I won't remember much about this movie since I only saw it at middle school 😅 more than 20 years ago, but I know I enjoyed it at least and who the main character is 😅💜

William

"I can do that in my...pants." Dude, I about fell over. LOL! 😂

Also, rob you touched about the Image of back in the day. One of the main themes is identity. No one knows anyone’s name in the movie, or care to remember. All those men in suites are interchangeable skins, all that really mattered is how you looked and the facade of who you are. Same thing with some of the outlandish things Patrick said. Maybe it was in his head, or maybe people just don’t care to really listen to what he had to say.

This was clearly before Christian Bale mastered an American accent...when he was describing his morning routine, it felt like an AI TikTok video...

Got an 8:30 rez at Dorcia

All the Paul Allen memes from this film are incredible

The thing is, Patrick Bateman absolutely killed some people, probably not as many as 20 or 40. The message is more that his surroundings always get the names mixed up because wall street guys are all so samey. So his alibi is that no one recognices him or Paul Allen or any other guy and no one really listens to him so he can do whatever he wants, nothing matters. Obv a big satirical critique of society.

I haven't watched the reaction yet, so you may have caught this but "Patrick Bateman" was the name that Dexter used to purchase horse tranquilizer and that he had to delete from the database in one of the first episodes that you watched.

Ryan T

lol nvm, you caught it right away.

I remember that a reviewer once said that the satire starts becoming repetitive about halfway through. Which I 1000% agree with.... it starts off sharp, then gets a little stale. Honestly, it loses me at stomping the dog. I don't get the weird fascination some guys have with characters like Bateman and Tyler Durden. But Dafoe is fantastic as the detective. I do love that the psycho goes on to be a troubled superhero... and the cop goes on to be a troubled super villain. I do think that Patrick is killing... but the interchangeable-ness of their world, and never really being seen or standing out... leads to an increasingly grandiose perception of the things that he does. And Patrick ultimately can't be satisfied or be realized by releasing his urges, or by confessing. All that gilded effort is nothing but madness.
