brushed their teeth next to the well, I caught Fiona pretending to brush her teeth by waving her toothbrush around and making extremely fake brushing sounds with her mouth.
“Sssh-ssh-ssssh,” she repeated enthusiastically when she noticed me glaring at her.
"Unless you want to go home instead of going on the trip," I scolded. "You'd best comply with the minimum of basic personal hygiene. Brush your teeth PROPERLY. Also wash your face and scrub behind your ears. That's an ORDER."
She said “Eep” and then complied.
I turned away and strolled the clearing as the femmes went into the cabin to change into their night clothes. I thought about what I should say to Burnside and Rebecca later. My mind began to reel over all that could go wrong resulting from this delicate social situation. Both femmes were upset - at me and at each other - and any little thing could set them off. Ah well, I told myself, I should just get through this night before worrying about tomorrow. Oh no… What if- WHAT IF when I climbed into bed, they each tried to cuddle up to me, and I wound up in the hazardous situation of being sandwiched between Rebecca and Burnside!!! What if a fight broke out over who got to be in bed with me???
Wait… I stopped, breathed deeply, and focused my mind. The chances of that happening were very slim, and furthermore elves didn’t need to sleep. I would simply stay up all night. Problem solved! And in a very astute and kingly manner, too! Now I just needed something to occupy my mind until sunrise. Noticing the potion cauldron (freshly cleaned in readiness for the trip), I turned it upright and began to make a slow simmer stew.
Now I could stand here and think, and in the morning give everyone a nice breakfast. The leftovers could be used as rations during the journey.

The story room seems rather empty today. Not surprising since the lowfolk holiday of Thanksgiving is upon us. To the few of you who showed up, why not ruminate on all the things you have to be thankful for over the past year. An important lesson I've learned over the course of my adventures is to always remember the good things that have transpired so you aren’t overwhelmed by the memories of the negatives. Be grateful that your head didn't fall off or that you didn't sprout a bunch of quills on your abdomen.
Since someone brought an entire frozen turkey (is this a turkey??), I may as well make some turkey stew while everyone talks about what they’re thankful for. Even though I don’t partake in lowfolk holidays, I may as well wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving while you’re here. Eat some stew and fortify yourself for the ordeal to come. Tomorrow is your horrible "Black Friday" when hordes come out to rampage and pillage across the land, consuming all in their path, and after but a brief two-day respite, you must face the horrors of "Spider Monday" which I don't even want to think about. You lowfolk are strange indeed.
That reminds me, I need to make myself scarce because you know who is on the prowl during this season! Someone will hopefully be here to take over storytelling duties starting next week and going til after Christmas.
