312 pieces 🫡🍺Pouring one out.

Doc Robot

At minute 10 and I think y'all should check our Train to the End of the World (very current, train centric OP) or Frieren (good)

Michael M.

I would love to see them do the Spy Family movie

Michael M.

Would also love you guys to cover Demon Slayer season 4! Or the beginning since Matt hasn’t seen it

Rory McDaid

I’m all for Spy X family movie chat - it’s also out in the UK next week and I’ll be going to see it. 👍

J0hn

Got three words for ya. Revolutionary Girl Utena

Cropply Crab

With Heather's recent One Punch Man news there's never been more reason to watch Mob Psycho 100!!!

Andrew

I need someone to sit Jinwoo down and force him to beat elden ring as research

SchniedelWutz

Please don't watch spy family. I do like the series as well but I don't think I can handle another disappointment for heather right now.

SchniedelWutz

Thank god it was a fake cactus. I was worried for Nick

Buddy Jones

With a new season of anime upon us have y’all ever thought about doing the first episode of multiple series. It could be fun to view the full range of what the current release of anime is all about. Also in other Anime news a trailer for Tatsuki Fujimoto’s (Chainsaw Man Mangaka) Look Back was released and it’s something I look forward to the most this year.

Cal

My favourite thing about “The Last Duel” is that Ridley Scott blamed it bombing at the box office on ‘millennials and their cellphones’👌

Brad Pearson

Y’all should give Mashle: Magic and Muscles or Fire Force a watch. Both have a good mix of action and humor. Also, season 2 of Mashle and season 1 of FF have some of the best opening songs.

Matthew Siegel

Personally, I like when the one off episodes are for self contained movies. Feels weird to have access to the entire history of Japanese animated movies and instead choose the tie in movie of the month. It’s like a western animation focused podcast doing a PAW PATROL: THE MIGHTY MOVIE one off.

MK

Another great series in the books! It's been real fun watching Solo Leveling with y'all. As for the next series I'd still love it if y'all covered Tower of God season 1 before the new season starts this summer. Check out the season 1 trailer, I think it does a good job of capturing the shows vibes.

wjodendor

You could do the Gunsmith Cats OVA in a single podcast episode

The Mountain That Abides

Playing Elden Ring for the first time while watching Solo Leveling has been an eye-opening experience. I feel that same addiction to making my character stronger so I can get revenge on bosses that were wiping the floor with me. Getting strong and skilled enough in the game to kill Mogh, Lord of Blood in one attempt a couple days ago was an almost religious experience. I cannot imagine the danger of having a leveling system in real life. Also, when are you cowards gonna stop beating around the bush and review the greatest anime series of all time: King of the Hill? Best wishes.

I'm a few episodes behind and wanted to add my wife’s job to the work conversation. She's a marine biologist with Canada's DFO (Department of Fisheries and Oceans), which means she spends half the year playing tag with cod and halibut on the ocean. The Coast Guard boats she is on are technically DFO science boats. We often think of the Coast Guard as search and rescue operations only. But most of the time they’re just doing science stuff. Occasionally, they get called to do the search and rescue thing. This led to my wife being on the boat last summer and getting herself involved in an international incident. The goddamn search for the Titan submersible! Because of the extreme nature of the circumstances, science crew, including my wife, got drafted into this makeshift comms team. She would be on the bridge taking the minutes of the communications between coast guards, militaries, and even fuckin’ FIGHTER JETS while on the search, And after a 12-hour shift of this. She’d head to the galley to watch some TV and Anderson Cooper would be talking about her day's work. She found all of it to be an absolutely bizarre and surreal experience. But it ended up with me having a small sample of the water at the Titanic site on my desk. So that’s nice. PS: She played both Dredge and Dave the Diver on Wiger's recommendation while at sea last fall. We both really loved listening to the Dredge episode when she was back home, though she raised an eyebrow at Nick saying people who work at sea are ‘troubled.’

