thanks ! I think you'll love the live versions on Netflix arirang is a traditional song which refers to something nostalgic like love

samara

they don’t know bout us, hooligan and normal probs gotta be my top 3, those are IT for me 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

FZA

Arirang is a very famous Korea folk song it's bigger than the national anthem, the meaning is unknown and can be multiple things more specifically about love and longing

FZA

There are quite a few cultural references in this album

I wish they made Normal the title track. I find Swim to be.. not very memorable.

I can't wait for your reaction to the comeback live! I liked "Like Animals" before, but hearing it live really blew me away and I ended up loving it even more! The No.29 interlude is the sound of the Bell of King Seondeok and is one of Korea's national treasures. On the album, it's meant to be a meditative pause to break up the frequency of the album from the high energy of the first half to the more calm energy of the second. I think I read that the 1:37 time is how long it takes the bell's sound to completely go quiet.

My top favs are like animals, hooligan, they don't know bout us, swim, please and aliens. I really like the album, it was indeed different as they said and I found some songs to be very experimental, I was shocked on first listen lol Btw, Arirang is a very famous folk song of Korea, that from what I know it's almost like a 2nd national anthem and it's been passed down through generations, the word doesn't have an exact meaning, it comes with a significance of sorrow, longing, resilience, love, reunion...

Dionna

It kinda is. It’s the one they seem to be promoting alongside Swim

FZA

This album really needs a lyric break down because in true BTS fashion their songs have a lot of meaning and depth for instance Aliens is them calling out the racism they recieve by westerners in particular

Please is my favorite song but overall idk maybe I was expecting something else I thought it would going to lean more of a daeng vibe etc but it was more experimental and hip hop / rock so the album is like a mid level for me of all their albums I have a few I can listen to regularly but I think there is a song for everyone on here

Janelle

I really loved Normal, after seeing the live on Netflix, and I revisited the whole album after watching the live. I feel like I need to really sit with this album for a while.

Alicia Combs

Loved normal! Really like most of the songs overall!

I have to say, I love this album top to bottom. The songs at the beginning are really transformed by the live performances. 2.0 is a promoted b-side, I think--they performed it at the Spotify thing on Monday and apparently recorded a live for Jimmy Fallon for tomorrow. The choreo really helped it click for me. Super swaggy. And Hooligan, FYA, and Aliens are so hype. They'll be great in a stadium. One of the most impressive things about this album for me was how they managed to achieve a real balance of the members, not just in line distribution but in sound. They were able to feature both the rap line and the vocal line on all of the tracks and we heard a lot of range from everyone because of it. I think RM and j-hope definitely had a strong hand in the direction and sound (the album having clear influence from RPWP and JITB) but all the members are so clearly present in the final product. It feels like a truly OT7 project. And Into the Sun was the perfect ending. The stacked dissonant harmonies (which were Tae's idea!) have been polarizing but I really got it. All seven voices are there and layered across octaves and it makes the chorus feel emphatic...like what they're saying is the most important thing in the world. The lyrics read like vows so I think it was a really strong choice that makes the song inherently more emotional. Especially with how it finishes with that optimistic, new-dawn-reminiscent, 4/4 drum outro. Great way to close an excellent album. BTS obviously faced a lot of pressure with this comeback and I think they rose to the occasion. They gave us something fresh but still accessible and relatable. It wasn't just a derivative of the same old mainstream stuff...it had a distinct twist on every track and I feel like that really helps this album carve out its own space for Bangtan in the music industry. I just really love it and I'm so proud of them!

OH--By the way, the track No. 29 is a minute-and-a-half long recording of the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok, which was built in 771 during the Silla era. It's classified as National Treasure Number 29 by the Korean government (hence the name). The bell can't be rung anymore so ARIRANG has preserved the sound and brought it to the world. The track last 1 minute and 37 seconds because that's the exact amount of time it takes for the bell sound to fade completely. Tae told us in a live that there's a cultural belief (or legend, at least) that the longer you can hear the bell, the purer of heart you are. Anyway, the boys included it to mark the transition point between the heavier hip hop portion of the album to the more melodic balk half.

By the way, I’m a swimmer so every time I’m at the pool I hear “swim” in my head which is really irritating because it’s not fast enough. I need Adrenaline by Ateez beats per minute. 😂
