Hey, Rob & Trin. I have a TON of fun facts about this movie. I hope you’ll take the time to read this comment. Sorry that it’s so long, but I was so excited to finally share this with you 1.) First, as you might have guessed there were some changes made to the original script. I'll start by saying that the first Black Panther movie was a father-son story told from the son's point of view. This sequel was originally meant to be a father-son story as well, but this time it would've been told from the father's perspective. With that said, T'Challa's son Toussaint would've had a more prominent role. This is where it gets awkward. In the original plot, T'Challa returned only to find out that Nakia had moved on and married a Haitian man. So he would have to struggle with co-parenting. Three years later, T'Challa celebrates his son's eighth birthday. Next thing we know, Namor surfaces into the upper world and T'Challa had to go save the world once again. (By the way, Nakia was trying to call Shuri over and over to explain why she didn't attend T'Challa's funeral. She wanted to introduce Shuri to her nephew, but she was mad at her for not attending and decided to ghost her instead. Ramonda was about to tell her daughter about Toussaint at the campfire when Namor appeared.) Valentina's role was heavily reduced as well. She would have been a secondary antagonist. This would've led to a three way rivalry between Wakanda, the States, and Talokan respectively led by T'Challa, Valentina, and Namor. Co-writer and director Ryan Coogler goes further into detail in the movie's official podcast. Here’s the link if you'd like to listen: https://open.spotify.com/show/25H3VGTKQUo1ImawOBVbvD?si=n3TRVNKnTv-Dls-fadXiGA 2.) In the comics, Namor was also a member of the first incarnation of the illuminati - the group of heroes that we met in Multiverse of Madness. They decided to not include him in the Illuminati that we met in Multiverse of Madness as they had planned to put him in this movie instead. Iron Man, Namor, and Doctor Strange were respectively replaced by Captain Carter, Captain Marvel (Carol's friend Maria Rambeau), and Baron Karl Mordo. 3.) Next, I wanna acknowledge W’Kabi’s absence. Daniel Kaluuya said he wasn't able to reprise his role due to scheduling conflicts. He was busy working on Jordan Peele's movie Nope. Director Ryan Coogler confirmed that W'Kabi is currently banished to the outskirts of Wakanda. In the Latin Spanish dub, Ramonda said he's in prison. However, there is some concept art of what he would've worn if he did appear. 4.) About a year and a half ago, South African comedian Trevor Noah departed from the Daily Show. His co-star Danai Gurira was one of the last people he interviewed before he stepped down. However, he reprised his role as the voice of the Wakandan A.l. Griot. He also had more lines this time around. 5.) A few days after the movie premiered, M'Baku's actor Winston Duke said this on Twitter: "The intention for M'Baku in this film is to serve as the vent for a pressure cooker & that's what influenced this improvisational gem, amongst others." That gem was calling Okoye a bald-headed demon. I cracked up so hard in the theater I went to see this movie at. This was easily the funniest moment in the entire film. Also, notice that he's munching on a carrot? He did say the Jabari tribe are vegetarians. However, they're actually pescatarians because they have fishers. One of them rescued T'Challa in the first installment. In all seriousness though, M'Baku stood out for me the most. He in particular had some major character development in my opinion. Before he took that massive blow from Namor, he wasn't looking before leaping. If it weren't for that chest plate he was wearing, that push would ve killed him. Then after Ramonda died, he had a lot to consider. Those traits and experiences are what will help him become the proper king that Wakanda needs going forward. He also realized that it was time that he and his warriors upgraded their armor. They started wearing chest plates made out of vibranium. 6.) One particular thing that I like about this movie was that we got not one but TWO indigenous actresses from Guatemala. María Mercedes Coroy (Namor's mom) and Doña María Telón (the elder Nakia spoke to) are both from Santa María de Jesús in the Sacatepéquez Department. My parents are from Quetzaltenango. My mom knows both actresses from a 2015 movie they did together called Ixcanul (ish-ka-nool). That word is from a Mayan dialect called kaq'chikel which is native to Sacatepéquez. In English, the word ixcanul translates to volcano. 7.) The film's score includes edited versions for some of the soundtrack's songs, but they didn't add the film's version of Alone by Burna Boy which includes an excerpt of Stormy's Interlude at the start of the song. In the soundtrack, both songs are separate. Senegalese musician Baaba Maal who provided vocals for some of the background music in Black Panther 1 and 2 also made a cameo singing at T'Challa's funeral. That reminds me: there's a three-part documentary series called Voices Rising on Disney Plus. We get to see how the score and the soundtrack for this film were put together. 8.) Josué Maychi, the actor who portrayed the shaman in the Zama flashback, was also brought in as a dialect coach for the cast. He taught them Yucatec Mayan. 9.) The next fact is a big one, but have you ever heard of two film techniques called dry-for-wet and wet-for-wet? Those are two different ways of filming underwater scenes. Dry-for-wet is basically when the actors pretend they're underwater when they're actually filming on dry land. Wet-for-wet, on the other hand, is when they actually have to film underwater. Stunt coordinator Chris Denison is the reason I bring this up. He was the swimming instructor for the cast. He taught them how to free dive. Out of the entire cast, Mabel Cadena, the actress who portrayed Namora, was able to hold her breath the longest with a record of six minutes and thirty seconds. Chris believes that she would've gotten to ten minutes if he had another week to coach her. If Mabel returns to portray Namora in the future, that can still likely happen. 10.) Tenoch Huerta got to reprise his role as Namor for the Latin Spanish dub. He’s one of the few actors to reprise their MCU role in their native language. Aside from Tenoch, we also have Pom Klementieff voicing Mantis in Canadian French and Daniel Brühl voicing Helmut Zemo in German. 11.) And finally, Riri may not have been allowed to take her suit, but that doesn't mean we've seen the last of both of them. Her superhero codename is Ironheart. That's also the name of her upcoming Disney Plus show. Production has been affected by the strikes and some reshoots, but they have it slated for September of next year. Dominique Thorne originally auditioned for the role of Shuri in Black Panther 2018. She even did a screen test with Chadwick. So when they wanted to incorporate Riri into the film, Dominique was their first and only choice. Furthermore, around the time they were wrapping up Wakanda Forever and before Dominque started working on her Ironheart series, she got a FaceTime call from Robert Downey Jr himself. He gave her his firm belief that Riri should be able to shine on her own terms and not be a direct copy of Iron Man.

