It feels like every few years or so YouTube releases a new policy which makes alot of stress for creators for a little while, then leaves us to deal with the fallout. (Remember COPPA back in 2019?!)

This time, YouTube has seen it fit to de-monetise any sounds which are 'sexually gratifying'.....fill in the blanks to that ambiguous phrase as you will because we all certainly have!

Whilst I don't have a problem with this new 'law' necessarily, the problem I have is YouTube's absolute lack of understanding of what ASMR is and blanket flagging of videos.

Like, aside from the obvious 'audio p*orn' - what the hell would they flag as 'sexually gratifying' on an ASMR video?! Like, there are people out there who have married and believe they are in a sexual relationship with the empire state building for goodness sake...! Anyone can find anything 'sexually gratifying'.

So now we all must tread on egg shells once more to second guess everything we create for fear of being de-monetised or even banned from youtube.

I am SO GLAD that I have this platform to share content I WANT to make without fear of being kicked off it!

I know that some of you will be missing your favourite content creators videos as they pull them from YouTube, so, what would YOU like to see me make on here which may upset YouTube; because f*ck em! :D

youtube has proven time and again that they keep things vague enough to punish up and coming content creators while allowing big ones who violate the rules around because they make them more money. you can see that its obvious with the recent drama

Voodoo Monkey

I'm glad it's not discouraging you. It's weird though, like why does everyone else have to be punished for the few who make things weird? Lol. Like kissing sounds for example are a huge ASMR trigger, but you can totally get sexually gratified listening to that if that's what you're into I guess. You can't control how people enjoy content that is made. It would be hilarious if you made an ASMR video just doing all of the things YouTube would frown upon as a big middle finger. Like ASMR where you say "F*CK" or "B!TCH" in various way. Funny enough the sounds in those words are similar to a lot of trigger words. A one minute video where you say "F!CK YouTube" in every ASMR trigger technique you can think of.

Youtube seems to be extremely misogynistic to me. From the way they allow huge channels pushing hate speech against women to just keep going without repurcussion to the way they constantly scrutenize and try to control how women dress in videos to now what sounds they can make -- coz let's be honest, this rule isn't meant for the male ASMRtists. It's a shame there's not a viable alternative easily available for wll creators. I am happy to support you here, though.

Ceryk

My guess is it is targeting stuff like wet mouth sounds and ear licking, but it's so vague it's hard to know. I don't think it will help anyone, just hurt content creators. I have seen the sexual asmr stuff, there is just no comparison.

If YT doesn't understand ASMR and is going to flag what they deem sexually gratifying, maybe mouth sounds will be on the list? I've always found them extremely strange and off-putting, but that's just me. I don't want to stop anyone from making what they want to make though. But it seems, perhaps, that YT will (even if it isn't mouth sounds).

Adam

To answer your question of 'what do you want to see here?'........You. 😊

Deviraux

I am willing to admit that I am one of those that does like the erotic ASMR. I don't believe you are going to be doing that type of content so I won't ask for it. But as for triggers I love that might get taken down even if they aren't sexual. The breathing video you did recently is exactly the kind of thing I am afraid to lose. That has been goosebumps for me many many times now. Tingles so strong I can barely stand them. And yt it totally going to take them away from me xD

Bulnoc

I didn't know they had something new going on. It's sad really if you look at all the ASMR artists and videos that are obviously non-sexual but are being pushed into defense mode. ASMR videos have piled up so many views that YT should be thankful for loads of revenue generated by specifically this genre. I like the idea of swear word trigger words, combined with triggers that would make YT's medieval mindset collapse. 😈

Damian Scisci

I think YouTube does everything they can to keep more of their ad money for themselves. That's the long and short of it.

Nick Siwak

I think it's 💩 yt is awful now

Joz_eddy

Do you want to describe the empire state building?

Digby

Time for that service to change its name to PrudeTube for all the "think-of-the-children" policing and restrictions they've instituted in the last few years.

Macaroon1701

idk the swearing one or words that upset yt video does sound funny, but id say in general i wanna see content you want to make, if you want to make something that will break yt age restrictions then go for it! i dont really mind what the content is as long as its something you wanted to make! :)

ScooBy932

I really enjoy everything you put out, so I am good with most anything. I find it humerous that YT thinks they know what is sexually gratifying to people. It is like them saying they know what people like to eat. If you make a video that irritates YT and they de-monetise it, I will send you $50. Good luck with this foolishness from them.

Youtube (and other big sites) are too large to moderate by humans so they use bots. They keep the terms vague so when the bots wipe out a perfectly innocent vid they don't have to admit any wrongdoing. One of my fave ASMRtists had a gentlemans' suit fitting RP pulled for 'sexual content' at a time when certain infamous creators were deliberately pushing the envelope of decency. As for stuff I'd like to see, whatever you want to make and as far as you want to take it! More mouth sounds and body brushing is always good tho.

