So refreshing to see a story in this universe that is not shackled by the need to be a billion dollar blockbuster. What are some other beloved, but stale properties that would benefit from getting the same Anime treatment? Personally, I would love a well-done Matrix Anime series. I know we had the Animatrix, but that was more of an anthology.

beatnikbedlam

totally agree with Nick’s point about the catharsis that comes with being able to keep characters around after losses, i think that’s part of why Utena is so good, it has so much time to explore all its characters. One Piece is the same way, i sometimes see complaints about Oda not wanting to kill people off, but a big part of the charm of the series is that characters you haven’t seen in 500 chapters can come back and surprise you with some of the most satisfying payoffs in fiction

JJK, my hero and demon slayer are all finished that's what I read while waiting for more chainsaw man

I had a lot of similar problems with the last episode as you guys, but there were a few foreshadowed things I noticed and wanted to mention. Regarding freezing the Terminator, in an earlier episode Misaki blasts him point blank with a fire extinguisher and the cold seems to slow him down for a few moments. Also, when Kenta walks by the funhouse mirror and sees an older version of himself it alludes to future Kenta being important (I thought maybe Kenta was Malcolm, but instead he brokers peace). Separate note: is there still a Get Played PO Box? I grabbed a few gacha figures while in Japan with the GP Crew in mind.

I would like to recommend a show called Brave Bang Bravern. It’s the most homo erotic fighting robot magical girl cooking show I’ve ever seen. You gotta see it.

So genuinely pleased that Nick has loved Haikyu. Considering it a candidate for an all-timer after S1 is also cool to hear, and makes me excited to see how he feels after the superior 2nd and 3rd seasons. The shortened-season 3 is dedicated to a single match and it’s the high point of the series as far as I’m concerned. Just stunning animation and emotional beats. God I love it so much! Off to rewatch again I guess!

THANK OUR CYBERMECHANICAL OVERLORDS that we got a kick ass anime to watch this month. Way better than Violet Evergarden. In fact, Terminator should go back to Violet's time in the war and put her abilities to the test - Unwilling Killing Machine vs. Very Willing Killing Machine. A question for the crew, who would win - Violet Evergarden with her metal arms, or a Terminator?

Hahahaha Matt! You’ve quit CSM before the absolute peak! Chapter 178 is insane!

I enjoyed this show overall, it had some fun ideas and themes. But it does get docked a bunch of points for the CGI Terminator, it's lazy and looks like shit. P.S. It's never too late to cover Frieren!

Another recommendation for Matt, or anyone that hasn't read it, is Dorohedoro. It's a great manga and is completed. Great art style and sense of humor, and it will make you crave gyoza! I'm also about half-way caught up with Dandadan and would recommend that as well. It has an anime currently releasing on Netflix and the animation quality is seriously great stuff.

Having seen every Terminator movie and show, The Terminator and Judgment Day are still the only ones you need to watch. Like Alien and Aliens, they are, respectively, truly great sci-fi horror and sci-fi action stories.

LagerB

I haven’t enjoyed Terminator since T2, but maybe that’s just because I hate time travel. I wouldn’t have liked this show, so thank you for giving me an entertaining overview instead!

William Jones

If you all manage to evade the FBI after suggesting a governmental purge, could you please watch Angel Beats? Love the show, hope you make it!

A hot foot is when you light the outside of the shoe on fire. Laces, the heel, the little tab on the back or stick a lit match somewhere on the shoe.

beatnikbedlam

if Matt is still looking for a new manga to dive into, i think Dandadan might actually be the perfect choice. pretty different tone and themes, but they share a lot of the same horror and comedy sensibilities (and the author used to be one of Fujimoto’s assistants!) it isn’t finished yet, but it has about 170 chapters, so there’s quite a bit to get to before you’re caught up

Those Disney workers are 501 engineers. Same union as me. That problem is everywhere 😭

Outside of a few action set pieces, I was fairly blasé about the series as a whole. They should’ve killed one of the kids. Would have maybe made me care more 🤷🏼‍♂️

Loved hearing that Nick is loving Haikyuu because it's one of my all-timers as well. And don't worry, it doesn't lose steam. It only gets better, if anything.

