Does anyone know if being terrified of butterflies is common or did I just somehow traumatize both my children with them?

Man, my art style has changed a lot since these first comics I made during lockdown! These old ones are from 2021 and have never been posted publicly before. Even though it's hard for me to look at them, I still think its nice to see the progress I've made over these past 2 years :)

My partner is terrified of butterflies. She blames it on an old SpongeBob episode she saw as a kid that had a cartoon butterfly turn into a real butterfly on the screen 😑

I personally don't know anyone who's afraid of butterflies specifically (general aversions to bugs aside), what did you do? 😆

The Fossilfish

Never knew anyone afraid of butterflies. I don't suppose cicadas are a thing in Nova Scotia, are they?

Butterflies are harmless af. It's the wasps that can fuck right off to the 9th circle of hell. Also maginfying. 🙃

Protese84

This with the butterfly did not really happen, right, RIGHT 😅

Maginfying mirrors? 😉 Seriously though the older comics still look great, the height of my creativity is a cave painting!

I'm reminded of the first episode of The venture Brothers where the boys ask if the monarch butterfly is poisonous, and the guy they were talking to was like "seriously?"

While they might be hard to look at, they symbolise growth and the journey that you've been on. Like most journeys, you never know where you're going to end up, or how your influences and inspirations are going to change during that time. I think the newer approach is more lively and organic while the older approach is more stylised and clean. Both work depending on what you're trying to convey. You'll probably find that you've changed again in a few years and a few years again after that. Creativity is such a broad brush with many strokes and in those strokes we find the intricacies of individuality. 🙂

Amazing how far you've come as an artist I was there when you first started posting comics now you're coming out onto your own congratulations for the success

I had a friend who was terrified of moths. Always confused the hell out of me.

Re: The butterflies... If you'd spend a little more time traumatizing your family, you could get a lot of new material for your comics. Come on Ellen, do it for the art!

I always liked butterflies 🤷‍♂️ thanks for the laugh! Your style has improved a lot and you're good at the NSFW stuff too; keep at it!

If you really want to freak them out, let them know butterflies drink blood too. They can't pierce flesh with their little tube mouths, but if some blood from a dead/wounded animal is around, they'll slurp it up for minerals! Hooray for tiny beautiful vampires!

DrHorrible

Love all 3! My daughter freaks out about anything that flies at her.

Bugs in any form= The Devil to my two. It can be so hard not to laugh at them in those moments! The progression in your drawings is awesome. Even the old ones are 100% better than I can do!

Roamnesia

I got so much more sleep during lockdown.

I laughed so hard, 'butterfly! Kill it!!' because it reminded me when my family went to Yosemite and my sister started screaming at the top of her lungs! We all ran to where she was, thinking that a bear was attacking her and...a bee was on her shoe. yup a bee

Mystery

I also loved the one with, 'Wow, my skin is gross'. Bwahahahahha

Legs for days! Damn son! 😂

About my comment on instagram, butterfly in Portuguese means “borboleta”, and this is also a slang for pussy. I believe we shouldn’t be scared of butterflies lol

Mystery

I only just now noticed the pizza on my plate and cake on another. SO cool!!!

My sister's kid mentioned she doesn't like butterflies today and I immediate showed her this comic. She liked it a lot and said it was accurate for her lol
