I eat cereal dry out the box and it’s fucking awesome

Dynamite In The Brain

If you need to convince Matt to switch random anime sites, I suggest pointing out that randomanime.org has chosen to exclude all Pokemon anime from its database. The randime.moe site will let you filter down to just CR, and should work better as it was designed for a podcast whose entire premise was p. much AniMAYhem. Clockwork Planet's character designs fall into the typical LN design trap where the novel's artist never considered the idea that it would have to be animated, so they end up over-designed.

Mr. Lucy

Oh the face I made at the sound of the word Klunt…🤢

David Mucci

It was a fun month! Funny that you mentioned watching anime pilots, because my own version of Animayhem this month was to watch the first episodes of every anime series on my shortlist to watch next. So far, I’ve watched the pilots of: Steins;Gate, Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, Banana Fish, Code Geass, FMA: Brotherhood, and Yu Yu Hakusho. The problem is now I still want to binge all of them! May try to get to Demon Slayer and the 2019 Fruits Basket (jumped onto my radar more recently, lol) before the month is out.

MK

Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are the pinnacle of ape anime, no contest. Given that it's maybe the most widely known anime as well, I think Wiger's point about ape entertainment might be correct.

Console Canon

I can't wait to hear Heather gush about Gundam for the next few weeks. This has been a long time coming.

Steven_pistachio

Heather can not prefer FMA to brotherhood Madness

Michael Pemulis

Clit Rocket is definitely a name I would've given to one of my created players in NHL '94, for Super Nintendo, sharing the ice with Dr. Box, Dick Spit and Piss Face.

wjodendor

Got a real adrenaline jolt from them referencing my comment. I was only mostly joking. Episode 1 of this month was a show I would never watch a single episode of, Yuru camp is a show I might give a watch to the first episode but I have no interest in camping, Rokka I read the first novel and didn't continue so I wouldn't watch that either Cosplay complex is a 3 episode OVA which would be something I'd be more interested in because I've been watching older OVAs recently and it's a smaller time sink since it's so short.

Jesse

So, in the end I feel like Ani-Mayhem was a good representation of the ratio of good to bad anime. For every fantastic show there are two to three pieces of garbage. Looking forward to seeing this series return again in the future.

Went full Leo in Inception hearing Matt talk about me talking about listening to an episode in Ikebukuro (you nailed the pronounciation) while, obviously, walking through the middle of Ikebukuro. According to Google Maps I was at that point also 500m from the Evangelion store Heather mentioned that I never even knew existed. Nick and Matt, you defintely should come here, and Heather and Ranch should come here again. The kanji for the "tai" in hentai means "appearance", so hentai loosly means "strange looking". In its most literal sense, "hentai" refers to transformation or change, so it shows up in scientific contexts describing larval metamorphosis and makes you think of butterflies getting too into fan service-y anime. And to answer the question you didn't know you wanted to ask, the kanji of Ikebukuro translate as "pond bag". Also, Gundam?! Let's fucking gooooo!

Zoe Elise

Love the show, loved animayhem! This episode made me laugh so hard I was crying MULTIPLE TIMES!

Zeon Liberation

Nick is not wrong about our fascination with primates. You used to be able to wrestle orangutans. The orangutan always won though.

Delia

Really bummed to find out that anime is bad, but thank you guys for settling it once and for all.

Randell Flag

Anno was right, anime was a mistake.

Garrett

Nick talking about T P Bon getting pretty brutal reminded me that I just started Go Go Loser Ranger. It somehow had been airing for almost 2 months on Hulu without me realizing. I was hoping it was going to be a dark twist on power rangers, and in the first two episodes I was a bit disappointed. But then in episode 3 someone gets their head straight up crushed, so it is meeting my original expectations. Also, this is in no way a controversial opinion, but fma brotherhood is probably my favorite anime of all time

Clitrocket

Guys I love Jojos bizarre adventure and it getting a shout out on the pod is todays highlight

Will K.

Firstly, absolutely loved this format! Maybe somehow this could be adapted for Get Played? Random Mobile game? Game-demonium?? Secondly, I can't believe y'all missed the biggest ape anime of all time, Dragon Ball.

Geoff Kriz

I had to take a break during Solo Leveling, but I’m back and I’m ready… …what did you guys do while I was gone!?! Did you three actually take one of Dougette’s pitches? You fools! That’s one of the characters you’re not supposed to listen to! 😆

Esteban Flores

I’m here suffering from Covid, and the randomizer lands on this!? I blame you Ranch.

