can feel the emotions through the screen 🥺💓💓 (Sorry for yapping so much hehe)
