I love this session! I had wanted to work with Carla for a long time and when we finally organized it, she suggested doing something like a still life. She told me to buy some fruits and do something at her table. I asked her if there was an interesting light at some time of the day and she told me that 8am there was a very cool light in the kitchen –believe me, I prayed that it didn't dawn on cloudy. I arrived super early, around 7 and indeed a very cool light was coming through the kitchen window, also the whole kitchen was mamey color, so it looked even cooler. Then we took some pictures in her room, super chilled with her kittens, and the light was still beautiful. We went to the grocery store and returned to move everything to do our still life, for the background we used an incredible wall full of pictures and then began to arrange the fruits. I loved the result, it is something completely different from what I had done and I think it came out incredible; I even decided to try a different edit than what I always do. Carla is a super creative and talented person and I loved working with her. I hope to take pictures with her again soon. Fun fact: we have our birthday the same day <3
--------------------------------------------TESTIMONIOS--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------TESTIMONIALS--------------------------------------------
1- I feel that sometimes I am a little pessimistic, I think things too much and I can literally spend hours thinking and thinking, having a sort of conversation in my mind and that can really make me feel down. I feel that in the end, you are what you decide to be with what you have, with your abilities and when it’s meant to be. Sometimes I have questioned this idea of "I could have done that or spent more time with someone", the reality is that maybe at that time I didn’t have the patience or I was sad or upset. I think we have to accept that we are not a machine and that there are ups and downs. Sometimes I don't give myself the time to live the lifestyle I want and I wonder why if I want it, why I'm not doing it. Maybe it's because right now my growth is different, maybe it's not my time to do it, and I need to get into something else and then have the strength to do what I want and genuinely enjoy. Anyway, in the end I have learned to embrace every stage of my life and not suffer it.
It's being very honest with myself. I think honesty has to do with not blaming anyone and not blaming yourself. Just take responsibility for who you are and accept things. If you have bad habits, transform them and gradually work them out. I feel that we are taught to be very productive, to have magic keys and recipes for absolutely everything, "If you want to be on a diet, read this book of the 10 steps to lose 15 kilos in 4 days!" - Those magic recipes for anything; there is no constant work or patience. In reality, growth is super gradual and requires you to breathe and understand that you are going to have very cool moments and you are going to say "It's good that I already know how to do this or that I already react in this way" but there are going to be others where you can't react as you would like. What I try the most is to accept those moments, I think that has helped me not to hurt people, to be very clear with my limits and with what I need, in a more loving way for me and my environment. The desire to affect the existence of other people and other beings and my environment as little as possible has also worked for me, I try to live with the minimum of waste and superficial or banal things. I've already given up a bit in establishing who I am and just am and I forgive myself and breathe. I don't know if that makes me a better person for others, but it does make me kinder and more loving to myself.
2- Meditating is what makes me feel genuinely powerful; you wake up and connect with yourself and with a lot of energy. In the end when you manage to wake up from that trance, you feel so much power and well-being.
In my work, when people connect with what I do, I don't know if it makes me feel powerful, but it does makes me feel that my existence is a little bit bigger than I am. In the end I feel that indeed we are more, and that we are united and that is powerful; the union between people is pure power.
3- I would advise anyone to question how they grew up, how they were educated and in what cultural context they live. I think that makes us freer; if we question ourselves we get rid of habits that are not useful to us and that are only perpetuating things that oppress us, that do not let us move forward and be the complete human being that we can be, to go for what we desire, what we want and what makes us happy.
An example would be waxing. Once you question why women wax, and why it is judged as unclean if you don't, you can create a new criterion that is only about your body and how you want it to be. If you want to have the routine of waxing in your life or to have smooth skin, if this is how you want to see your own skin, that is valid and liberating, and it takes away the meaning that for years has been given to it by society.
We must rethink what are the habits that continue to oppress us and that continue to blind us towards much more relevant current issues and problems.
4- Yes, I think they treated me differently for being a woman. It seems obvious to me because this is a patriarchal system, so all of us, even if we don't notice it, even if we haven’t done the exercise of questioning what surrounds us, absolutely all of us, are under the oppressive fist of patriarchy. It doesn’t have to do completely with a gender, not all men have to do with toxic masculinity. It has to do with a system that is being controlled - by men and women. Yes, I believe that every woman has been treated differently for the simple fact of being a woman, just as every man has been treated differently for being a man. The thing is that patriarchy always has a tendency to favor men and put them in positions of power over other people, and women to bend and be submissive.
5- Over the years I observed that in my grandmother's house there were differences in the treatment of the grandchildren. The boys didn’t have to set the table, pick up their plate or serve themselves; we did have to serve our food and serve it to our brothers or our cousins. They could keep talking, playing and drinking, and we had to pick up the table to gossip in the kitchen; the issues became irrelevant the more women there were. Even more gossip, even more banal. That is something completely implanted. Actually, I feel that with my parents there weren’t such differences, they tried to educate us in the fairest way possible. My education and how I perceived the world was different because my dad was schizophrenic, so we lived in a very unique dynamic and very distant from the dynamics of other families. As a child, I saw my mother being the head of my family, the one who went to work. Who cared for us was someone else, along with my dad. That was my childhood, without understanding what was happening around me.
6- In my life, for my parents and for having a brother, I never felt very attached to the concepts of femininity, being with girls and gossip and talking about boys. Until high school, I always hung out with men. My best friends were men and I had a lot more fun with them, although I could wear makeup, be sensitive and delicate. I feel that over time I also began to question many things and I have been who I am for a long time regardless of whether I am a woman. I feel that if I had had a man's body, I would continue connecting with the same things I connect with right now. I think that, but unfortunately society would have guided me to be a man. I feel that this system divides and oppresses us all.
7- My mom had a hard time with my dad's illness. She grew up in a more traditional environment and decided to hide from us that he had schizophrenia. It was pretty obvious what was going on, but it was incomprehensible to me. Why does my dad do this? Why are there times when, even though I know he's in his room, he hasn't been out for days or I can't go in to see him? I would have liked to be spoken to more openly about that; it would have been less hard to accept it as part of my life. I had a stage in my adolescence in which it seemed a tragedy to have grown up in such a family. It seemed to me that I was the black sheep of the whole society, that I would never have a happy life. After having gone to therapy and having spoken openly with my family, I have learned that the more honest and communicative everything is, the less perverse it becomes and I have learned to embrace the way I grew up and my memories. I would say to myself in the past: "You don't have to understand everything, love unconditionally and don't accept what you don't like."
