I feel you when you say he’s so good at just expressing what he feels even in the midst of not knowing and trying to figure it out. I also liked how you pointed out mono sort of being as one and I think that’s exactly what he intended - being one as in being whole or ‘full’ or one as in lone and even one as in ‘together’, especially that line where he refers to being WITH himself which is something I think we can relate to on a human level but I’ve never seen actually expressed in words. Truly a poet. Mono strikes me now as being sad but it’s weird, when it dropped I felt it was so comforting and hopeful. Especially moonchild, everythinggoes and uhgood. Even though you can just feel sorrow radiating off the songs, it felt like somebody choosing to love even their sadness and befriend it ig? I don’t know. It felt like being seen. I definitely was in a spot then where I felt that lonely and as if that sadness would just always be and ‘forever rain’ on me and sort of accepted it? Now that I’m older and just a little more at peace with myself - I also just want to hug both him and the me of the past haha. I guess the album now acts as a sort of growth mark for me! I’m glad I could experience it all over again with you and come to that realisation :))

I’m so glad you got around to listening to this album ! RM’s albums feel so much like glimpses into his life bc through each album you can feel where he was emotionally when he created the album. The Mono album feels very solemn bc that’s where he was during the creation of it (2016 -2018). A gray monochrome is what he felt represented himself at the time. In the Forever Rain MV you can see that as well. It’s also why his 3rd album is titled Indigo. A hue he felt represented him during his creation of that album (2019-2022)

It’s ultra vulnerable and I agree with your points too! I’m glad you’re past that point on your life as well :)

Thank you for this, I love mono and really appreciate RM for writing in a way that feels so raw. I feel like a lot of bts songs in general manages to be both really sad and comforting at the same time. It was fun that you mentioned the mono reference because there is another bts song that uses that metaphor as well (is that the right word? english is not my first language😅). Mono is one of the mixtapes RM has released, the first one is self titled. I don’t remember if you have seen it but he did a tiny desk where he performed Seoul as well as a few songs of indigo, it was a really nice watch. The other mixtapes are Suga’s Agust D and D-2 and Hobi’s Hope world.

thank you so much for checking out Mono! its still my favorite project from RM. I was going through a really difficult time myself and this album was metaphorically the hand i held along the way that helped showed me i wasnt alone.
