Barbarian : Path of the Battlerager (Revised) (Patreon)
Content
This week I decided to focus on pure martial subclasses. Indeed, I remarked that most of the latest official subclass were all magical, even for martial classes! And I think that it might be because pure martial subclasses that were printed previously were mostly seen as underpowered, or less interesting to play. And that's sad, because playing a full martial character, master of weapons and physical feats, can really be awesome too !
That's why i chose to try to rework the two main martial subclasses of the barbarian : the battlerager, and the berseker ! (The berseker is on its way and should be available soon).
So... here is my suggestion for the battlerager ! To do it, i looked for what that subclass was known for, and two big things came out : battleragers are known for their (spiky) armors and for rushing into melee ! So That is this feeling of being a (spiky) bulldozer that i tried to share here. So that you can be that unstoppable force that stomps everything on its path !
Edits:
- 3rd level : you can now use your shield or armor as a weapon at level 3 instead of level 6.
- 6th level : you deal 3 more damage when attacking with a spiky shield or armor
- 6th level : you now need at least a short rest instead of an action to fix spikes on a piece of armor.
- 3rd and 6th level : magical shield/armor now deal magical damage.
- 14th level : now require you to be raging.
Edits 2 :
- 3rd level : you can no longer benefit from the barbarian's movement speed increase when wearing an heavy armor
- you can now fix spikes on armors and shield at level 3.
- the +3 damage at level 6 has been removed, instead, the damage of your spiked shield or armor starts at 1d4 at level 3, and scale to 1d6 at level 6.
- 6th level : the piercing damages now scale with your proficiency bonus instead of being a flat 3.
Edits 3 (03/06/22) :
- Changed the name of the 10th level feature as "Buldozer" sounded to much anachronistic.