Ah the great american nanny state stares down its nose at us again, wagging its finger and saying naughty naughty. Can't show a boob or similar but gun porn thats just fine. Have millons of homeless, or invade other countries , no problem. But dare to hint or suggest a tingle for someone and its a banning for you. Thankfully you have here and I am more glad to have signed up now. As for what to suggest, only what you are comfortable with long term. I too would be annoyed/angry but lets not be too impulsive lol. Do a bikini try on video while reading from the Youtube guidence manual in a low husky voice .... would be fun I think and a suitable protest. lol. Probably best to leave that as a wicked thought. I'll continue to support you as best I can here, I think Youtubes days are numbered. But unfortunately nothing is out there to replace it .... yet !

Nick Siwak

Aha hahaha!!!!🤣🤣🤣 I finally read the full post, today was nuts at work. But mouth sounds videos are my favs for tingles. And your personal attention style is already great imo. So honestly your doing fine and I'll add in recommendations when I can. But lmao yeah F%CK EM!!😎

I've been desperately looking for a good alternative to YT for a while now. We can only dream

David Gibson

Ok, I thought about this for a while and I think I have something to say. Here goes. I remember the original days of asmr, it was all so new and experiential. A handful of artists experimenting with tactile noises and whispers. Those were good days, and almost nobody has heard of asmr. Then it started hitting the mainstream and a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon. ASMR has become a lot of things to a lot of people. I suspect that quite a lot of people who now watch ASMR, and probably quite a few who produce it have never had a single tingle. Maybe they just find it relaxing, maybe it's just a revenue stream. But what I see a lot of on YouTube, is what you would call, flirty asmr (I won't call it asmr porn because asmr porn is a whole other thing, and that's fine because at least it admits it (side note, there are some really talented porn actors who make traditional asmr and are really good at it, is it an acting thing or a sensual thing?)). Sorry now I'm waffling. My point is that if you search for asmr on YouTube these days the search results can be 90 percently flirty stuff. Maybe they aren't happy with that. I imagine that traditional asmr is a big revenue maker for YouTube - plenty of people I know have YouTube premium to avoid adds in asmr vids. Let's be clear, whispering into an ear, or licking something isn't porn. Is it flirtatious? It can be. If that's the way YouTube want to go, then fine. There's clearly a demand for all kinds of asmr. What would I like to see on Patreon? Anything that gives me goosebumps down the spine.

Alexander

I think that your Patreon is growing at a pace that makes you happy these days. You must already be making content that your viewers like. Just keep going. 💙

Michael

Spit painting / mouth sounds us always good

donttellmywife63

Sounds ridiculous to me! Hopefully it’ll just allow you to bring your best content to Patreon, though!

Philip

Some office based shenanigans would be nice.

Harv

They do seem to like keeping creators guessing, so it’s no wonder you and others are looking at alternative platforms. Maybe just keep YT for the “safe” videos to help build the following and use Patreon for the more out there, experimental stuff. You’re by far the best ASMRtist I’ve found and I’m sure many others would agree, so paying a little extra for content will never be an issue :) In terms of actual ASMR suggestions, I’ve always loved the idea of a tattoo parlour style role-play video. Start with a specific conversation about the tattoo you’re about to do, then it could literally be an hour of you just generally chatting about anything with the tattoo gun going in the background. Also, slightly left-field here, but I really loved the Timelapse videos you’ve occasionally put out (usually on insta stories I think) showing you assembling and disassembling the sets for your role-plays. I’ve no idea why I found them so relaxing but they were really good!

Nick

Part of the problem is ASMR, as a term, is used in multiple ways. There is ASMR porn, sexy ASMR videos (that are short of being porn), ASMR pretend girlfriend (and maybe boyfriend) videos, flirty ASMR videos, relaxing ASMR videos and tingly ASMR videos, and mixes of these, but most of these aren't really ASMR. I think it has to be in the relaxing or tingly category to be ASMR personally, but everyone's definition is different I guess, and it is a label that is applied to some only vaguely related things. I imagine real ASMR, like you make, is a massive source of revenue for YouTube because it is a huge reason to buy Premium. Your videos were probably the reason I first bought it, and I still have it (there are a lot of things I watch/listen to on YouTube to fall asleep now that I used to get from elsewhere so I use it for them now, and for the convenience of being able to watch your videos on there too). I can understand YouTube wanting to discourage advertiser-unfriendly sexy stuff. I guess they also want to discourage stuff that seems weird, which, let's face it, ASMR stuff often is - we often don't have a good idea why we like it/find it relaxing, and I think people often assume it is about sex if they don't know. The fact that it is easier to get more clicks on YouTube to start with if you have a pretty face probably feeds that, as most creators are good looking or made up heavily. I guess part of it is YouTube being scared of stuff that is hard to understand because they think it is about sex in some way too. Ultimately I think it just hastens the day that something else replaces YouTube TBH, and I'm glad you make things on here. That said, I suspect most or all of what I like that is ASMR (rather than stuff mislabeled as ASMR that isn't really, which I like at times, but which is different) is probably allowed, and it is stuff that is intended to be sexy rather than relaxing that will fall foul of the rule change.
