I sighed reluctantly. "You're in a vulnerable emotional state, AND I am your teacher. It would be Unseelie for me to take advantage of that situation. However I'm always available if you need someone to talk to."

"Thank you," Rebecca whispered, suddenly pulling me into a hug. "Thank you for coming back. All these years I felt like I was just going in endless circles. I was completely lost without you here to guide me."

I awkwardly reciprocated the hug while musing on what she had said. Going in endless circles? I certainly knew what that felt like. Burnside's warning was also starting to make more sense. Over the years we had been apart, Rebecca apparently had begun to think of me as something I was not: A wise, infallible hero who never makes mistakes. This was all the more surprising considering that she had been there when my cult and coven plans completely fell apart. Did she forget? That thought was alarming in its own way. Hopefully just being around and interacting with me for a while would lower her expectations to reasonable levels, as she observed that I was just an elf prone to error the same as everyone else. By Fuma, I had no idea being a mentor was so stressful. How did Estvan do it?

"Are you feeling better?" I asked, when the silence began to feel awkward.

"A little better," Rebecca sighed. "I'm not shaking anymore at least."

"Do you feel well enough to give me that tour you mentioned?"

"Sure," she said, perking up a little.

>Rebecca: You lead Adler outside and then call out to your student witches. “Girls, we’re ready for the tour! Get to your places, just like we rehearsed!” >Adler: She had them rehearse even though she had no idea when you would arrive? >Rebecca: Well, of course. You had every previous coven rehearse a presentation. You all had to be ready at a moment’s notice. >Adler: You watch in bewilderment as all the witches and Burnside scurry around and get ready for whatever they’re supposed to do. >Rebecca: Damn it. You knew you should have had some butterflies on standby for this. You can never go wrong with butterflies. They’re traditional. >Adler: You silently follow Rebecca over to the clearing with a large bubbling cauldron. >Basil: You are clumsily stirring a bubbling brew with a large wooden scepter. >Rebecca: This is your alchemy and potion station. It’s not as impressive as the standard elven alchemy kit, but it fits the traditional aesthetic and suits your needs well enough. >Basil: “Bubble, bubble foil and rubble; Ratheth burn and boilth bubble. Rabbit thkating on a lake, In the cauldron boil and bake; Eye of thpud and toe of leek, Thtool will Thoften just don’t peek, Rub this thlop on your bee sting, You’ll feel like a diamond ring, For a charm to heal on the double, Like a jell-broth boil and bubble. Double, double roil and thtubble; Fire burn and caldron bubble. Cool it with thome herbal mud, Then the balm is thoothingly good.” >Adler: You raise your eyebrow at this… “unique” take on the old classic. >Rebbeca: Healing balms and herbal remedies are your biggest money maker. Old Farmer Brownsly-Smith with pay good money for anytyhing that can help with his bunions. Your wares are quite popular at the farmer’s market. >Rebecca: Next you lead Adler back into the shack you were resting in and direct him to a corner with a chair and some shelves adorned with a very modest collection of books. >Harriet: You are reclining in a chair and pretending to read a book on basic magicks. In your haste to get into position you are holding the book upside-down. “Ah, hello, my lord. I am just reading up on a fascinating subject. Destiny, to be specific. The practical applications of being able to read a person’s destiny through uniquely shaped scars. Now, if I can just have your attention I’ll show you my scar and demonstrate what it means…” >Rebecca: “Harriet, we talked about this. Stop trying to show your scar to every new person you meet…” >Adler: Destiny reading through scars? That’s all pseudo-magick nonsense that was disproven generations ago… You remain silent, though, as to not spoil Rebecca’s tour. >Rebecca: Next you take Addler behind your living shack to a small circle of stones. Fiona is acting out meditating while holding a cheap crystal in each hand. >Fiona: “Ooooooom… Ooooooom… Ancestors guide meeeeeeee…” She surprisingly smacks the crystals violently against her head with a loud, hollow BONK. >Rebecca: “Fiona… You don’t actually need to hit yourself in the head to meditate…” >Fiona: But if you hit hard enough you can see the stars! You’re expediting the process! >Adler: “I think her nose is bleeding…” you note with concern. >Rebecca: With some urgency, you guide Adler away from Fiona giving herself brain-damage and take Adler to a burrow hidden behind a large stone. “And this is Burnside’s armory. We don’t have much trouble with witch-hunters anymore, but it never hurts to be prepared.” >Burnside: You excitedly pop out of the burrow brandishing a filleting knife. You make sure to keep all your blades extra sharp. You’ll get these girls carving people like harvest pumpkins eventually. >Rebecca: That wasn’t in the script you gave her! >Burnside: You didn’t read the script.
