I had to re-write the latest Being Fiona strip, so I've decided to swap it's update slot with Heart Guardians to give myself another day to get that revised strip finished.

Anyhow...

Big reveal here about Toby and Robin's relationship! If I have time one day, I might make a comic that tells the story in more detail of how it goes (although it doesn't really have a good happy place to end the story), but in short the original timeline before the Shadow-man's actions forced Toby's magic to subconsciously intervene went like this:

Cassie becomes a Heart Guardian, invites 16 year old Rob to join her team. Rob becomes a female Heart Guardian much like Scott did.

Rob takes advantage of his female Heart Guardian form and starts a double life as Robin, Rob's out-of-town cousin who's visiting for a while.

Deciding to prank Toby, Rob in disguise as Robin, flirts with Toby.

The prank goes wrong and Robin finds herself developing a crush on Toby, but Toby is too occupied with chasing all sorts of girls and doesn't want to commit to any one girl.

Rob comes out to Toby, convinces Toby to date her, but Toby has trouble keeping his eyes off of other girls. (Or does the magic prevent Toby from remembering that Rob is Robin?)

After a rocky relationship, Robin and Toby get married, and Anna transforms Rob permanently into Robin as a wedding or engagement present.

Toby really loves Robin, but struggles with his womanizing. Robin separates with Toby a few times because of Toby's cheating, but constantly forgives him despite her better judgement.

But none of this happens due to the threat of the Shadow Man killing Rob if he becomes a Heart Guardian, so Toby's magic awoke early, changed the course of fate to save his future love, and put Robin on a different path where she will have a happier life.

This is getting complicated, and late in the night here, so I'll just say there's a typo in the panel before the last. "to us it" -> "to use it" 😘

You can't really complain Gildamore when you just went off on a talent about alternate timeliness when all you had to say was "the Shadowman can block my precognitive powers." I do think it shows an interesting subconscious bias that Gildamore refers to versions of the future he can see without the intervention of other precognitives as the way things are "supposed to be." It oddly elevates precognitives as being outside of natural law, as opposed to just being people with access to more information. It would be odd if you saved someone's life and started going around saying they were "supposed to die." But it's ultimately the same thing. You intervene in order to change something you think will happen. I'm not sure that Gildamore's visions of the future should be considered any differently.

Yes... except we don't get to see her ears; she looks human, in which case I call that fake. ...unless Rob's elf-obsession is later development...

So Gildamore is Toby's father, and not Bill? Both are Anna's ex's so wasn't 100% sure... Unless that was alternate Toby... Gild is father, Bill is dad? (genetics, nurture)

It will be interesting if Robin was not originally ever Fae but ended up becoming Fae due to the Shadow Man's meddling

RobinHarper

Gildamore considered Robin being the Blue Heart Guardian as "what was meant to be" because all of the other precognitives would have seen that future as well. To them, changing events to occur differently than what they all had foreseen would be like artificially changing the natural course of a river, or cutting down a forest to create a field.

RobinHarper

If Robin had become the Blue Heart Guardian, she never would have eaten a berry, and would have never had turned herself into a Faerie. She would have lived her life as an ordinary human with magical powers.

RobinHarper

That will be explained later in this chapter!

RobinHarper

Robin becoming a Fae was an accidental consequence of the Shadow man's meddling. Or another way to look at it, Robin become a Fae was caused by Toby's magic in reaction to the Shadow man's meddling in order to protect Robin.

I think it is a very similar thing, but it would be interesting to regard, for example, farming as "changing the way the world is supposed to be." And if you did categorise it that way, it kind of implies humans aren't "supposed to" exist. As though we are outside of the natural world and not part of it. Depending on your point of view that makes us either more or less than natural. It feels very human that Gildamore would think this way, but it is still a bias of a sort.
