This project I talked about earlier has finally BEGUN! There will be no hiding from it!
Yes, my crochet hook has a cork stuck on the end. I did that several years ago because the back end of the hook was digging into my hand and making it hurt. Also the cork lets me hang the hook in a stitch while I'm moving things, and it won't fall out! I really ought to go shoppin' on Ebay and get a spare or two in case something happens to this hook. It's an old Boye USA aluminum size H/8 (5mm). They carry that brand at my Walmart but the new ones are made in China out of a different metal. I bought one but don't use it because the new ones are very noticeably a different shape and it doesn't feel right. When you are doing thousands of stitches, the little things matter - so currently this is the only hook I have that I can use.
The card labeled "STEADY" says "CHANGE" on the other side. It's part of a system I use to keep track of what's happening in each row, so when I stop I can come back later and pick right back up without disrupting the planned pattern. Stopping on a steady row is best, but sometimes I get interrupted.
And here's something I sketched on a cardboard coffee sleeve at lunch today, to help explain to a friend what this "crazy project" I had been planning was all about. After I got home, I inked it and digitally shaded it in GIMP to make it look nice for y'all.
Round eyes (like in the drawing) would have been cuter, but the way yarn works sort of forced me into a design with rectangular eyes.
