Diane Furlong

Good Morning Guys, I’m so ready for this 💕 What a perfect way to start the day by having Breakfast with Alex, Josh, Nick and Charlie (it’s 8AM here)

Regan Smith Burton

Hey guys, love your content. is there a way to let us download these as they come out so i can watch it on my apple tv?

Laura Ibarra

OMG what a pleasant surprise!!!! I’m so excited to hear your thoughts on this season!!!

Laura Ibarra

On another note - I can tell the difference on the camera! Meant to comment on that on the video where you mentioned it!

Berni Sweeney

Yay!! FYI Oreo Dairy Milk is Nick and Charlie cannon from the books so the book readers were super excited to see it! I've already watched the rest (twice!) and am looking forward to the rest of your reaction videos so I can geek out about it all!

Daniboy321

When it comes to parents not letting their children’s boyfriend/ girlfriend staying the night. I was out at that age and my sister had the same rules. She broke it once and was grounded for 3 months. Loved your reaction btw!!! ❤️

Laura Ibarra
>>114477257

If you have an Apple TV you can do screen mirroring off of your iPhone or iPad and you can watch the content on your TV that way. That’s what I do ☺️

Sarah G

Ha! Thanks for the excuse to watch this AGAIN:) Also, you two are so hilariously unhinged at moments--loved it!

Chris Foster

I enjoyed your discussion about parents and significant others. I have to say that I agreed with Josh! I think it's normal for parents be defensive about their children and a significant other. No sleepovers and doors open is something I would expect for everyone. At least I think.

Diane Furlong

Great reaction! I was kind of surprised by Charlie’s parents response especially after the Dad had been so supportive in Season 1. Looking forward to watching you unfold Season 2. No spoilers but everyone has a storyline this season.

Laura Ibarra

At the risk of over commenting 😝 I just finished your reaction and again, I love your discussions. Tori broke my heart at the end - it makes you wonder all the things she saw her brother go through. As for the parents thing - my parents would not have allowed a boyfriend or girlfriend in our rooms or having sleepovers. I agree with Josh that for the quite a lot of parents no sleepovers with boyfriends/girlfriends would be a rule regardless of sexuality AND perhaps more so for parents that assume their kids are straight because they immediately jump to pregnancy. Then there’s also the belief that sex outside of marriage is morally wrong. At least that has been my experience with my immediate/extended family as well as friends 🤷🏻‍♀️ NOW to Alex’s point, can a connection between that kind of thinking and homophobia (whether implicit or explicit) be made? I feel like there’s a pretty strong connection 🤪 again, from my experience

Jennifer Fell

Oh I loved EVERY SECOND of your reactions. Having watched all of season 2 I'm so thrilled we now have you on patreon and get to see these unedited reactions. I cant wait to see what you think as this all unfolds. 🥰

Raine in Chaos

Imogen's taste in boys is apparently identical to Charlie's 😂 She should ask him if he's ever had any straight crushes. Ben was dating a girl during the previous season, not that that tells us anything for sure. Stay safe, Imogen! We love our allies! I haven't actually watched any of season 2 yet (other than this video and the trailer) but I have read the comics. There are some really obvious differences between the show and the books although I think the overall themes are going to carry over. One thing I wanted to comment on from what I've watched so far: I'm going to disagree that Isaac seemed jealous of all the couples at the sleepover. I think it was more a look of relief that he doesn't have to deal with all that - although he seems happy that his friends are all happy. We know from the trailer that he's going to get a bit of a love interest this season, so I might be proven wrong, but that's the impression that I have so far. I'm excited to see where he goes because he's probably the one I relate to most. Other than maybe Imogen and always being attracted to queer boys (pro-tip Imogen: don't wait til your 30s to come out as transmasc 😅) (*Spoiler adjacent*: nothing given away directly) There was one other example of a theme that you picked up on like 3+ times in this episode. They laid groundwork all through season 1 and I didn't pick up on ANY of it until I read the comics and had it spelled out for me. Alice Oseman really does an A+ job of making things very clear in retrospect and that has carried over really well in the show.

