Geisha OC WIP (Patreon)

Little BTS on a geisha character I've been working on today.

I had to be careful not getting lost in research on the subject, as geisha culture is extremely interesting. Traditionally geishas command a lot of distinction and respect in Japan. The word geisha more or less translates to artist, as they dedicate themselves to the art of conversation, musicianship, singing, and the overall skill of entertainment. They truly are the life of the party, just in a traditional sense.

So for this character I wanted less of a submissive stereotype and more of a reserved confidence. After all, a geisha would be incredibly adept socially and can navigate social situations more confidently than most. Any submissiveness in this sense would be more or less a put on, a way to charm others and be personable. But her observation of tradition and reservedness publically would not mean she lacks any self assuredness.

A quiet, strong confidence from this character, with round, jolly features seems to fit my vision for her.

She has traditional kimono, makeup, and wig hairstyle w minimal ornamentation as would be the case with a higher status geisha. She does not need "extra" to grab attention, as she quietly and confidently has your attention anyway. Her delicate gaze could certainly cut thru a room of other beautiful women, making her stand out without being showy whatsoever. I feel her knowing look communicates just a hint of her very strong sexuality, a sex drive far beyond other ladies and one which she feels no need to display overtly. I'd say she's the opposite of an insecure person.