If none of y’all have seen it, I think Mob Psycho 100 would be a good show to cover. The main character, Mob, is essentially Saitama but with psychic powers instead of punches. The animation is spectacular and there’s a lot of action, and it’s genuinely funny but is good at quickly shifting tones and getting serious. It’s also 3 seasons of 12 episodes, so you could always just watch the first season. Also, for anyone who liked Delicious In Dungeon, I’d recommend Frieran: Beyond Journey’s End

Kevin Ela

Frieren or Bojji (Ranking of Kings) plzzzzzzz! I’ll take Mob too.

Codinapkin

Frieren is fantastic. Summer time Rendering is a really good 26 episode complete anime with a great episode to episode suspense but a pretty satisfying ending.

Arthur Newman

Do the Simpsons episodes where they go to Japan

Joe Siemsen

Id be interested to listen to you guys chat about Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo. For a one off something from Sotoshi Kon. Literally anything everything he made is great.

Ted Kord

Thanks for covering Solo Leveling! I definitely wouldn't have watched it without the podcast, and while I was almost too uncomfortable to continue after the violence of the first two episodes, I'm glad I stuck with it, and can't wait for the second cour/season! I really like it when you alternate new/old, so I'd prefer going back to a classic anime for the next series, either Serial Experiments: Lain or Revolutionary Girl Utena Looking forward to watching the Spy X Family movie this weekend with my wife. Spy X Family is the only anime she watches with me -- thanks to Nick for the inspiration to watch that show!

Jesse

Would love to see Cowboy Bebop covered in the same way Evangelion was. Wouldn't be made at them covering Kaiju No. 8 either since it's dropping now and Heather has mentioned reading the manga as well.

Codinapkin

The Jeju island stuff is better handled in the manwha. For starters it's an S-rank dungeon break, which I'm not sure if the anime even mentions, but also they reveal the flying ants in a much better and more consequential way. A single flying ant lands on an island and kills the entire population, and they have to send an entire guild raid team just for the one ant.

Dbridge

I would recommend tatami galaxy or ping pong the animation. Both are pretty short 1 series adaptations done by masaaki yuasa, who directed devilman crybaby. Tatami galaxy is a mildly supernatural series about this student going back in a time loop, trying to live out a perfect college experience, really touching anime. Ping pong the animation is a sports anime about two friends and their different approaches to ping pong. The animation for both are incredibly well done.

Spayde

Re: the question pitched to the listeners on today’s episode - 100% think that you guys should cover spy x family: code white. Anyone who can’t see it right away will still have access to the episode later once they do. also, it’s a standalone story and if you have a general idea of what spy x family is, you can enjoy it if they hadn’t watched the anime.

McKinley

Yes to covering the Spy x Family movie. I already have my ticket to see it tomorrow 😀 I see a lot of frieren in here. While I enjoyed my watch, I don’t know how interesting it would be to talk for 13 podcast episodes. Also I don’t think HAC would really like it. If you’re going current anime, Mashle please. Older, maybe Gurren Lagann?

JoeyGuy7

Mob Psycho would be a great choice for next show!

JoeyGuy7

Also love Frieren

David Mucci

I’m not sure that episode 12 works as a season finale of television. The biggest issue is the Jeju Island stuff — boring setup with literally zero payoff in the episode itself. I think that could have been more artfully handled. However, I enjoyed the show overall. Re: Haruhi Suzumiya, I always think of when I was drunkenly talking to a barback in Shinjuku in my limited Japanese about anime, and I mentioned Haruhi, to which he immediately said “ah! Endoresu Eito!” I don’t know if it’s good or bad if that arc is apparently Haruhi’s enduring legacy. Finally, I’m glad Nick is reading One Piece! I think he will really enjoy the storytelling of the “cover series” that start in a few volumes, as well as the hilarious comments in the SBS question corner.

beatnikbedlam

we still need Akiba Maid War and Birdie Wing. but i’m also gonna throw out Initial D this time. it’s about street racing, from the 90’s, kinda goofy art style but super exciting with an incredible soundtrack

Alex Chosid

I vote no on Spy x Family and I’d love to see you all cover Kaiju No. 8 weekly, or Frieren.