Samantha Paines

I love you guys keep it real, it’s so refreshing and entertaining ❤️

Jen

I tend to agree with Josh as well on the sleepovers. As a mother of a 21-year-old son who is trans/pan and a 22-year-old bi daughter (oh, the wild conversations we've had in my house), I can say that neither of them were allowed to have their girl/boyfriend sleep over when they were 15. 17/18? Sure.

Hugh Campbell

The closing scene of this E1 gives me exactly the same vibes as that in E1 of It's A Sin, when all the main characters confess their ambitions. And our hearts fill with best wishes and concern for them.

Charlie

I will try to stay spoiler-free here, but as someone who has read the comics, I will say that you should give your initial reactions to Charlie’s parents some weight, as their relationship with Charlie (compared to Nick’s with his mom) will be featured more and more. Really looking forward to your reactions to this season. In my opinion, this season surpassed all my expectations, and I actually like it more than S1. The show is growing along with its characters, and it handles some really complex issues in a beautiful way

Sara Nissen

Such a sweet start to the season. I like the new teacher/supervisor even if he acts strict/ sometimes like a military guy, that makes it a bit funny. 😆 I had my first relationship when in my 20s, so my parents didn't have to worry about that for me as a teenager(mainly my dad, because my parents devorced, when I was 7 years old and me and my younger brother lived with him), but I can see why some parents regardless of their childrens sexuality might have that sleepover rule, but I also believe a good talk with your son/daughter at some point is a really good thing, so they can make a good decision/know what to do if/when etc, instead of a ban all together.

Raine in Chaos
>>114482231

I cannot WAIT to see more of Mr. Farouk. I might have to actually go get Netflix because his part on the Paris trip was my literal favorite thing in that book 😅

k8ie

lmao not you guys thinking they were celebrating their two day anniversary lmao charlie got him the chocolate for their two month anniversary. the first scene was in april right after season 1 finale but after the montage im thinking it's end of may/early june since the paris trip is at the end of june and early july.

Sam

Nellie is such an important part of the recap!! Heartstoppers is a story about her two favorite people! There is a mini comic from Nellie's point of view and it's the cutest thing in the entire world!

steve johnson

I think I'd prefer to control the narrative about coming out,, when I was in the closet I was sooo scared about being found out and having no control of what happened next. Think you guys are great, only joined your Patreon recently :)

Jacqueline Hahn

I'm with Josh on Charlie's parents' "no hanky-panky" thing. I genuinely cannot see them letting a girl stay over either. Or a boy with Tori. My dad was EXACTLY the same (thankfully he worked on the rigs when I was in my teens, and mum let me get away with murder when he wasn't home😉). I love the fact that Nick is now part of this expanding LGBTQ+ friends group, and that they're all super supportive of each other. Also, I'm thinking it must be really difficult for Tao who is, to all intents & purposes, straight, but also knows that Elle is trans. It's not clear if he and his mum have only ever known Elle as Elle, or if they knew her before she came out. That must put extra pressure on that whole situation, as well as his concern about things just going Pete Tong and ruining their friendship. I love that Isaac has already had more dialogue in this episode than in pretty much all of series 1.

Frances

I also binged it … and I can’t even think about this season without getting teary eyed ♥️ my heart is so full right now. And I’m gonna watch it again and again until season 3 comes out 🙈 My favorite episodes were 1,4,6 and especially 8! I’m literally still obsessed!

Mads

part of me thinks Nick would love to get caught and be done with it too. Charlie is 100% hoping he can help Nick and can "rewrite" the narrative of coming out, Charlie got bullied, so he wants Nicks coming out to be celebratory which is way too much pressure, he already helped him so much in season 1, Nick has got to do some leg work and Charlie shouldn't expect it to be perfect sleepovers I think are a bit much, none of my friends were allowed them with their bf/gf but that doesn't stop sex, you can have sex at 5pm, so I don't see how that matters. BENNN is going to drive you nuts, that's all I'm saying.

pawntksqueen

The “door open/no hanky panky” thing was in my household growing up. I wasn’t even allowed to have anyone in the house unless my parents were home. Scene literally made me cackle (even in the book) because it was so relatable. I’ve always seen it more as a “you’re my kid and I need you to still be a kid”, even knowing that outside of their home they didn’t have much say so.

Mads

Also I love you two so much, but my god if you talk over lines, just go back and rewatch it, you get so confused when you miss shit LOL.