Namor was just painting his fight with shuri. It’s him and the black panther on the wall. he likes to record history that way

YaYa

yay!!! was looking forward to this all week!!! so excited to see what you think of this gorgeous movie

Love this movie and just in case it wasn't obvious M'baku is the King now while Shuri is the black panther only.

Definitely one of the stronger Phase 4 entries - my one complaint being that some of the sequences feel a little drawn out - but there is still so much to love about this movie. The handling of Chadwick Boseman's passing was beautifully done, the fact that events in the first film (Kilmonger burning the herb) directly impacted the plot of this one is brilliant writing and of course the production design, visuals and music. My favorite bit: the iconic punchy brass of the Black Panther theme - which we don't hear until Shuri first dons her Black Panther suit in the final act - is now mixed with synthesizer to represent Shuri's use of technology to synthesize the heart-shaped herb, thus creating a new Black Panter.

This is one of my favorite MCU movies ever. And it's a stronger contender for my favorite out of the two Black Panther movies, surprisingly. This was just SO beautiful and powerful and had an amazing adversary in Namor and the Talokan people. Shuri has been through so much in such a short amount of time, it's actually devastating. I loved what this movie did with her and how it allowed both her character and actress Letitia Wright to grow, To cler up some misunderstandings, Namor's end conversation was intentionally up to interpretation I think. It's possible he's biding his time to attack Wakanda and the world again, or he's telling the truth and genuinely wants to keep Wakanda as an ally. But he wasn't drawing him defeating the Black Panther, just drawing their fight as a way to record history. Personally I even interpreted it as a sign that he respected her as a worthy opponent. Also, M'Baku was not challenging to become Black Panther. He was challenging for the role of King. Which he was showing he'd be well suited for all movie. The King and the role of Black Panther have often been the same person, but they don't have to be. T'Challa was both, but his father King T'Chaka gave up the role of Black Panther to T'Challa while he remained King. Now M'Baku will be King while Shuri carried the Black Panther mantle. Shuri has made some progress on her grief, but I think she's still too angry and emotionally unavailable to be Queen as well right now. Namor and his people are so fascinating to me. I loved every second of him on screen as well, his intensity was amazing. His actor, Tenoch Huerta, is amazing. What I love is how the MCU took Namor, an OG Marvel Comics characters and completely changed the origins and backstory but made it make sense for the world of the MCU and still be compelling. In the comics Namor is Namor the Submariner and his people are basically the Atlanteans. You compared him to DC's Aquaman and Namor was quite literally Marvel Comic's version of Aquaman, although Namor came 2 years before Aquaman. In the comics as well Namor's name came from spelling Roman backwards, but the MCU making the origins a cursed name from Spanish and blending him and his people with actual Mayan culture and religion is so cool to me! Especially considering the level of relatability this creates between Namor and Shuri. Loved loved this movie and I cry everytime I watch it because I think they honored Chadwick Boseman beautifully. A lot of Marvel fans were actually made going into this movie and even after because they believed that the MCU should've simply recasted T'Challa's actor and continued on with the story, but Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa meant to much to so many people and he was FRIENDS with the people behind these movies, so I don't see how recasting him or even using CGI to put him in some scenes wou;d've been even considered as a respectful choice by the people who loved him. Introducing his son T'Challa was genius because it allows room for a new actor to come in the future as T'Challa and take up the mantle, furthering stories from the comics.

Wow the coincidence of “Michonne” going to Alexandria, Virginia is insane I almost wonder if it was intentional. I heavily disliked the main antagonist the fish man ( I can’t remember his name) I was honestly hoping she would take him out

ShelleyAnn

Oh look another film that'll make me cry 😭 will save this one for the weekend x

Michael

You gunna be doing Logan? First Class? Or is X-Men done?

Keyuana Gray

If you remember Ross' exwife is also the one who told Yelena (black widows sister) that Hawkeye killed Natalie

o.o

namor in the comics is kind of a dick, less mischievous than Loki, but he can be an ally or an enemy. pretty unpredictable, but interesting all around. This actor did a good job of making us feel for him while hating him. I hope he is in future projects.

I really enjoyed this movie, my only issue really is Namor. In the comics I find him really interesting, he can be a hero or a villain or anything in between depending on what's going on and his reasons for being a villain is usually understandable. But what makes him compelling when he is the hero is that he is still so proud and cold, he is a really unlikable guy and to me that's a part of his appeal. In this movie they made him too charming.

One of the most missed parts is that we knew Namor was hiding based on half a second line in End Game when they mentioned that there was an earthquake underwater and Black Widow shrugs it off saying it wasn't that important.

Gabriel

I think Namor’s motivation are in between those. Yes he truly want to be an ally with Wakanda, but the way he was talking about, suggest that it was to gain advantage out of it. That Wakanda would come ask for their help, meaning they would owe Talokan , thus giving Namor the advantage in the futur

ruinfox

Black Widow shrugs it off? she was the only one concerned about it in that scene, everyone else thought she was over-reacting 😅
