391 pieces 🤯😐 Just a show about a crew of pirates going on "fun" adventures.

Michael M.

Congrats Heather! Thank you for the shout out Nick, I’d like to hear who your favorite Strawhat is? 🏴‍☠️

Steven_pistachio

Wow- nothing is crazier than someone saying “built to spill” as if it was made up on the spot!

Okay this must be a common experience, because like Matt I also started watching 24 at season 5. Those promos were so good!

I finished a MOSTLY filler-less rewatch of Naruto/Naruto Shippuden a few months ago. The pace of it can get very tiring (spending 200+ episodes to cover 2 days is a bit much) but there are A LOT of AMAZING episodes/moments. The moment Heather referred to, I assume, is the "dropping the weights" moment. My favorite episode isn't even an action packed episode. The episode is called "Team 10" (episode 82 of Shippuden). It deals with one of the characters going through the various stages of grief after losing his mentor. I'd argue it's one of the best episodes of TV in general (not just anime). Naruto is also one of very few shows that I can see one frame of and start crying. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll just say "hand on shoulder." To put it in terms that Matt and Nick will understand, it's like seeing Fry's old dog lying on the sidewalk in Futurama...and now I'm crying about both. Fuck!

Seven years ago a roommate and I decided we would endeavor to watch all of Naruto. After about four months of watching little else besides the anime we completed both Naruto and Shippuden. The filler hurt my soul, but overall it was a great experience and amazing to see how far the show and the characters progressed. Stoked as hell for next month. Let Ani-mayhem reign!

Congrats on One-Punch Man Heather! That is amazing. One of my favorite IPs being written by one of my favorite para-social-people. Glad you are enjoying the voyage Nick! One Piece is my favorite manga. I’ve watched the series 3 times over now. I didn’t know about OnePace, so it sounds like it’s time for another. I think maybe I’ve watched too much anime, is that a thing?

Rachael

"FRESH BABY." 😂😂😂

Well I am very excited for Ani-May-Hem (or however it’s styled). I knew we were in for a treat as soon as Nick raised the topic of what they’d be doing next, and Heather just started laughing. A delight!!

Naruto is a show I adored back in the day. I watched the original, then when it moved into the long stretch of filler after Sasuke retrieval arc, I started following the manga. After that I just watched shippuden when it was covering the arcs I liked most. I think highly of it overall - it has some high-highs but plenty of middling stretches, as I recall. Still enjoyable throughout though. It does have some of my favourite anime fights and sequences in general, and some of its OP’s were real bangers that I often just watch on YouTube when need to kill a few minutes! Shikamaru was always my fave character - the Shippuden arc concluding with the Hidan and Kakuzu fight will forever be a favourite of mine. Particularly the one episode they animated at much higher quality, it still looks fantastically fluid compared to the eps around it. There’s also the anime original ep in there, when Shikamaru is pulling himself together mid-arc out of his grief, which was great for filler! His development from lazy and disinterested kid to a reliable senior figure was always my favourite part. Ok, I’ve talked myself around, I’m back all in on Naruto.

I'm excited for this Russian roulette anime event. And I'm even more excited that Heather is a part of Saitama's quest for a good fun fight. I just love his little round face and I now walk around saying things like Don't touch my hair, and Pay for my ceiling, while giggling to myself, like a maniac.

i’m at 1098 pieces, a few behind on the anime. it’s still excellent! i’ve watched all the filler and most of it is definitely skippable (unless you decide to watch the movies, in which case watching the corresponding setup arcs can be nice). there is one filler arc that is very much worth watching tho, and that’s G-8. it’s really fun, well-paced, lets all the Straw Hats have a chance to shine, some of my favorite stuff in the entire series. and if you’re going to watch one of the movies, i highly recommend Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, directed by Mamoru Hosoda. it’s one of my all time favorite movies period. some truly gorgeous animation.

