Coy_o_Coy

Watched this on a plane on my iPad. Got some looks.

Uh oh This'll be good

Hello everyone just wanted to ask the crew and the commenters if they have a Junji Ito story or image that is stuck in your head and sometimes wish you could remove from your memories. I’ll go first from the story “Glyceride” the image of the brother over his sister squeezing his face and stringy white heads are pouring onto the sister’s face will haunt me forever. Also Dandadan will be the show of the season with what I’ve seen so far.

Numlocks

This was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

ryan mcgrath

Well, at least they’re getting to watch good anime on their own time.

David Mucci

I know Nick will have a lot to say for the Get Plate segment when they get to episode 4

Murphy

Saw the title and my face fell 😔

My first exposure to Junji Ito was stumbling across a fan translation of “The Enigma of Amigara Fault” on Reddit probably 20 years ago while I was in high school. In the comments someone linked to an Imgur page that was a fan translation of the entirety of Uzumaki. I distinctly remember the feeling of not being able to stop reading. It absolutely boiled my teenage brain, I felt like I had had stumbled on some sort of forbidden media. Real haunted “Link to the Past” cartridge shit. I was genuinely relieved when Junji Ito hit the mainstream years later. I’ve come to love Junji Ito now. He’s an absolute master of “100 variations on a theme.” Like ‘what if a town is haunted by spirals,” or “what if fish had fart powered robot legs.” Lastly, he has come close to “Pudding man” with “Ice Cream Bus.”

After two weeks of freebasing Bad Spirals here they really should watch some Gurren Lagann and detox with Good Spirals.

Murphy

I’ll say, all the bad interactions I’ve had with My Hero fans have been dude-bros who hate that queer and trans fans. Typical loud losers, not really indicative of the entire fandom.

Bobson Dugnutt

love how Yorika and Kaunori stretch out and distort their bodies, wrapping around each other into some wildly grotesque elongated spiral, and then Yoriko's Dad says "hang on, I'll get you out"

Bobson Dugnutt

Suggestion for the comments section: You-zu-talkin' ma-ki?

Do you guys also think that this would’ve just made a better movie? The pacing for the show could have been forgivable if the animation didn’t drop off so bad, but I think that could’ve been avoided all together if they were just given a solid 2 hours and change to tell this story. So bummed about how this unfolding so far.

"In Defense of Bullying: Sequence Breaking this Existence, and Other Stories Concerning Gas Masks and S'mores Cereal" by Heather Anne Campbell

Rin Manzano

Speaking of animation dips, Blue Lock Season 2 just premiered and- what a bummer.

Doc Robot

I hear the last two aren't as bad as episode 2, hoping they have a little of the ep 1 magic! People heavy recommended Dandadan and there was a rec for Dorohedoro, both great, but they left off some other great repeated D sound manga: Dai Dark: a dark fantasy comedy about Zaha Sanko one of the Four Little Shits whose bones can grant you any wish! Also bones are their money! Yay! Bones for me! Dead Dead Demon's DeDeDeDe Destruction: a boring apocalypse descends as best friends Kadode and Ontan come of age and encourage each other to be worse. This has a decent anime but the manga is better!

ask4seconds

There is some twisted, nasty, shit happing in this town. If I lived there, I would have left as quick as the budget disappeared after episode 1.

DAN DA DAN... More like DAMN DA DAMN! (the grandma is smokin' hot) That show is cool and you should review it next

Sid Tovar

I've watched the whole series at this point. Beyond a couple of meme-able moments, I did not find the drop in quality to be very noticeable. I think they wisely de-prioritized certain moments for the benefit of others and found the horror extremely effective in the series

Kris Burt

Absolutely second Dan da Dan and dorohedoro! Can't recommend them enough, the dhd animation is kinda funky and not to everyone's taste but the story is great imo.

mahoney's famous bones

I'm one of the weirdos who listens despite not watching (most of) the shows, but Colin Stetson is a box office draw to me. He's a genius and also kind of a freak athlete in his way ha. Any sax appreciators, Wiger included, should check him out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tmwtIcBjVs

Joe M

The dip in animation quality was so disappointing it makes me want to go back and rewatch the live action Uzumaki film from 2000, which is also disappointing in a funny, familiar way

XRedGambit

I watched both episodes and didn't notice a dip in quality. Maybe I subconsciously thought it was part of the horror aspect to go from great animation to bad. Or else maybe I'm just bad at noticing things. I do agree with Matt's takes on this episode though.

Robot House

My introduction to Junji was of all things Keroro Gunso/Sgt Frog a gag comic about very dumb alien frogs and the humans that defeated them with the allure of gunpla . It was a one off joke in the typical "scary stories but not really "gag format where a chat calls themselves Cosmic Junji. This lead to a Google search and I found Amigara fault. Which is uh. Not a gag manga

The Mountain That Abides

It's me again, your resident King of the Hill fan. Woodrow White did some KotH/Junji Ito crossover art that you have to check out. It's all great, but nothing beats Boomhauer yelling, "Dang ol' hole made for me, yo. THIS IS MY DANG OL' HOLE!"

Luke Lamar

help! I've started listening to the podcast in a spiral. *cocks gun* this is a mercy

Grant Prusi

I took a chance and bought paperback vols 1-11 of Chainsaw Man based off this pods recommendation before the show came out. I’ve been buying the new volumes as they release, but I haven’t read any of them yet since I know I’ll just plow through them in a day or two.

Garrett MacFalda

I'm so glad these guys watched this show so I don't have to, this seems mad gross.

Fish

I've never read Uzumaki so I don't know whether it was being captivated by the spirals and the story of it or being tired and eating food while also reading subtitles but I completely missed the quality drop in episode two. i will say that since watching the episodes I have the spiral images burned into my mind, wild and grotesque. the image of the eyeball spiraling into nothing will haunt me forever

darcyleegray

i have every single English Junji Ito manga/artbook/book that has ever come out! 🥹 i had to buy a second book case 😅

Deandre Gibson

So it sounds like it got the blue lock season 2 treatment