Jamie Hill

First off yes to Spy Family Movie! Gonna see it on 4/20! Also I’ve said it before but we need some Gundam in this Podcast and MS 08th Team is the perfect one! Self contained and short and really interesting. Also I’m caught up on both the Manga and Anime of One Piece. It’s worth the long haul!

crystalhearts

I would love if you covered something a bit girlier for a change! guns and swords and muscles are all well and good but I'd personally much prefer something like honey and clover, princess jellyfish, etc.

okamiki

Solo Leveling aired every Saturday, just like One Piece does. The last few weeks have been great getting to two of my favorite shoes back to back. But when solo leveling finishing I couldn’t wait to see what happens next. So just like I did when finally caught up with the One Piece anime, I went and read all of Solo Leveling! What a journey that was I can’t wait to see Jinwoo’s rise to power fully animated. Nick you’re right around the corner to the place where One Piece sunk its teeth into me, I hope you get the same reaction. Here’s a thought for the next show, One Punch Man. You guys all have had some sort of interaction with it I think it’d be fun to watch along and get your reactions. Currently at 1100 Piece anime, and 1111 on manga with the those numbers rising weekly ✌🏾

Bobson Dugnutt

Loved Solo Leveling, so much so that I switched from the dub to the sub because I watched it too quickly for the dubs to keep up. I'd put it as number 2 on my list of anime watched on the pod below Chainsaw Man. Also Nick is right, Guy is a great name. I'm still trying to persuade a pregnant friend named Julia Standing to name her child Guy if it's a boy, so he can be Guy Standing. She isn't convinced.

Michael Pemulis

I've been feeling down, lately, so I'd be glad to watch something uplifting, next. Maybe Attack on Titan or Psycho-Pass?

Deacon Raid

Hey ya’ll. I produce an entomology podcast (Bugs Need Heroes) and I have some pertinent ant facts for this episode. Ants are relatives of bees and wasps and have a eusocial structure with a queen and workers (although there are solitary species as well!) and all Ant Queens and the male drones have wings. Queens shed these wings after mating and the males just die. The ants on the island would not actually be evolving, but preparing to mate and spread to more places to create new colonies. Perhaps this worse for our heroes. Bonus fact: the stingers on these insects are modified ovipositors and only females can sting. Some parasitoid wasps use their stingers to lay eggs in other insects.

Jamie Hill

Ok, just finished the episode. Idk if there will be a post discussion about Naruto but this year I have watched all of OG Naruto, and am currently in the 4th ninja war (episode 282). I had read the manga already but watching these fights get animated is so amazing, Especially considering it was 2009/10. Also always wanted a reason to drive out of Seattle to the Naruto Ramen and now I have one to tell my wife haha.

Andre V

What do we want? Death Note! When do we want it? Whenever it feels like it might work as a series to watch!

Sam Mitchell

I agree with the suggestion a few others have already made for Cowboy Bebop, but I understand that it’s maybe a bit lengthy for this format. An idea for a shorter show would be Hellsing.

MacheteOfOdin

I'm all for either Mashle, Frieren or Apothecary Diaries. They are all great breaks from the trauma-fests you guys have gone through with Pluto and Solo Leveling. Not to say they are trauma-less, it is anime after all, but there's a fair amount of levity and humor. Also all for a Spy x Family Code White recap. I'll be watching it this weekend.

Mat Leonard

I’m gonna suggest Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! as the next series every time. Also, you’d probably enjoy Mashle, lots of good laughs.

Zack Tennenhouse

Dog Christ is the one on all them Big Dog parody shirts.

Zeon Liberation

Suzume is on Netflix now, for a one off. I still say Ping Pong The Animation. Just an amazing show. And short. Only 11 episodes

Tmacc

I love how Jinwoo didn't know to go for the mages first, rookie gamer mistake.

MurderDonut

Loving your "bad guy" theory that's been evolving as the show goes on. My friend thinks instead that he'll have to eventually reckon with the darkness that's growing in him before he can truly achieve S rank and greatness. I, on the other hand, have a more cynical theory. I have the sinking feeling that this is just going to be an unchecked power fantasy, with no examination of what this growing power is doing to his soul. I hope I'm wrong, though! Looking forward to more Solo Leveling in the future, and definitely more Get Anime'd. BLUE TALK!