Mads
>>114482189

I also loved 2 more, it got more real. and when I think back to season 1, every episode just has like one major moment or plot, this season is jam packeddd

Mads
>>114481609

100% when you get the one theme in this show in later episodes, all of season 1 was SHOWING you the proof and everyone (besides comic readers) missed it.

Susan

I watched season 2 by myself. Watching it again with you makes me feel like I am watching with friends!

Hannah Howden

So excited for the rest of the season!! There’s so much going on here but tbh I agree 100% with Alex on his reaction to Charlie’s parents, it gives that “we’re totally fine with you being gay but we don’t need to hear about it and definitely don’t want to see you with someone” gaslighting crap. I was told by my parents that it was inappropriate to not act like you’re “just friends” with any partner around other people and not to make a spectical of myself. That scene gave me the same vibe. It is totally reasonable for parents not to let their kids high school partner sleep over, but you get the feeling of an undercurrent that that’s not all it’s about here. Charlie doesn’t need any more homophobic hate in his life 😭 I just constantly want to give that kid the biggest hug ❤️‍🩹

Crystal Pritchard

Charlie’s parents telling him that Nick can’t sleep over now that they are dating and that the door has to stay open seems completely reasonable to me, I didn’t interpret it as homophobic at all. They didn’t say that Nick can’t come over, but set the boundary that they don’t want them having sex, which seems like a completely reasonable expectation for your 15 year old son. If Charlie was older, or had been allowed to have girls stay over if/when his parents thought he was straight, that would be different but we’ve been given no indication that they haven’t always known he was gay and again, he’s a 15 year old boy. My parents were incredibly concerned about me having sex at that age, not about whether it was a boy or a girl, but because there’s a lot of emotions with that type of relationship, especially for the first time, and at 15 that’s a lot for a kid to process.

Dani

The last scene of this episode gives me major chills. Charlie thinks he can control how this experience plays out for Nick and Nicks just like la la la twirling his hair walking down the street but the tears in Tori’s eyes and the music…full body chills honestly

Samm Daugherty

I love your reaction videos!!! Its almost as enjoyable as watching Heartstopper initially. All the characters go on such a journey this season. I cant wait for all the reaction videos. Your responses to Charlies parents here is fascinating. I did not interrupt it as homophobic but I guess I can see that. Though in Midwest of US, my parents were also very strict like this though less so with my brothers than I. But I do agree it is not a productive way to deal w kid’s exploring their sexuality

Susanne
>>114494920

Agreed! The thing about that scene is that the parents obviously havent even thought about the fact that there could be anything but friendship between them because Nick presents as a very hetero male, according to all stereotypes.

David Watt

52 mins? Oooooh I can’t wait to watch this!!!

Samm Daugherty
>>114500598

Yes, I think they really showed hints at Tori’s character and her protectiveness over Charlie this season. I really need to read Solitare by Alice

Sunil

I’m not sure about the being outed but it’s certainly easier once you’re out to a few people to let the gossip spread even though you insist people should keep it secret.

Sunil
>>114494920

I agree. A lot of people think Charlie’s parents are unreasonable in this series but at the end of the day Charlie is 15, in his first relationship (Ben doesn’t count) and clearly prioritising it over his own well-being. It makes sense for his parents to try to keep things in proportion and to protect him. Especially given how bad Charlie has had it over the last few years - Tori must have told them he had suicidal ideation.

Chris Metzger

I watched the first four episodes last night, then the last four this morning. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that at some point, I was openly sobbing. In terms of outing yourself vs. being outed, someone outed me to my brothers. They sat me down and told me that they knew, and they still loved me. I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to do it on my own, so in a weird way, tough I still see this woman as a C.U.Next.Tuesday, I'm kinda grateful. With friends, I came out to them, and it was fine. No issues at all. Also, Imogen needs a good shaking!

Crystal Pritchard
>>114494920

I’ll admit I forgot about the part where Charlie’s mom talks about Nick presenting straight based on stereotypes, but more than anything that dialogue annoyed me because it felt so clunky. I’m only on episode 2 so maybe it gets better but I feel like this season everything feels so forced. I wish it was more subtle, it would feel less awkward. I don’t want to say anything specific to avoid spoilers but Nick and Charlie’s interaction with a character in episode 2 felt almost like comically villainous. It’s like they wanted to be sure that we know this character is bad so we’re not going to give him any subtlety and have him just act like a one dimensional bad guy to the point where his lines feel like something no one would actually say. Maybe it’s just me though.