Clitrocket

Ok final one! I got Anime’d ❤️love y’all

Brandt Flowers

Overall really loved Ani-mayhem and I would say it was a great success despite a few real stinker episodes in the mix. With that being said, I have some recommendations for some future podcast material or just to check out when any of you have the free time! 1. Mashle- Very one punch man coded. The main character can't use magic and enrolls to Hogwarts where he solves all his issues by fighting them. 2. Link Click- You guys already did a show based on a South Korean IP, why not try one from China. Two friends work together to "dive" back in time through photos to help clients with all sorts of things. This one is a roller coaster of emotions which will leave you not wanting to stop watching. 3. 86- This one sort of slipped under a lot of people's radars, but this one is fantastic from start to finish. A government reports 0 casualties from a war they have been fighting for many years. That's due to those actually being on the Frontline, or the 86, are the unpure, lowest class group that are forced to fight a losing battle in spider like tanks. Love the show! Keep it rocking!

Buddy Jones

Clockwork Planet reminded me of those animes based on Mobile gatcha games. That’s a side of anime that I have never explored before. I really enjoyed ani-mayhem, but I think Nick has the right idea to just go with the first episode.

clearplastichuman

i would say gears and gear-heavy machinery is my special interest, however this clockwork planet anime feels like it is the my little pony for people that are sexually attracted to gears. no hate if you are, but it is a bit much. also og FMA over FMA Brotherhood all day

Zack Tennenhouse

This whole month really makes me appreciate the fact that Evangelion exists.

LVN

Heather’s “telephone of Rei” comment is an accurate descriptor of an archetype that exists in every mediocre fantasy mech anime ever. There’s usually an Asuka-style tsundere archetype as well. Excited for the Gundam watch along—this particular series has been on my list for a long time, and now I have a reason to move it to the top!

theIncompletionist

AniPilot April leading into AniMaybe It’s Good? Each week a new pilot, the end of the month the community votes, and then y’all watch whatever amount of the series that can be crammed into a month that is just below torture?

H.E. Burrows

Goku is inspired by Sun Wukong and members of the saiyan race are born with monkey tails and have the ability to transform into a giant monkey. The main character in one piece is named monkey? Do we need more proof that people yearn to hear tales of the primate? "Apes are poppin'" might be the truest thing Nick has ever said.

Kayin, the one and only

It's not anime but it's animated: can you please tell everyone to watch Scavengers Reign on Netflix. It's an incredible sci-fi that feels like a cross between Nausicaa-ish fantasy world and French sci-fi graphic novels. It's incredible and was dropped from HBO max, and now Netflix will decide if it gets a new season. Please watch. I feel like it's one of the most important works of sci-fi of maybe the past decade.

William

I watch the first episode of everything that comes out on Crunchyroll and I talk about Clockwork Planet a lot. Specifically there's a bus bench with a spindle with two large exposed gears under it. The other thing is the sucking the finger. When the clock lady is registering the guy as her master she puts his finger in her mouth and I'm expecting it to come out with a symbol on it, but she just sucks off his finger. I only watched one episode so I'm happy to see it keeps being dogshit.

Rachael

I loved AniMAYhem even if the last three anime were complete shit. I would love to see you three do this again but definitely take a break and watch something good in the meantime! I love this podcast so goddamn much. ❤️

GUNDAM 08th TEAM LETS GOOOOOOO

Valencia A. Lopez

Y'all, I think you're completely forgetting about Dragon Ball Z. Saiyans are apes! They have a great ape form and tails! Wiger was right, everything is apes.

Will cline

Kino’s journey is amazing!

Sllew

Not an ape anime, but Cromartie High School has a great anime ape.

XRedGambit

Speed Racer, the Anime of speed has a monkey in it. Not quite ape, but close enough.

All this Godzilla talk got me curious if any of you heard about the new Godzilla/Evangelion crossover action figure being produced by Premium Bandai. It's a dope fusion of the Eva unit-01 and Godzilla and according an article I read the concept behind it was that the "G Cells" dormant within the Eva mecha activated, turning it into a cyborg kaiju. Here's the link if anyone's curious what this rad action figure looks like and wants to learn more: https://www.cbr.com/evangelion-burning-godzilla-bandai-new-toy-figure-release/

I’ve also been collecting the fancy new Vinland saga bound volumes that Heather shouted out, and adore them. I’ve gotten back into collecting manga recently. My manga collection just kind of froze in time about 15 years ago when I started moving around the country for work, and I’m enjoying having the space and resources to return to my love of needless physical media…

Adam Curtis

I am not, in fact, the prolific British documentation Adam Curtis but while considering a career in film I did also seriously consider changing my name to something dissimilar like Clit Rocket. The episode Matt is waiting for is episode 19, Hinokami. I love it so much that sometimes if I'm feeling a little depressed I'll just go watch it to feel amazing.
