Great movie and reaction! I remember catching this movie on its last day in the theaters and managed to watch it in an empty one. It had a bit of an isolating feeling which made it more immersive!

Fascinating film, and so relevant to our possible future. Beautifully shot, great screenplay, and excellent cast.

Jordan Tanner

Another A24 film logged by Rob and Trin! Let’s keep them coming!!! Also, y’all should really consider watching the first season of Westworld, especially if you liked this.

Mrs. Magneto 🙂 was fantastic on this one. I remember when it came out the movie did so well, everyone was amazed by Alicia's performance, that I even didn't remember Oscar Isaac was in it 😅🤭

Kitikits

This was mesmerizing to watch for a sci-fi movie that’s about a robot. Enjoyed this one. Glad it was chosen.

AI overpowering humanity has become something of a trope in modern science fiction, but this movie shows the more realistic idea of AI manipulating humanity to whatever ends...and that's far more scary. Plus, Alicia Vikander is equal parts creepy and comforting with her performance.

Nina

you remember the Turing test right? You watched a movie about Alan Turing called "The Imitation Game" 🙂

James

Very interesting movie especially in today’s world with AI being how it is. This movie felt like a horror movie even though I don’t think it was meant to, the way Ava moved and acted was so eerie. I’d like another movie that shows the repercussions of an AI getting out like that. I actually feel bad about Nathan I assumed he was a bad guy but he was genuinely just a some dude studying an AI.

Ben

For me this film is really about “Cloud Capital” - the idea that tech billionaires are stealing all your data, information, watching and observing you constantly to improve their AI that will then be used for free slave labor. They are extracting value from you in the form of cloud capital without you consenting or even realizing. This isn’t democracy, facism, or free market capitalism, this is called Technofeudalism.

One of our favs. You could really dig deep into this film and all the possibilities and angles. Great acting and a visual element that keeps you engaged.

Nina

Nathan is a brilliant character.

I never would have thought this movie would be even creepier on a rewatch 10 or so years later. So relevant and thought-provoking

Farva

The way they both just effortlessly push the knife in to Isaac always gets me. No rage, or violent stabs. Just a nice gentle knife to the back and chest.

Farva

Sadly, we all consented when we scrolled past the terms and agreements and hit "I agree".

GoodDocGonzo

Definitely! Unfortunately under Capitalism, any jumps in technology, or methods to increase productivity always results in extracting more profits from workers. It's never a lessening of their workloads, providing them with better wages, or increasing time off.

Can I get a little more of Oscar Isaac dancing please.😋