Spudowski

I'd like to suggest Golden Kamuy (a personal fav) or Kabeneri of the Iron Fortress as next series. Also congrats on landing the writing job for the One Punch Man movie Heather! I can't think of more capable and worthy hands for that script to be in! And we'll be behind you the entire way! P.S. I'm going to pitch Wiger as Mumen Rider.

XRedGambit

I really enjoyed solo leveling. But comparing it to other anime that we have watched (or listened) to on the podcast, it's one of the best. Only a few series has me wanting to read the manga (manwa) to see what happens next. I've have been entertained with all the shows so far. I really like Heather's take on the main character being a bad guy. I'm a dense person and wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for her pointing it out. My question to you all is when do you normally read these? How much lead time is there? Also would you consider Sandland or else at least the first 6 episodes for a series?

Spudowski

Brave Bang Bravern would be a fun watch for you guys I think. It's got a hell of a twist in it.

Edwin (edoco18)

Solo Levelling was so much fun! But I do agree with Heather’s complaints about the B-story, with the ants and S-class heroes, feeling irrelevant. The anime seems to have chosen to introduce it earlier than the manhwa (like the mother’s condition) to world build and not have the show feel disjointed in season 2 where they become more integral to Jinwoo’s story. Overall I think the show has the potential to be great, but this season very much felt like a part 1. Also please consider Hunter x Hunter (2011) for your next show. The first season is great and I think you’d all three really enjoy it!

Bobson Dugnutt

If you want to persuade Nick to cross an ocean in the name of Get Anime'd, just let him know that you'll make sure to transport some soil from his homeland with him so he can sleep and won't weaken.

RyGuy

I had a great time with Solo Leveling. I agree with the post credits ending just leaving me like " ...okay?" Looking forward to seeing more in the future and hoping it pays off in the end. I would definitely be interested in hearing you guys talk about the SpyXFamily movie. I'm real excited to go see it this weekend!

Deacon Raid

Crazy suggestion: do both One Punch Man and his workout routine.

Seth Bullocks

630 pieces, and watched a few eps later on, mostly just the big fights. Kept up with the manga for a while but dropped off a several years ago. If you want to stay in the video game feels, I’d suggest doing Shangri-La Frontier! The MC gives me Heather vibes in that they are all about the combat. Also throwing in Mashle, it is hilarious! Would also like for you guys to cover Gundam Origins, maybe when the new Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance comes out since it coincides with the One Year War.

Lark

Solo leveling was fun and breezy despite the violence. But, I still have a sneaking suspicion that whatever explanation for the system the show has will probably be unsatisfying. Here’s hoping I’m pleasantly surprised. I would subscribe to a higher tier to just have Matt watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and drop voice memos about each of his new favorite guys.

JoeyGuy7

I don't see birdie wing brought up in these comments but it's VERY big in the discord. And also incredible

Dan Came

Yeah Birdie Wing is a lot of fun!

Robot House

I love that Matt completely misinterpreted Bonus time as Clock Stoppers

Will cline

Does anyone feel like Shangri-La Frontier would be a good show for the get animed crew since the premise is some one that takes pride in playing the worst games of all time starts playing a AAA VR game and dominates do to all the skills learned from the shit games. Btw just hit 747 in one piece.

Dr. Friendgood

I have a sinking suspicion that something terrible is going to happen to Jinwoo’s sister and he’s going to have to “arise” her from the dead! Total guess on my part, but that would be epic

Scott H [Hugizu on Discord]

The Igris fight was absolute awesomeness, especially when the animation style changed to frantic, almost pencil or chalk style line work. And the last Get Anime'd episode was absolute awesomeness. The "3 great and funny friends who haven't seen each other in person in a while" energy was heartwarming. (Side note: Gunbuster was on my library's free streaming app, so I watched all of it and it was rather good - you can see a lot of the Evangelion ideas that are working their way out of Hideaki Anno's brain, there are some great action sequences and creature design, and the ending is both sad and uplifting.) Love the pod!

Brandt Flowers

Have you folks considered watching Mashle? It's sorta One Punch coded where the supposed to be weakest character is the outlier. Like Harry Potter but the main character solves all his issues by punching them. Love the podcasts and insights!

