We'll start off with a minor spoiler of a costume test for Felix back as Fiona for a VR fighting game Felix tries out with a certain someone while Jess is busy with another someone.

Anyhow... Potential Big spoilers ahead, but I could easily changes directions again.

So, that outline for the new story direction I wrote back in June is already proving itself to be a bit obsolete for the next few weeks in-story. I've replaced the Star-League convention with Jess and Lisa inviting the boys to go out dancing instead and Hugo's AR demonstration might get moved to later in the story with Felix and Hugo only hanging out in VR at this part of the story.

I've been running through various plot line options for how Craig and Lisa hook up, and had settled on a drama-filled idea that Jess 'bribes' Craig into going along with the lie by telling him that Lisa has invited him to a night out dancing later that week, and that they are going to prepare for it by Jess speed-running a relationship with him. After a few days of 'practice,' Jess convinces herself that this fake relationship has become a real one, while Craig still believes that the relationship is just pretend for fun and he mistakenly misinterprets the plan to be that Felix and Jess are trying to help him hook up with Lisa when they meet in person later that week. Craig and Lisa meet, wires get crossed when Lisa asks Jess if its okay if she dates Craig, Lisa goes home with Craig and Jess is devastated.

Lisa then either finds out that Craig screwed up and dumps him, or Lisa and Craig discover that they only have Star League in common and break up after two weeks.

After Christmas break Jess discovers that her summer internship has been cancelled, Felix finds out after he is offered the internship in Jess' place, when Felix tries to get in touch with Jess, Lisa tells him to hurry to Jess' place because Jess is preparing to drop out of school and packing up to go back to Canada because her summer internship, school, and Craig were all a bust.

Felix offers to let Jess take his place as Felix for the summer internship (and the Neurolink Researcher offering that summer internship is suspiciously open to the idea, for reasons) and Lisa who was just in the other room hears the offer, figures out that Felix was Fiona, and gets super pissed at Felix (but forgives Jess?).

But as much as it will make for good drama, I'm not entirely happy with that plot-line, so I wondered, what if Craig actually clues in on the fact that Jess likes him?

So, in this version, after speed-running a fake relationship for a few days, Craig and Jess become a thing, and then tell Lisa that they have gotten "back together."

Lisa meets Felix at the dance club, finds him cute, and then go home together.

Felix, seeing where things are heading, slams on the brakes and tells Lisa the truth. Lisa is well, a mess of emotions: hurt, confused, shocked, angry, and curious? Lisa tells Felix that he's lucky he's cute and decides to hear Felix out and they hang out on the couch as Felix explains the entire story.

Felix and Lisa don't date, possibly stay friends, not sure yet. Maybe Felix discovers that playing as a male character is boring, and Lisa gets annoyed that she can't make out with Felix in VR? Craig and Jess' relationship also fizzles (the sex was great, but they couldn't 'click'). Lisa lets Felix convince her to give Jess another chance.

When I originally came up with the body-swap for the internship idea, it was Jess asking Felix to help her out, I might go back to Jess asking for a favor rather than it being Felix's idea.

There's less drama here than my current version, but I do like that Felix steps up and chooses to bring an end to the lie rather than Lisa finding out because Felix slips up or is forced to admit the truth.

Anyhow, I still have some time to figure this all out, so I might end up with an entirely different idea.

Your choice of course, but personally? I think the "character growth" version fits the characters better. The drama arch reads - in this short summery at least - a bit too much like a soap opera arch. Just my opinion, of course, I am curious where the actual plot leads to.

I strongly prefer the "character growth" path. As written, it feels much more of a continuation of the current storyline, and it's good to have characters such as Felix finally managing to get the truth out. It still opens them to many uncomfortable shenanigans with the Dreamband and implants. The drama plot feels like it should conclude the story, continuing after that would be weird.

Hi ! I would say... It all depends on the end goals you have in mind for the characters 😊 At the start I thought the story would be steered in a completely different direction that it seems to be headed now, but it doesn't mean I don't like it ! I'm all on board with any character growth that feels right to you ! I agree with the comment stating that the drama path would be a possible end to the story. As you are a TG creator I would've thought there would be some IRL TG - for Felix - but I was thinking wayy too stereotypical and barren. Thanks for the amazing work, cheers !

Yeah, the drama arch read to me like a sitcom, and I think the story and characters have moved past that kind of plot. So your input here really helps.

RobinHarper

It's kind of funny, I kind of felt like Felix finally managing to get the truth out by his own volition felt more like a conclusion since the drama path feels to me like a messier conclusion.

RobinHarper

Oh, through some tech shenanigans some IRL TG is definitely coming up. In fact, it'll be the focus of the rest of the story after the lying to Lisa plot line is concluded.

It would indeed be a conclusion for the initial story line, when Felix lied to Lisa. But the universe and character cast are rich enough that many other story lines are possible.

I had an udea tgat just as Felux begins to comfrss to Lisa, she interrupts him with "you're Fiona, right?". By that time Lusa would have enough interaction with both Jess and Felix to pick up on who Fiona is most similar to.
