City Barracks [60x45] [6K] [jpg/webp] (Patreon)
Content
By day and by night, under sun and snow, the city’s militia always stood head-fast against crime and corruption, protecting its citizens to the peril of their own lives. The barracks, near the city center and neighboring the pauper districts, were always seen as the proud temple of justice. Knights in shining armor, their voice booming and echoing through the streets as they strike down the twisted and the crooked, saving the innocent from nefarious, abject acts of evil. On the surface and for most common citizens, this is still true. However, deep inside, the shining apple that is this city rots from within with corruption. The town’s council is likely aware of the situation, but such is the price to pay for order. Or is it?

Prison escape (Base variant): You have been arrested. OF COURSE you didn’t commit any crime. At least not in your eyes. Or in the eyes of (most) of your companions (paladin likely excluded). All is not lost however, as the guard holding your cells key looks to be a bit too negligent for his own good. Now might be the right time to break out. The cells are located deep within the barracks though. You will have to be cunning if you want to get away with both your life and your freedom!
A travesty of justice (Revolution variant): After years of neglect, a terrible revolution swiped the city’s government away, putting a new, self-appointed leader in charge of the central districts. The main difference between their predecessors is that this leader openly assumes their corruption. For some, it may be a redeeming quality. Ironic as it may be, they decided to use the old barracks as their new headquarters. Your employer, however, is not laughing.. They want their rowdy band of cut-throats out of here. And the quicker the better!