Gino click

Can’t wait for the next spinoff based on things Matt hasn’t experienced, “Get Fish Fillet’d”

FuzzyHuggs

I got really into the anime, so I devoured the manhwa. The manhwa has a habit of quickly introducing a character only to dump them once their specific narrative role is achieved. I.e., an ally who becomes close to Jinwoo with little setup swiftly becomes crucial to Jinwoo completing his current goal, only to never be heard from again. I believe this is why the anime incorporated interstitial scenes showing other characters' independent lives outside of Jinwoo and fleshing out their backstories. For example, the hunter obsessed with Jeju Island isn't obsessed with it in the manhwa and doesn't have a complicated or compelling reason to revisit Jeju. I'm an OG, Stitcher premium fan from the beginning, and I adore the podcast. I've loved being along for the ride as the format has evolved. While it was humorous to hear the inner turmoil you all experienced while playing terrible video games, I much more prefer to listen to my triforce of hosts excited and cheerful to discuss their favorite pastime. Love you all, and Heather, I'm elated to know that you're back out in the world. To put it mildly, cancer fucking sucks.

BensDecoy

Say the SpyxFamily movie and while it was a delight to a fan of the series I’m not sure it would make a good episode since Heather isn’t in on the show. It’s essentially one long episode and it’s fun and breezy but there isn’t a lot of substance to it compared to other films you’ve seen. No specific suggestion for the next watch but something short and a bit older would be neat. Is Golden Boy available for streaming? ENDING TO SOLO LEVELING EXPLAINED by someone who hasn’t read the manga but can infer things: The island is crazy dangerous but the ants were contained there. If they have wings they can leave and attack other places. Also, the implication that “they’ve never evolved before” suggests that maybe other things will be leveling to so our MC and the world beyond won’t just be facing static targets.

Tmacc

I'd be down to watch the SpyxFamily movie. Since Nick brought it up, I think every member of the show would LOVE Mob Psycho 100. It's fairly short, like 36 total episode. I think it would be a fantastic show for the podcast to cover even if you only start with the first 12 episodes (season 1). Mob is a great protagonist, the story is compelling, the animation is unique and beautiful, and the humor is truly on-point. Highly recommended. I was also thinking about this the other day, but Deathnote would be SUCH a fun watch; very different vibe from a lot of other stuff that has been watched, is a classic anime, and the discussions surrounding it would be super compelling.

Chris Reyes

I know there’s only one more segment of Solo Leveling comments, but I pitch “Community Leveling” be shortened to Co-Op Leveling. Snappier and game specific!

LVN

I really enjoyed this cour of Solo Leveling, enough that I’m going straight into the manhwa. I find the world building super compelling, and I want to know more. I’m very curious to see if the manhwa is actually funny because I’m not sure I even snickered or exhaled jovially at any point during these 12 episodes. I’m at 1112 Piece, meaning I am up to date and read the manga weekly. I am also up to date on the dub of the anime (which is 38 episodes behind the sub), and I’ll put my feelings in Solo leveling terms: One Piece is a B ranked anime, but is an S(+) ranked manga. I’m glad you started the manga Nick. In terms of future mini-series: I’d love to hear yall discuss another classic series like a Code Geass, Steins;Gate, or Gurren Lagann (Matt would go nuts over this one). But some great modernish series you all might really like discussing are: Apothecary Diaries, Ascendance of a Bookworm, or Gundam: Iron Blood Orphans. Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon is my dark horse pick because it is absurd and fun.

Andy Hunter

I agree that the reveal of the ants evolving wasn’t handled great, but I am excited by two possibilities that it represents: monsters are evolving in response to Jinwoo leveling up, or the system granted Jinwoo the ability to level up BECAUSE monsters were evolving.

Juan Sudarsky

GUYS PLEASE THREE BODY PROBLEM!! Get three body problem’d!!

Murphy

Watch Frieren! I don’t care if you cover on the show but you gotta see this!

Murphy

Re: Time Stop conversation — you should check out Tales from the Loop that has a similar Twilight Zone-inspired episode that’s really good. The whole show is fantastic and I’m constantly afraid they’re going to erase it from Amazon Prime.
