Bridget Jones's Diary 2001 FULL REACTION

Just found out the movies are based on a series of novels from the 90s to early 2000s.

5 minutes in "It's not a bad english accent.." ?? Basically every single person form England told me this is one of the greatest english accents by a non english actor/actress!

This is not my cup of tea either Trin, but my best friend dragged me to the theaters to see this when it came out. I went kicking and screaming 😂😂 but I absolutely loved it !! It’s fun and Rene Z is so cute and likable, you just root for her ! And mark Wanker Darcy is so sexy !

the books were so funny, the first movie really made them justice.

I’m happy that, against all odds, you both enjoy it! The fight scene is very iconic (within the genre) because it was meant to be a joke—somehow dramatic, but above all, a joke. There was no choreography, so some punches actually did land on both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant (whom I’m almost positive that, even now—and ever since Four Weddings and a Funeral—I would still, let’s say, very happily welcome 😁). It was a way to make fun of how two gentlemen from proper high English society would try to fight in the street—that’s why there are those silly improvised kicks, and why they’re always apologizing to the people in the restaurant. Also, to young women in the early 2000s, being skinny as hell was “hot” (believe me, people were appalled that Renée gained “so much weight for the part”), and that was all we saw represented in movies as the “heroines”: these perfect American sweethearts. Bridget, by contrast, was this flawed, honest, sometimes disastrous, indulgent, sweet, and adorably relatable character—just looking for love and ending up being loved just the way she is.

Rob & Trin React!

It caught me off guard lol "Not Bad" is a good thing i thought so was not throwing shade her way haha

It’s also so strange watching this with my 46 year old eyes. I was about 20 or 21 when this came out and always thought Hugh grants character was cute and funny and flirty and that he liked Bridgette and believed his story about the cheating fiancé. I thought her short skirt was the key to him seeing her but that he really liked her. Now I’m seeing what an absolute trash man he is from the very beginning!!! And how in the world did I ever believe that story. It’s crazy how different you see things as a 20 years old compared to a 46 year old. I mean I’m the same person, just seeing it with wiser eyes I guess lol. (This also would explain why I had all trash can boyfriends in my early 20s 😂)

Omg yes! I remember the headlines over her weight gain for this. We were all shocked to see her look like this and wondered how in the world she did it 😂 now I’m sitting over here 131 lbs and thinks she looks absolutely normal!! Crazy how times have changed! Some for the good some for the bad 🫣

Usually don't go for rom-coms (especially the cheesy 90s-early 2000s variety), but gave this one a go cause I'm just sitting home alone with nothing on my social calendar...man, I'm more like Bridget Jones that I thought... If memory serves, there was some amount of (somewhat understandable) controversy in Britain concerning Renee Zellweger's casting seeing as she's (gasp!) an American playing an Englishwoman. But she got a BAFTA nomination for this, so I guess she wasn't all that bad...

ShelleyAnn

Haahahah the intro made me LOL 😂😂 'have no interest. Didn't want to watch it, ugh 😑 '

ShelleyAnn

I personally feel like me and Bridget have the same new years plans. 😂 this hits too close to home as a single girl in my 30s hahaha

Kamanda Hickey

It’s good to see that this movie aged beautifully. I loved it as much as when it came out ☺️.

This movie remains so enjoyable because the good natured awkwardness is just so relatable. And no one is a better Mr. Darcy than Colin Firth. (His 'Pride & Prejudice' Mr. Darcy put him on the map... and here he's just as perfect as a modern Mr. Darcy.) Love Colin Firth. But I've got to say that his was peak cad from Hugh Grant. He plays it so delightfully that I'm glad his douchery is what the story turns on.
