Just a quick info because I remember you started One Piece a while ago and stopped again because it was too much too soon: We‘re actually getting a full remake of the entire series animated by Wit studio (the studio that animated Attack on Titan‘s first three seasons). It will be called „The One Piece“ and it will fix the immense pacing issues the original anime had. Launch is set for February 2027, a trailer was posted earlier today on YouTube and it looks GORGEOUS! This might be a great chance to experience the show in real time, with great animation and with way less episodes. Just in case you might be interested!

Hi Sophie! You've met my favorite demon! Daki is fascinating to me, because she so cleverly took advantage of a situation that was designed to strip the women in the Yoshiware of any form of power. On a superficial level, Oirans were powerful in the district. The clients were awestrucked by them and willing to pay absurd amount of money to spend time with them and the owner of their brothel favored them. But it was no free gift. All the money the owner spend for them were supposed to be paid back and the clients weren't paying them, they were paying the house, so they couldn't keep some of the money. The little girls were not the only person the Oirans were supposed to take care of and they had they own expenses. Those lavish kimonos costed insane amounts of time and money to make, and Oirans were pitted against each other to attract clients by spending more and more on clothes, jewelry and bedding. They could only keep up with it by selling gifts from their clients. The Yoshiwara's rules were made to keep even the most successful Oiran into crippling debts, until a client paid it for them or they went into retiremnent. But Daki doesn't care about leaving the district, it's her playground! She can disappear and shapeshift, like all demons can, so she can change house whenever she pleases. She also seems to target middle grade houses, so that they depend entirely on her earnings if they want to prosper; she probably killed any other concubines moving up the ranks to not lose her position of power in the house. So yes, she's very clever and knows how to play the rules at her advantage! Sorry for the long rant, I couldn't help myself! Thank you once again for the wonderful reaction and I hope that you'll keep enjoying this arc <3

So little fun fact. Not a spoiler in any way it would be a taisho secret if it was ever stated, but seeing the way muzan treats akaza and daki so differently is funny when you know that akaza is muzans favorite, and muzan considers daki nothing more than a "stupid child"

Purely FYI, there's also another existing version worth considering: One PACE. Because One Piece doesnt really do filler or take any breaks, it's been caught up to the manga for years (decades?). The only way to sustain this and not get ahead is to draaaaaaaaaaaag everything out, slowing the pacing of every episode to an absolute crawl with reaction shots, reshowing the same scenes over and over, and huge pauses to build "tension". One Pace is a fan edit that is unbelievably well done. It takes the original show and cuts out all the padding with the goal of making everything more manga-accurate. It cuts down the total runtime by something like 45%.

The pauses are really working well btw! I think you've struck a nice balance where it's not too much, but allows you to get in nice commentary without potentially missing lines. Also, maybe I missed it, but did you notice that after Daki struck Zenitsu, she switched over to using male pronouns for him? It wasnt only that she realized he wasnt a civilian

Everytime Muzan appears with that outfit, my mind goes hee hee! I love the arc bc we get to see so much of Inosuke without his mask, hes so pretty uwu. Also Daki is so pretty too and her VA is perfect for her, that whole scene with the madam is crazy, the silences and her expression? i dont know where that woman got the courage to speak. Kind of unncesary, since the answer of when the scene takes place in is the same as what u said (but its never bad to learn something new so), when the episode mentioned edo it was the city; tokyo used to be called edo -in the edo period- lol

Muzan😈: No one is as beautiful as you Daki. Nor as strong. You've disposed of seven Hashira. Sophie😲: Seven⁉️ Defying the Upper Moons isn't being brave; it's practically volunteering for the afterlife! 🙈 The Hashira are literally the best of the best in the Demon Slayer Corps, and they still get wiped out like rookies by Upper Ranks. Honestly, this is where we have to put even more respect on Kyojuro Rengoku's name. Pushing Upper Rank Three, Akaza, to the absolute brink of death against all odds was SUPERHUMAN! 💪🏻🗡🔥

Daki is my second favorite Upper Demon design-wise! She’s both menacing and terrifying which makes her a fascinating villain for this arc. This episode also made me warm up to Zenitsu in a big way. I loved that he stood up for the little girls despite knowing that Daki is a demon. His kindness is underrated.
