Gone Girl 2014 FULL REACTION

The only David Fincher film I ever deeply disliked. Overwrought, and ridiculous ending.

Adam Belfort

To me, this is scarier than a horror movie. First time I’ve seen this movie, I was scared to date for like a month 😂

Octavia

It's sticking very closely to the book though... pretty sure the movie tightened up the story but stuck to the majority and ending. Which makes sense since Gillian Flynn wrote the novel & screenplay.

Jan T

Yeah, I’m aware of the book, which I also regard as deeply problematic. I’m not a fan of either book or film. I only saw the film because I hoped Fincher would improve on some of the book’s flaws. No such luck, unfortunately.

Octavia

I get it... I just meant that with Gillian Flynn adapting her own novel... not much chance of it getting out of its lane. I still like it more than several of the other choices this month. But it's no The Menu. (For Ben Affleck... I'd rather they watch The Accountant or Argo.)

I seen a documentary about this on Netflix kinda tha same different story tho

The ending always leaves people feeling uneasy, but it does make you analyze your actions and the nature of your relationships. I think the majority of people, including myself, would have wanted Nick to get out of the marriage and Amy jailed for murder and punished for all the crimes she committed throughout her life. Sadly, it doesn’t always turn out like that in real life. Overall, I did like this ending.

James

The pacing of the dialogue is definitely very unique it’s so fast paced but it flows well. Also the biggest thing I learned from this movie is that Velveeta isn’t a cheese. I got Dexter and Debra vibes from nicks sibling relationship. He was definitely off like some sort of personality disorder or something. The guy is an absolute piece of shit, cheating on his wife with a teenager, while actively verbally and physically abusing her I mean come on bro that’s vile. I don’t blame her really, yes she’s framing him but he’s still a compulsive liar. It’s very Johnny depp VS amber heard type situation.

MarySoul

Who would think so much crazy would live inside the angelic and unassuming face of Jane. Well done Rosamund Pike!

Nina

ummm no...she lied about that in her diary. That's the whole point. He didn't abuse her. That's why she said you have to create a fake diary of him abusing her. It was a part of making us feel sorry about her. And it makes it more believable that he killed her. He cheated on her but that's it. She's a psychopath. Just because you saw it in the movie doesn't mean it's true. It's the fake narrative of her diary. That's the point of an unreliable narrator. And the punishment does certainly NOT fit the crime. 😂

James

Ah I guess I didn’t get that part I just assumed they were both assholes since I didn’t like either of them. I didn’t know that they only showed her getting thrown and threatened because it was supposed to be from her fake perspective. That’s my bad I guess

Nina

well when it comes to faithfulness he certainly isn't the greatest guy either...but his biggest flaw is that he isn't very smart. And he makes himself look more guilty than he actually is. But she's a psychopathic genius and he certainly does not deserve that. What a terrible marriage.. Divorce is easier 😂 Yes you really can't trust anything that is written in that diary. 😁 But she's certainly the Alpha in the relationship. Her abusing him is more believable.

Back when I first started listening to audiobooks, this was one of my first and I was floored at the story. The first book I actually listened to twice !! They did a good job in the movie but it does seem like they tried to cram as much in it as possible which is maybe why it seems so fast, especially the dialogue. The book is so much more detailed about Amy’s way of thinking and it is wild !! The “cool girl” part in the book is what I remembered most and I wish they had done a better job explaining it in the movie. But I do love this movie ! One of my favorites !!

MarySoul

thank you for that 🙏🏽 i’ll try the book then. That part sounded interesting in the movie, I thought it would have more weight in the storyline, it makes so much more sense now that you’ve provided this extra info.
