You know you are absolutely right. There are always times where Cartman says "I love you guys" but nobody ever says it back to him. It is most definitely why he remains unchanged because of how much he feels like nobody actually cares or loves him and that is what develops his personality and stays until adulthood since hes around Kenny, Kyle and Stan.
