Not all of Australia was destroyed in space colony drop, it landed on Sydney, New South Wales, taking a 500 km wide chunk out of the coast. Only felt the need to clarify because as someone born and raised in Sydney it was fucking wild to see my home town randomly obliterated. Whoever on the Gundam writing staff had it out for Sydney... I don't blame you, this place stinks but also wtf.

This is the longest cutscene I've ever watched, but because there's big giant robots that do fighting, I'm still gonna watch the rest of it. Any time a human being is on screen detracts from how good the show is, but that's fine, because mecha fucking rule.

Definitely enjoying it so far. The mech battles look fantastic while the human closeups remind me a bit of Polar Express. The Gundam is terrifying. My current theory is that the Gundam pilot recognized her as a musician and is a fan. You’re all doing a great job and I hope you have a nice day :)

This is my 2nd UC gundam show after 08th ms, and I really appreciate the extra context heather gives. I will say as a huge iron blooded orphans fan I can't wait for heather to get to it. Anyway requiem for vengeance was way cooler than I expected! The art is definitely hit and miss for me, but I like the characters so far.

Am I insane for kinda liking this better than The 08th MS Team so far? We’ll see over the next few weeks if it sustains itself as well, but I’m liking it pretty much any time it doesn’t show the human faces. And the discussion of it on the pod is helping 08th MS Team grow in my esteem.

Yay a positive take on this show! I could see it going either way, but I’m glad y’all enjoyed it too. It’s a good one for Gundam fans, but I can definitely empathize for how difficult it would be for newcomers. But I suffered through MS Igloo, so my tolerance for cg has already been tested.

With 3d shows i usually listen to a little bit of every available dub to see what hits hardest. English dub wasn't working for me, but neither was the JP dub. Once I got to the German dub, I left it on. Watch at least one episode in German!

I mostly liked this show. The reveal of the gundam was awesome, should of had a terminator music sting when it shows up. I like the slasher vibe. Overall I am down the middle on it. Two recommendations for this up coming year. Tengoku Daimakyo (Heavenly Delusion) and Deca-dence.

When I saw Solari I immediately thought she was Commander Shepard from Mass Effect. "I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite Gundam on the citadel."

I enjoyed the show overall, but having the facial expressions and lip flap animated in Unreal Engine took me out of it more than I would have liked. It’s fine for video games, but when I’m watching a professionally produced tv / streaming series, it comes off as cheap-looking. Not a knock against the animators, just a limitation of the style. I did like the show enough to preorder the HG Gundam EX gunpla, though!

Me listening to Heather enthusiastically explain Gundam: "This is dope. This is the best franchise in the world." Me watching Gundam: "Who is anyone and why is any of this happening?" I'm going to try again with the Japanese track, because the English one was NOT GOOD, but man. I get the sense that this could be very much for me, but every time I dabble in Gundam I'm feeling so much friction.

Just based on the animation of the humans, and then hearing their corny dialogue, I almost stopped watching this show. I'm glad I didn't. I switched to Japanese language, for episode two, and really enjoyed this. The horror thriller tone of these first episodes is a lot of fun and the Michael Myers Gundam is a great villain.

I’m liking it overall. But it is like watching one never ending video game cutscene. The mouth movements especially contribute to this. Sometimes a scene will end and my mind goes “Oh, this is prob where I get to play” and I subconsciously look for my controller

Heather, have you read The Battle Tales of Flanagan Boone? It's very similar to this, Zeon focused, White Devil haunting the narrative, it even takes place around the same time period. I'd love to hear everyone's reactions to some of the absolutely horrifying splash pages the manga has to offer

If we are supposed to root for Zeon, why do they make the Feds Gundam so badass? Though it was very slasher coded with it not killing the main character a few times by getting distracted when he would just tear through everyone else.

re: Nick's Jaleel White story -- that beer, Pilsner Urquell is the first pale lager and was created in Plzen, Czech Republic. All other pilsner beers that we enjoy are derivatives of it! It's also absolutely delicious. Also hoping y'all eventually check out Death Note - it's a keystone 2000s anime and is just one season split into two parts, with lots of bonkers shit happening every episode.

Two thoughts: 1) Haley looks so out of place compared to every other soldier I thought she was some kind of mercenary for hire. 2) Re: Nick’s prediction something horrible will happen to the Captain because she is a violinist. My thought: an explosion or head trauma causes her to go deaf and all she is left with is that ringing in her ears which warned her danger was approaching.

Heather mentions not knowing if a gundam has ever purposely squashed a regular guy at around 1:10:30. Fun fact, in The Witch from Mercury, [minor spoiler alert] gundam Ariel open palm slaps a soldier about to shoot Miorine. He subsequently wins 1st place in a popped ketchup packet look-a-like contest.

I'm not a huge Gundam guy, but I've enjoyed what we've watched on the podcast well enough. However, listening to the enthusiasm and joy in Heather's voice when talking about this universe is so peak for me. I love listening to someone who is so knowledgable and passionate about a piece of media gush over it. She makes watching these series (that I'm not super innately interest in) 10x better for me, especially when she explains the setting, context, and consequences of the shows within the overall universe. Kudos to Heather!

i was originally going to watch this two episodes at a time like you are, but after the first two episodes I couldn't help but watch the rest of the show. it's so fucking good! there's still a few times through that the ps3 humans take me out of what's going on but everything else looks absolutely stunning

This story is so interesting so far, I love that they end episodes with a cliffhanger. I just wish the show didn't look like an in engine cutscene for a 10 year old game because they try to have emotional beats of characters looking at each other, but it doesn't really work because everyone has a plastic barbie face. At least when they were in the mechs that part looked very cool

Dandandan! I also started watching due to a fellow listener’s recommendation. Feels like the next generation FLCL. Love it. The opening song is amazing. Love all y’all’s crocs too. I’m working my way through an erratic Universal Century and I love all Gundam, apparently even in uncanny valley animation styles

Dandadan is my anime of the season it's so amazing to watch on screen and how it's translating the manga so we'll. Also because of reading the manga I'm getting hyped for certain scenes being animated. I have a hard time keeping up with all the new anime out but I stay up to date on DDD.