Charlie
>>114482189

It really is! It’s hard to believe they accomplished so much with all the various plot points in such a short amount of episodes

Florence

Seen a couple of reactions and people seem to go straight to assuming Imogen is stupid, whereas my immediate response was that she knew but she felt like she had to wait for Nick to say it. When she's showing him the picture of her puppy and tells him she wants to hear if he's got any romantic news there's an awkward silence and then when it's clear Nick isn't going to fill it she goes back to the dog. I definitely take that as her being kind not dumb.

L Archibald

I understand where the parents are coming from about keeping the door open, but I guess I was not that way as a parent. I was more concerned about them having safe sex than where they were having it. I knew I could not be hypocritical as I knew I was having sex and drinking alcohol as a 16 year old, so it would be foolish of me to think that my children would not. I preferred they be in a safe environment and being safe.

Pip

The usual considered and insightful reactions but boys, a technical point; please turn on the subtitles because sometimes you're talking over the actors and missing the dialogue and then not really reacting to the scene as it was spoken, plus if you talk over it I don't hear the dialogue either, hence the request for subtitles.

Steve Marshall

Great great great, so happy to hear your reaction. I have read all the comics and associated books and watched the whole season yesterday (of course), and will re-watch it over the next few weeks. No spoilers, but there is so much more content in this season that is not in the books, which is fabulous, and which allows the main story points to be met, even if their context slightly changes from the comics. The ideas are the same. Which just brings me to the final scene with Dad and Mum. When I read the comic it was very clear to me that Dad's comments about 'hanky panky' were meant as a foil to mum's reaction. He seems to be the one who can read the room, and tried to wind it all back a notch. Anyway, sooo looking forward to your future reactions. ❤️

Cleo
>>114479683

I agree with both Alex and Josh, which sounds odd. But it could be either an equal approach or an excuse for homophobic parents to come down harder on queer kids. Really depends on the precise situation.

IRONDOG98

I think Imogen is just the latest victim to Ben's inability to understand the purpose of relationships or the concdpt of caring for another ,maybe. I'm glad Nick has introduced her to his new friend group. Great reaction! cant wait for the other episodes, thanks!

Agustina Romero

OMG I laughed so much hahaha sooo looking forward to your future reactions ❤️

Joseph Carriker

While it may seem like it's "equal" that both your straight and queer kids have the same rule, in practice that ignores the fact that such relationships aren't equal in society. Straight kids can be affectionate in public and among their peers, while it is frequently not safe for queer kids to be. For many queer kids, the (sometimes dubious) safety of the home is one of the few places where their privacy is solid, and when it comes to queer kids, privacy is often safety. Denying your kids the sanctuary of their home to express their affections is not the same thing as denying it to your straight kids. And honestly - an over-all, across-the-board ban of Nick from any and all sleepovers? I mean, did they assume "hanky panky" was going on while their friends were all asleep in the same room? Yikes.

David Gadd

As always, you are both astute. And so compassionate for these characters. A few thoughts: * Imogen: I don't think the choice of the early phrase "I'm an ally" written for Imogen was an accident. She keeps falling in love with gay men, and her heart is kind and open. She is/will be a strong and loving ally to her many future gay friends, because she is already attuned. That IS gaydar. She just hasn't identified it yet. * Charlie's parents: Don't forget that Charlie's Dad kindly comforted him when Charlie left the party (or the movie theatre?) in Season 1. And the "no hanky-panky before marriage" line is in the comic, and I think it was written as a fundamental acceptance of Charlie's identity by the father in an awkward "Dad" kind of way. But the quality of harshness from the parents is a whole other layer going on, which your intuition/warning siren picked up on--and I think led to your discussion/disagreement. * Tao: Tao has particularly stormy emotions. His deflections are reflecting his struggle to tamp down that storm and keep it controlled. But it's not serving him. * Charlie: Charlie seems destined to be the strongest of the group, the most courageous. But he's also got so much to battle through, to get to his courage. * Ben: Maybe Nick's shadow, in a way? So Nick needs to learn from Ben's fear, and take a better path.

