AMAZING SERIES... the rest is confetti!

SYN

Henry Thomas plays the younger Hugh and Timothy Hutton plays the older/ present day Hugh. Definitely great casting though out

SYN

I’ll be vague but …there’s so many moments in this show that just have that Doctor Who fantasy at its core and I don’t say that just because Liv directly quotes the “we’re all stories in the end.” line But the second to last episode always felt so DW and I think that’s one of the reasons why I loved it so much lol when Nellie said, “I thought for so long that time was like a line, that our moments were laid out like dominoes, and that they fell, one into another”… I thought of the quote“People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect…” there’s a few more story beats that just feel familiar like—in the best way possible! I won’t write all that down here tho lol

Lindemo

Please also do the rest of the Flanaverse. Every series is amazing in it's own way.

A popular interpretation... which Mike Flanagan confirmed... is that the 5 Crain kids each represent the 5 stages of grief. In descending order, just like the first 5 episodes... Steven = Denial, Shirley = Anger, Theo = Bargaining, Luke = Depression, and Nell = Acceptance. Incredible story, beautifully told. It's a family drama of trauma & healing... that just happens to have a hungry house and some ghosts in the background.

Ghost Mom

Yeah, Bly Manor would be next. Then Midnight Mass, then Midnight Club, then The Fall of the House of Usher is last. The Haunting of Bly Manor is my favorite, but they're all so good. Totally understand needing a break in between, but I'm definitely looking forward to when you start Bly Manor. Hopefully Queen's Gambit is on your single-season shows list, fantastic show, and not scary at all, so Trin would appreciate it. Either way, I'm excited for whatever you plan next. Single-season shows that were intentionally made short are usually pretty solid!

Wendy Sparks

What gets to me the most is always the Dudleys. Mr. Dudley getting his wife to the house in time to be with their daughters. Gah!

Lucinda Michel

Bly Manor is also very well acted and can be creepy but isn’t as scary - if that helps Trin at all 😆

Octavia

In my view... Poppy was the only real evil spirit in Hill House. None of the other ghosts ever tried to harm anyone. The house wants to feed off you... which makes someone like insane Poppy enjoy doing her worst. It amplifies your weaknesses. Making someone as sensitive as Olivia, easy prey for the House thru the likes of Poppy.

Such a great show. So glad ya'll got to watch it and enjoy it! You should do a patreon exclusive of "All of the hidden ghosts you missed in Haunting of Hill House". No spoilers.. but it will really make a big impact on your experience. Unrelated.. Of all the things to talk about.. one thing I loved most was Abigail. Luke said "Nobody believes me.. nobody ever believes me.." Abigail was the audiences chance to believe Luke. You guys picked up on it and knew she was real before the "big" reveal.. but so many didn't. I don't think I did my first watch. So many moments in this series. So beautifully done.. Thanks guys! Looking forward to Bly Manor and Midnight Mass!

Rob saying "mommy ends up in the red room" JUST AS the mom enters her 'reading room'.... eerie! I've always used Steve's speech about how a ghost can be many things in ep 1 as a key to read the whole show. They can be a wish, a memory, a loss, a secret, a regret, etc. as he reminds us in this final episode with the speech to his wife. And the final scene of Steve leaving the house with so many ghosts on his back is very visually telling and stunning imo. We all accumulate ghosts as we grow older, don't we? This show is one of my favorites ever and it was so great to finally experience it with Rob and Trin <3

I'll admit this show started losing me toward the end - many of the twists and reveals were forced or predictable (the only one that really got me was Abigail not being a ghost). That being said, the vibe and jump scares were well done and the acting is far above what is usually seen in the horror genre. I also like the house being used as a metaphor for fear, guilt, depression, addiction - you may think you "escaped" but it never really leaves you.

Stephanie Bedworth

I can’t wait until you guys get to Midnight Mass. I know it’ll be a ways off yet but I’m still excited. It’s my favorite of the Mike Flanagan series.

FedeM

my second favorite after hill house <3

Jennifer Gauthier

I think it's already been said, but Hugh was played by two different actors - Henry Thomas as young Hugh, Timothy Hutton as older Hugh. Thank you, Rob and Trin, for such a beautiful reaction, as always.

Ghost Mom

Another clue about the red room was that any time someone mentioned one of those 'personal' rooms, some one else would be like "What room?" This happened a lot with Clara Dudley. When Nellie found the cup of stars, it was in the red room and she said where she found it and Clara was like "Where?" as if she didn't remember that room existing. She said this to Steve as well when he said he found the vanity in the game room. Steve also said to his mom "Lukes probably in his tree house." and the mom replied "Very funny mister." It also happened with the Mom when she said she'd be in her 'reading room' and luke was like "Wait, what room is that??" This is one of my favorite qualities of these Flannigan Shows. Because he puts clues like this in all of his shows and it's really fun going into another one of these shows with the mind set that even mundane comments or occurances can mean something bigger and trying to figure it out before the reveal is exciting, but he'll also put red herrings in the show too

"I loved you completly. That's all. The rest is confetti." ❤ This show is perfect IMO and a true masterpiece.

Lucinda Michel

I think I heard that Flanagan is a big Dr. Who fan

Octavia

Bly Manor is my favorite as well... because of how deeply I love those characters. That gothic style. It gets relegated down most people's lists because it's not as scary... but it's so beautiful.

Ghost Mom

agreed. less scary, very beautiful and tragic. and I love the cast.

Linda Wightman

It is not as scary but I still think it's a great story I enjoyed it but my favourite after Hill House is definitely midnight mass also loved the fall of the house of usher.

James

This was definitely enjoyable and thought provoking. The characters and storytelling was really well done. I’m looking forward to the next thing. Side note: the entire time they were in the red room my only thought was how much black mold they are inhaling lol

ShelleyAnn

Now go back and look for all the ghosts you missed in every episode!! There's so many hidden in plain sight it's creepy when you realise if you don't catch it the first time 🤭

Angelina Sargent

Mr. Dudleys speech about him and Clara hear their first babies cries hit s differently after watching this episode. Everyone who dies in this house or the property is trapped there. I am super curious how the man who worked on the clock died now....was it a heart attack while fixing it??? 😳

Flopsi80

That´s a very good question! I would love to have more infos on all the ghosts. There are some about a lot of them, but not for all of them. Interesting is also how the ghost (the one who looks like a zombie) in the basement died. Google it, his name was Edward.

Flopsi80

The young one, Henry Thomas, played the boy in E.T. :-)

T3ND0

Midnight Club isn't worth watching imo, it's way more of a teenage aimed show than the others and i don't think the quality is as good, most reactors skip it. Midnight Mass is my favourite :)

Ghost Mom

@ Britt Gonna have to disagree with you. The only thing I'd say is that the fact it got canceled before it got its second season might be the only reason not to watch it, since it doesn't give us all the answers. I think the themes in Midnight Club are complex and worth watching. The mini stories are also quite fun.