First ever DVD Akira. Still goated

I started with Naruto on Toonami way back when it first came out. Nothing more nostalgic for me than the chunin exams late at night after my parents were in bed. Naruto has always held a special place for me and I have watched every episode of Naruto and Shippuden. Currently reading the Boruto manga and it is cooking!

corndog

to heather's point about the background characters in naruto becoming actual fleshed-out characters with full arcs.... one piece does this times 1000. i've read/watched both and while i really like naruto i think one piece is the greatest stort ever told. my point is, heather, you should also read one piece. (ps to stay on topic there's a ramen guy in one piece named Wanze)

Alex Chosid

Here to be a ramen pedant and warn vegetarians: usually a miso ramen is miso flavoring on top of a standard broth, usually pork or chicken. Unless it’s specifically a vegan/vegetarian listed broth, assume that miso ramen is not a vegetarian choice: it’s just miso tare in usually a standard meat broth.

Rin Manzano

What would be really funny with Ani-MAY-hem would be, like UGH-tober in the other podcast, if y’all stumble into an anime that eventually consumes one of you after the month is done Also, speaking of ramen, Food Wars is MADE for Wiger. There is a scene where chefs compete to make the most delicious ramen for a panel of judges, and the ramen is so delicious the judges’s clothes literally rip off as they give their best hentai moan while they explain why the broth is really well-made

Zack Tennenhouse

AniMAYhem sounds like a god damn nightmare. Godspeed, and good luck.

Chris Reyes

You said it in jest, but if Heather did Cameos exclusively in the Ash Ketchum voice she would make a fortune

eat the electric rat ash you can do it

nick go to japan already you little frikken baby. I need more deepfried audioclips of Heather going AMSTERDAM in the premiere three-way world warrior segment

Randell Flag

I'm excited for the madness that may will be.

Robot House

Its worth mentioning that One Piece made an entire High school AU for a Nissan cup noodle promotion and the music for all the commercials rocks( Bump of Chicken did it iirc)

clearplastichuman

AniMAYhem sounds like a fever dream, but a dream nonetheless. Cant wait.

Gray

i cannot wait for animayhem this sounds like so much fun 😂😂😂

Future food for thought, a draft for favorite anime opening credits songs (you could include closing credits, or save that for a different episode). Was thinking of this after starting Naruto after listening to this episode of the pod, and absolutely love the opening number for the first season.

Crid

I read all of Naruto, and there were some high highs. Look into the Ocean Cut for the anime. For me it made everything before the timeskip great. Rock Lee vs. Gaara is one of the hypest fights of all time.

Zeon Liberation

The first time I went to a ramen place was after watching the ramen episode of Space Dandy. It just looked so good. I finished the episode and found the nearest ramen spot. I’ll never forget my first ramen. Best damn thing I ever had. Been hooked ever since.

Chris Mal

I love this show! I undertook the Weiger Quest of binging the entire Get Animed catalogue, started late March and have listened to all 90 some as of now. Things I don't like: Heather just saying "Yep...." and y'all's America sucks attitude. Things I like: All the rest!!! Because of this my son and I have been going manga hunting on the weekends. Delicious in dungeon, Vinland Saga, SpyxFamily, and solo leveling are among my current favs. I hope this podcast lasts forever! Thank you Heather, Matt, and Weiger PS Thank you too Ranch!

Tmacc

I've never been to a Jersey Mike's, and I love sandwiches. Googled, and found out there is one 2 miles away from me. Going tomorrow, pumped, will report back. You guys talk about Jersey Mike's like Mike is a beloved family member.

Dabinsk

Like Matt, I grew up when Naruto was in the zeitgeist and it was what really got me started on my anime journey of mega upload streams and crashing my parents’ computer with limewire. I can confirm people would wear ninja village headbands and Naruto run in my highschool, but they definitely were still shamed as anime wasn’t totally mainstream yet. Even though social media makes being a kid terrible now, it does seem like there is more acceptance for liking anime stuff, which is nice.

Dean Lowdon Clear

I like the idea of going with a random episode of a random show, but I usually listen to these podcasts on my drive to and from work, so the watch along episodes don’t really suit me…

Dean Smiros

I don't think we will ever get it in this show for spoiler reasons, but I want a HAC take on post-Pain Shippuden so bad. I think pain is the peak but also love the obito/Madara stuff and like kaguya more than what I feel like is the general take. All of this to say I think a heather spoils all of Naruto ep/series would be interesting both logistically and narratively.

Seth Bullocks

having only seen the first Naurto series (minus the back end fillers) and some Shippuden, my favorite episode is the one where they take the paper exam!