Coy_o_Coy

Strong suspicion that Matt could be extremely into My Hero if he picked that up. It sounds like Matt liked X-Men, and the only way My Hero could be more like X-men is if All Might was bald

XRedGambit

I'm enjoying frieren and even went to the dub because it's good. I just hate that the writing isn't translated with English language but it is if you put it on Japanese on crunchy roll.

Tmacc

I liked this show a lot overall, not a favorite or anything, but I personally found the payoff of the ending pretty good. I agree with Heather, to me it feels like the show is completed. It is "intentionally" left open because of the "open" implications of a new timeline due to time travel. To me, that open ended nature is the point of it, and why it doesn't need a second season. It is self contained, and then free to be a new reality.

Tmacc

Also, I would LOVE it if we did Frieren since so many of the hosts have already been enjoying it, it'd be great to watch along together. I have not seen it, but it's been on my list to watch, so this would give me a great excuse to finally get to it! I'm sure many other listeners would agree.

Ice cold when Eiko just opens fire at the Terminator while he has Kenta over its shoulder. I noticed she was firing an augmented MP5, which makes sense as it has little to no recoil. What I love is that the next scene has her POV aiming down the sights, firing at the Terminator who'd fallen down below. The reticle doesn't budge, displaying its precision when fired. Excellent "show don't tell" moment for those who picked up on that.

Robot House

Uzimaki is gonna be interesting based on what I've heard online about episode 2.

KidKimura

I was really bothered by the way they barely mentioned the kids' mother in these last few episodes. Malcolm briefly mentioned falling in love and having kids, but didn't speak about her at all when telling his story. In the first few episodes her death seemed like this huge important event, and she ended up being reduced down to just a lady who liked cats and theme parks.

ask4seconds

Hey Matt, if you're looking for another manga to jump into that's on the Shonen app, I recommend Black Cat. It's a completed series of 20 vols. with a cool premise indicative to Cowboy Bebop, great character designs, an exciting and fun plot... and it's got cats!!

Regarding iTunes U, MIT and Harvard (probably others too) has free courses online. At least some of them are available on YouTube, or on their websites. I'm going through one from MIT. They have both undergraduate and Graduate level. It's highly recommend if you're interested (MIT let's you download for offline viewing too).

Do Not Resuscitate

I liked "Terminator Zero" for the most part. I enjoyed the action sequences and the trips through the various parts of 1997 alt-retro-futuristic Tokyo, as well as the moral and ethical questions that the characters had to encounter throughout. However, I felt most of the series was spent retreading the same story from the first two films, "A robot chases after kids while a someone from the future tries to save them" with a different coat of paint. The motivations for the time travelers was also confusing and even by the end, it was still confusing as to what was going on. Saving all the plot twists for the end just made the viewing experience even more frustrating because by that point they can't/don't do anything more with them after that. Also, fuck Malcolm, Gendo-ass motherfucker. He spends the entire series avoiding his children for the sake of his "mission". His "redemption" at the end was a shitty run to try and save them, and what should have left me a sobbing mess at his death was instead was just cold and unfeeling.

An idea for a segment when there's no good food shots might be everyone picking their favorite frame of the episode. (frame service?). And an anime you guys would like that's under-appreciated is "the eighty-six". It's a mech anime with politics and action, it's fun enough to be enjoyable, and deep enough for conversation. Heather, in particular, would like it. If she does watch it and doesn't buy a model kit of one of their mechs, I'd be very surprised.

Michael Pemulis

Is Heather watching Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance? Any good?

David Mucci

Having just caught up with the third episode of Dandadan, I’m gonna 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) the suggestion of y’all tackling that next. Big Chainsaw Man energy to it, and you might be able to catch up to it weekly!

Doc Robot

Junji Ito is impossible to adapt but I'm happy to have a reason to watch this bc I wouldn't otherwise. Also all in as a Dandadan manga reader from before the viz translation for you guys to cover the show after Uzumaki.

Murphy

2027? Just cover Frieren.

Will K.

Would you guys review the new Gundam show on Netflix as an anime or a game because the animation looks like a subpar PS4 game

Andrew Olson

I’m calmly requesting for y’all to watch Madoka.

Will K.

I also wished for no more news movies, videogames, and TV shows back in 2019, then look what happened...
