City Square [40x40] [4K] [jpg/webp] (Patreon)

Nothing can really prepare you for the sight of a night market in a bustling metropolis. The activity, the noises, the smells… Gallons of spices next to bizarre elixirs, savage weapons and fruits from faraway lands. The smell of exotic fish slowly rotting. The ruckus of the crowd negotiating for a better price and the shouts of merchants inviting you to their stand from afar. It is truly a unique experience. Watch out though, for in these types of crowds you never know who could be lurking!

Hidden Criminal: A thief is hiding amidst the crown, targeting wealthy citizens and adventurers likely heavy with magical objects and coinage. A silent assassin stabs her victim in the back unseen in the middle of the crowd with one swift strike of her poisoned blade. A known swindler is spotted from a distance. How will the party react? Will they choose to let the criminal escape or possibly endanger dozens of innocent lives attempting to catch them?

Magic Ritual (Ritual phased variants): A cult member drew a strange sigil on the market plaza the night before, half hidden in muck and mud. The next day, the cult leader activates the rune circle and starts their dark ritual in the middle of a very crowded market. A bright pillar of arcane purple and violet flame sprouts from the ground, incinerating the nearby bystanders in the blink of an eye. Panic ensues. The peaceful, mundane scene turns into carnage. You need to act fast, or soon the nearby buildings will catch fire too! And nothing seems to be able to put out these insatiable arcane flames!
