If the entire series is a house, Season 1 is barely the doormat on the porch.. One of the two authors of this series started out as George R R Martin's personal assistant. There is a great lineage of talent there..

In case you missed it, Uncle Mateo threw Diogo out the ship 'cause he knew when he threw the rocks at the Martians, they'd retaliate and blow up his ship. You see the rocks hit the Martian ship and then the ship fires a missile and you see the reflection in Diogo's helmet of his uncle's ship explode. Also, the uncle said to Diogo that he dropped him in the lanes and someone would come by and pick him up. Obviously, nothing's guaranteed, but Mateo seemed pretty confident or he thought that Diogo has a chance now when he would've definitely died if he stayed on the ship.

Uncle Matteo popping his mask to get debris out of his helmet isn't that weird. Contrary to what we have been shown in Sci-fi for most of our lives, vacuum isn't instant death. He can let out the oxygen in his suit for a probably a minute or a little more, and then reseal it and let his his O2 pack refill it. I think that is why he exhaled as he open the suit so as to not damage his lungs with the pressure differential. Also, it is just a show, it is "hard science" fiction for the most part but take a grain of salt with it too as it also follows the "rule of cool" for a lot of stuff. He'll just have to chill in the airlock for a bit when he gets back in the ship most likely so he won't get like the zero G version of the bends. This show takes a lot of patience, as someone already said, this the foundation to a very nice house. There are a lot of pay offs from even early in season 1 all the way through the later seasons.

Also, they hoped Uncle Mateo would come back for Diogo but they didn't see the last thing that the Martian customs ship did before the rocks shredded them was pop off a missle that would destroy their attacker. So good luck to Diogo. He should have stayed away from te aqua and he could still be sleazing around Ceres running scams.

Yeah, there’s a fully fleshed out narrative here, told over the course of many novels and novellas. Sufficed to say, you haven’t even scratched the surface yet. Enjoy the ride. 😎

You can survive in the vacuum of space for a little while, but there will be severe consequences the longer you are doing so..Uncle Matteo only exposed himself for a few seconds, and because he exhaled, he probably actually would survive that IRL.. The show tries to be as scientifically accurate as one can be, aside from the few rules of cool that they throw in to keep it science fiction..For example: space ship engines, those graffiti sprayers, and 'magical' healing tech..