Graham & Ruth May
>>114541927

Agree with everything you say here. I think fathers or the absence of them is very sensitively considered and interesting in Heartstopper.

Graham & Ruth May

Thanks for a great first episode reaction, guys. I laughed a LOT.😂 But the reason I love your reactions so much is the mix of thought-provoking points, entertaining discussions, relevant and irreverent detours into your own personal experiences and your friendship. I first started watching your reactions to Heartstopper season 1 on YouTube and that brought me to your Patreon. Seems ages ago now! I agree that Charlie is assuming too much responsibility for protecting Nick from the kind of experience he had when he was outed. It will create unsustainable pressure on him to make things ‘perfect’, as he tells Tori he’s going to make sure of. It’s no spoiler to say that it’s going to be an emotional season. 🥹🫣

Florence H - France

OMG Missed your Heartstopper react so much ! Still so smart and funny. Love you.

Rosie Carlisle

Bloody love this! "Is she eating a whole garlic?" was a highlight.

indigo

loved your reactions too Imogen and her Crush. the same rule applied in my house as teen door open no sleep overs with partners just parents being protective I think.

Mark Walker

I understand the "no sleepovers" part, but then dad takes it too far with "No Hanky-Panky before marriage." That is just completely divorced from any modern consenting adult's (straight, gay, bi, pan, queer, whatever) romantic-sexual relationship reality.

LM-Entertainment Australia
>>114541560

very good explanation - sound reasoning. you've hit the nail on the head with the "safety" of being at home, especially if parents are already aware of their children/s sexuality.

LM-Entertainment Australia

awesome reaction - as all of your reactions always are. i just thought i'd add my 2 cents about the charlie giving so much room to nick regarding coming out. as we saw at the end of the episode.. i think it's more to do with charlies own experience of being outed and how horrible it was for him (we remember him having to sit in the art room for lunch because he was getting bullied). i think charlie wants to avoid that happening to nick as much as possible, even though it may seem unrealistic. we see at the end that charlie wants everything to be perfect for nick (despite it not being in his control) and he has feels he can provide him with that security.

Richard Hurst

Love you guys love your reactions and I've just joined here

Lauren Mac

OMG, I was *so* excited to see your reactions to Imogen saying her crush was Ben and y'all did not disappoint! The best!! As for Elle and Tao, I had a major crush on my guy best friend in high school and it was not reciprocated for for about two years. He was reluctant to make the change from friends to boyfriend/girlfriend because he didn't want to lose the friendship, obviously a common worry for people in that situation. But the thing IS -- the simple fact of one or both of you having romantic feelings about the other changes the dynamic. It has to. If Tao decided not to make it work with Elle and got a girlfriend, do you think his relationship with Elle would stay the same? No. There are feelings involved already. So just make the leap and go for it! (I realize I'm in the minority but I convinced my friend to make the leap and we've been together for almost 26 years now.)

JustinThyme

So glad this show is back and equally glad for your reactions! A great mix of discussions about the show topics and lots of laughter thrown in. I have to say there is one thing I completely disagree with though: Hawaiian pizza is the best!

Mo64

As far as I’m concerned they should lock Ben, Harry, David, Cynthia Nixon(Charlie’s mom) and Darcy’s mom in a room and let them eat each other. Alice Oseman sure knows how to write some hateful characters.

Samuel Fernandez

I have to watch the whole thing, u guys are lovely

Caitlin Douglass

Just in case it's been missed the chocolate bar was to celebrate 2 months together not 2 days.

Makayla Hall

Fun facts that no one asked for. The beginning montage was all improvised and wasn't scripted. There are a bunch of improvised scenes. Most of the ones where they arnt saying things and kinda just vibing like I believe the dancing in Charlie's living room was improvised. stuff that's not a major part was improvised. Most of the montages where as well throughout the season. Kit saying "that was uncalled for" was his genuine reaction. Euros the director and Joe (Charlie) were the only ones who knew about it so when Joe did that it was kinda like a "wtf" moment and you can tell bc his voice changes from his in character normal Nick to a bit more genuine and not in character. It makes it a lot more genuine. There where alot of bloopers that actually made it into the show and Joe's said in an interview that one of them bc they where filming late it took like hours to film and then eventually just put in a take that was close but not quite how it was intended to be played. Also DO NOT DIS PINAPPLE ON PIZZA it's amazing. Its really common in my state it's the perfect mix of sweet and savory it's AMAZING.

