The lords of Old Dunholm hold dominion over a handful of villages, acres of dark woodlands and rocky hills. Compared to the surrounding baronies, they are not particularly wealthy or influential. Their army is small, yet every general at the Court knows who the barons of Dunholm are. Their castle overlooks the royal road leading to the kingdom’s western border. Its barren, untamed soil was fertilized by countless battles amidst the swamps and dales. Not an decade passes without armies clashing near Dunholm. Not a day goes by without a messenger hastily riding through the country. Not a night settles without some strange beast prowling its foreboding woods, looking for a traveler to ambush. Yet not a soul transits through Old Dunholm unknown to the old baron. Perched on his lonesome rock, his impregnable dungeon oversees everything, over the hills, over the forests, over the horizon. His many spies do the rest. Never travel through Old Dunholm without paying homage to the baron. He is already waiting for you.

Surprise assault (Night variant): After months of siege, it seems like the old baron won’t surrender that easily. The invading general tasked you and your party to find a way into the fortress under the guise of night, slay the watchmen guarding the walls, and open all three gates up to the dungeon itself. You’d think doing so without raising an alarm will be nigh impossible. And it is. However, you did not get your current standing by taking on easy missions. Once again, it is time to prove you are worth your extravagant pay.

Accursed Noble (Haunted variant): Rumor has it that the barony of Dunholm remained in the same hands for over a century now. Its overseer doesn’t leave the comfort of his walls anymore. Some say he’s been long dead and that an illegitimate heir reigns in his stead in secret. Others suggest that the old baron forced some witch of the woods to brew him concoctions and filters granting him immortal life. A few villagers living in the shadow of the fated dungeon hint at something more macabre… some curious tale about the curse of undeath and how everyone in the castle would be seemingly infected.

Thank you! Making a realistic dungeon was on my list for some time. Nothing too big. Something fit for some country noble aha!

Would there be a version with the rooves off to see inside the structures?

It's something I would like to do but it's not an "addon" I can cook in a couple of hours. The dungeon itself would require several floors, like pretty much any building in the inner courtyard. It would need to be its own map later.

Could be worth considering treating the buildings in this map as their own collection of smaller maps. Together, with this one, they could be collected as one Dunholm group with this overworld map, an then the building maps inside of it, which could also be used independently for other stuff if they're their own files. Kind of like how you did the portal dimension group recently. Just a thought! I really like the style.

Honestly an idea worth considering! I think there are enough buildings there to be worth a full pack, and an individual smithy/barrack/chapel/etc. could still have some worth for GMs! I'll look into it!
