Nick entering his GILF era

Dynamite In The Brain

If it's any consolation to Nick, in the UK the similar PMSL (pissing myself laughing) did take off as a fun acronym to overstate your mild amusement online.

When fans ship characters in shows nowadays they'll often do a name mash up. So my question is, which is the better ship name for the X Files if it came out today? Mully or Sculder? I'm Sculder Squad for sure.

This was a great episode, had me pmpl’ing. Love when y’all do gundam.

The trick to liking this show is to watch it while playing Pokémon pocket and only look up during the action scenes. The voice acting is good and stands out if you’re not watching. If you do that, it’s a pretty great show. As for next week’s eps (5&6), I don’t know much about Gundam but, from what I do know, that was a Gundam ending. This show has now made me start Gundam from the beginning, for the first time. I’m 20 eps into OG mobile suit Gundam. What have you done to me HAC. As for Nick wanting more grandmas, keep reading the manga. It won’t let you down.

Looper is my favorite example of “also there are psychics, nbd”. Its a great detail of it being such a shitty, low-rent near future that they mention 10% of the population manifested extremely weak psychokinesis at some point, nothing really came of it, nobody cares that you can make a quarter float. May or may not come up later in the movie. Looper’s great.

Dandadan makes me remember what I loved about anime. The story is great, the characters are so fun and have these emotions I relate to and it's funny scary and emotional all at once. It really gets my writers mind a rush of endorphins when I watch.

I was distracted by the building montage music as well, but not for its similarity to the Monday night football theme, but because the bass and drums are almost identical to the Nine Inch Nails instrumental “Just Like You Imagined,” aka the song in the 300 trailer. It’s so alike I thought it was the actual track at first, then I thought it was a cover, and then the football horns came in and I was absolutely confused. Also I immediately went online to see if I could buy the scrapyard Zaku as a model kit, but it’s only available as an action figure as of now.

I've made peace with style of the show and am just enjoying the fantastic action. Nick mentioned the new grandma era but we can't leave out that both of the Gundam shows we watched have had great old uncle mechanic characters! Both seem largely apolitical to their sides ideologies and are just there to fix mechs and tell everybody to keep their head down. Cheers to them!

I have limited to no engineering skills, and am afraid of heights, but if anyone's interested in building a few fully functional Gundams, and piloting them to the Capitol building, sometime during the first week of January, for parody purposes only, please contact me here. Horned helmet and homemade bodyarmor owners need not apply.

Part of the theme music really reminds me of the Transformers theme music. Anyone else hear it?

Mully and Sculder! PMPL! For some reason, I don't like that Wiger used AIM

I, too, think of the podcast every time I crack an egg.

clearplastichuman

Off topic, but have you guys seen what happened to Jay Leno? The man is like a cat with 9 lives. Meow.

Similar to Heather's Gundam Crocs, recently my girlfriend and I made a guy at the store's day by recognizing his Char leather jacket. He said he got it working in Japan but we were the first Americans to clock it.

Meant to post this last week but Heather mentioned not recalling a time in Gundam when a mobile suit directly attacked a suitless human. Trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible, but that’s a huge plot turn in the Witch From Mercury and is the start of a dramatic violent tone shift of the show. It’s rad!

Big Chunk of the fanbase

Was the 1 year war started knowing it would only be one year? Cuz heathers newsreel essentially implies that and I find it incredibly funny that these two groups came together and just said “we only get one year to beat the shit out of each other”

S

Nick is right and he should say it!! more grandma content!!

DebrafromHR

Heather what are your top Gundam opening songs if you have any

XRedGambit

Saw the titos vodka and it didn't have the correct bottle shape. Worst anime I have ever seen 0/2.

beatnikbedlam

just need to say that Heather’s war reports are incredible 👍

H.E. Burrows

I bought my first gunpla kit the other week but it's been sitting on my desk unassembled because I'm paralysed with anxiety about having to put the stickers on. I KNOW my dumb ass is going to fuck it up. I also love heather's old timey wartime report.

This show is perhaps the best argument for why motion capture is important, all I can see when the human characters run is Woody and Buzz from the original Toy Story! 😂

Andy Hunter

I agree with all comments about the stiffness of the human characters. I think it would have looked better had they gone for more of a CGI-anime aesthetic, like Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth.

VHSMIA

I dig the jankyness of the Unreal engine. Bad CG feels like a style at this point. Early 2000s/2010s nostalgia.

This show has been so good I've decided to check out the rest of the Gundam series on Netflix - which there is a lot of. So much technology has changed since the 1981 Gundam movie, but the story is so strong and interesting it doesn't make a difference to the overall quality of the show. No wonder Heather loves this series so much. #PutGundamInFortnite

Fish

it's bugged me ever since watching the show, but if they want to steal one of the GM to study would it not be easier to drag the defeated GM over and look at it rather than risk their lives to get a slightly less damaged one?

Sexy Grandma's Retirement Home

I would LOVE for you guys to cover Arcane on the podcast. Season 1 is damn near perfect in my opinion and season 2 is wrapping up this weekend so it's kind of the perfect time for you all to dive in.

Tmacc

I'm not a huge Gundam guy, but I've enjoyed what we've watched on the podcast well enough. However, listening to the enthusiasm and joy in Heather's voice when talking about this universe is so peak for me. I love listening to someone who is so knowledgable and passionate about a piece of media gush over it. She makes watching these series (that I'm not super innately interest in) 10x better for me, especially when she explains the setting, context, and consequences of the shows within the overall universe. Kudos to Heather!

That Josh

1. The trio should cover Arcane. Great show and video game adjacent even if it’s not anime itself. 2. I’d like to imagine Gundam with the Arcane art style. It’s visceral but stylish. Can feel the punches while a beam weapon would look super vibrant. Allows for better emoting too.

SchniedelWutz

I never saw anything Gundam related before this, but I felt a little left behind listening to the pod. So I spend the last two days on the Gundam wiki and YouTube channels with like 20 subscribers to get caught up at least on the universal century time line. It was fascinating and I'm glad I did it, but I would never watch any of those shows because if I started I probably wouldn't finish until my newborn daughter goes to college.

jbuck2112

I don't hear the Football music comparison at all I actually rewound that scene twice just to listen to that banger-ass montage music. Ol' Doublereed's got it all wrong on this one.

Adolfo Gonzalez

I know Heather compared Zeon’s war for independence to the American Revolution but I think maps closer to the Texas Revolution. A bunch of colonists who don’t like how the government is run revolt and turn out to be fascist. The main reason Texas wanted independence from Mexico so they can keep their slaves since slavery was abolished in Mexico in 1821. Sam Houston is Char