Clara Eyding

as a 16 year old queer kid I think I agree with what you said about wanting to be caught. At least where I live people are quite accepting but coming out still feels daunting.

Ann-Marie Still

As a newly out, proper old bisexual and a mother to 3 boys 17- 24 years old, I can honestly say that I would rather they were having safe sex, in a safe place and if that was their bedroom then so be it. The one boundary I put in place was that if I ever found that they had taken advantage of, or abused anyone, I would shop them myself. On another note, coming out to them was the hardest. But also the most beautiful. Hugs and acceptance all round.

b
>>114487141

yes, and i believe his mom says something like 'is the new school okay' when elle comes over, which says she knew elle was going from a boys' to girls' school

Gavin Best
>>114650257

Thankfully, in the graphic novels, Charlie’s mom gets a bit of a reprieve… when it is later revealed why she reacts the way she does. She’s terrified of being an incompetent mother… and she is actually her own worst critic. Putting herself down seems to be something that Charlie has also inherited.

C

Love your reactions! Regarding Issac reading: I don't know if it was a conscious choice for his character but among autistics, there is a thing called "parallel play" where you spend time together without interacting much, just everyone doing their own thing while enjoying each other's company. It doesn't mean the other people aren't interesting enough but that actively following conversations (making eye contact, responding) and being perceived can be a lot for us. So having a book there that provides safety can make it possible for us to access group settings in the first place 📚🤗 All the love from Germany 🌈

Matthew Binczek

You guys keep talking about Charlie wearing a “carpet” or “rug” at the door. For any UK people…do you all not have blankets? He wraps a blanket around himself when he’s cold like everyone else I know lol. I’m confused why you’re confused 💜

Gina Lipkin

Lots of improvising was requested from the cast in season 2, so a little challenging for some, I love the warm sunny lighting used on the lovers, so pleased they have each other, it's a demanding world to navigate xx

Gina Lipkin

Love your style Diane, living well, laughing often, loving much and breakfast with the Heartstopper crew plus Alex and Josh, go girl xX

Christopher Shaw

Watching you guys interact is so great. The true, pure friendship the two of you have is so heart-warming. Have you guys considered doing a special video that includes your partners?

karolina tersa

oh, the turtle gesture - it's the same in polish sign. sweetest sign of all <3

Beth Yoshida

Finally watching your uncut reactions (I already saw the others on Youtube). I have 4 children- 2 are teenagers, one is queer and the other is... well, he says he's straight. My rules are the same- if its someone your dating, door stays open. I don't care if they make out or whatever and I'm definitely not homophobic as I am myself queer. Most parents I know who have queer kids have the exact same rules for them as they do for their straight children.

Judith
>>130391926

May i ask why you do that? I dont want to be rude and i am also not a parent, but i never understood that rule about an open door! Of course, you have to consider your childrens age and stuff, but isnt their room one of their safe spaces? I mean kids experiment and isnt the safe space of their home better than anywhere else? They of course have to be careful and considerate towards their partner and be safe in everything they do but that never changes no matter their age! In the series, they are 15 and 16. Isnt it okay and normal if they want to be more intimate?

NovaX

I too was thinking along the same lines that Charlie's dad was right for his rules, mostly because I know Charlie's dad IS supportive and would absolutely say the same thing to a straight kid. That being said, your critique on the practice itself actually has me thinking otherwise because you're right. Regardless of sexuality, it's teaching certain aspects of being a human being as wrong. It's a very Puritan way of thinking. The only thing to really prevent teens from having sex before they're ready and to prevent things like pregnancy and/or STDs is proper education. Otherwise, we're teaching them to feel shame for something that is completely normal. I was also thinking about the greater effect that would have on queer individuals. Like...with straight teens, you can have your same-sex friends stay over no issue and have that bonding and social development, but with queer teens...that would be less possible by these standards. Having the same rules for straight kids and queer kids is equal...but it's not equitable. Anyway, just some thoughts based off your commentary, haha. I really like the way that was explained in your video, a lot of really great points.
