This is the first time I’m gonna listen to the pod without having watched the material. You can’t make me do this.

Alex Chosid

This show is so well animated that it makes the other Netflix shows look like they’re made from chalk on a mud tablet. Looking at you, Terminator. I don’t get the negative response to this sweet, sad show. I dig it.

Rory McDaid

I disliked the tv series… stunningly animated, sure, but…. Just didn’t do anything for me. I have a suspicion I’d hate these movies and can’t face watching them, so will enjoy listening to the Pod and presumably hear Heather’s frustration at having to watch these films. Dislike the series, love you guys discussing it.

Mr. Lucy

I liked the series overall. This movie however? I fell asleep like four times! Must have missed at least 40 minutes. No I did not go back to see what I missed.

Zack Tennenhouse

Nick gets it! Not a lot happens in Violet Evergarden, I totally understand being bored by it, but it's just very cozy. It's a hard one to recommend because it's definitely not for everyone, but I think if it is for you it will be very much for you. Everyone I know IRL who has seen it absolutely loves it, so I've been really surprised by the reception both on the show and here in the Patreon community.

Violet Evergarden is like scuba diving. You're abruptly immersed in a stunningly beautiful environment and you can't imagine not staying there forever. But, with each passing moment, the air gets thinner, and your blood gets colder, and the once beautiful world seems like it will crush you and your soul and you can't wait to get to the surface and back onto the boat and get the hell back to land to take a hot shower and then do a crossword puzzle while listening to a podcast in your hotel room where you don't have to think about the ocean again until enough time has passed that someone easily talks you into the idea that diving together was a great experience and you should do it again and you agree because you're getting older and more forgetful and also more spineless so you agree and have a bad time and pout like a child while swearing you'll never go into the ocean again, even if somebody you really care about really wants to do it again. But come on, who are you kidding?

Heather talking about this movie is like that one scene in Wet Hot American Summer where Paul Rudd keeps sighing before doing his chores

1000 pieces.

What a delightful Christmas treat. The podcast of course, not Violet Evergarden. Violet Evergarden is the vegetables you eat so you can get to the ice cream of the podcast, and I've decided I don't want any damn vegetables.

Huge Kawajiri fan, and DCS absolutely falls into that stew of his lesser works… I love the bleeding cool character designs, and the boss battles, but it definitely feels like a mashup of a sub-par lite novel series. Love Me some Goku midnight eye, and Cyber city Oedo 808

Andrew Ingram

Should we view Violet Evergarden more as an anthology series? Twilight Zone had no recurring protagonist, no over arching plot but also had a series and a movie. VE is like TZ but for beauty instead of horror.

A brief note on the get plate. My mom loves cooking from 60/70’s cookbooks and went on an aspic kick a few years back. It is one of the nastiest things I’ve ever been served, and the biggest problem was *she loved it* and made more. I had to be the one to break her heart and tell her stop.

Andy Hunter

I don’t remember being as down on Violet Evergarden as Heather had been, but watching this movie, I couldn’t help but think of the Homer Simpson quote, “That’s just a bunch of stuff that happened!”

Joshua Laguna

Hahaha the ending of the pod made me literally lol

Old Man Kate

I’m choking this movie down so I have context for the conversation. I’m 1/3 through and have set a new record for eye rolls. Sis….sister? Sister!

clearplastichuman

The movie sucked so much these guys started balancing books on their heads lol

David Mucci

I’m surprised that I liked this movie quite a bit more than the TV series. Maybe some time away made me glad to go back to its world.

Andrew Ingram

I think y’all should watch S2 of Blue Lock. The writing and sound is still good, and honestly I didn’t really notice the animation quality lag. It’s always been a mix of hand drawn and 3D anyway. Maybe I just filled in my head where there wasn’t movement, but I really enjoyed it.

Blake

I might experiment with watching something at x1.5 speed for the first time with next week’s movie. A true psycho move, but it’s so slow.

If you’re cutting a lot of little tomatoes do you know the plate trick? Take two plates turn one upside down. Put all the tomatoes in the ring put the other plate face up for the two undersides match up and there is a gap. Take a long knife. And slide it through the gap cutting all the little tomatoes. Boom! Lots of cut tomatoes. https://s3.amazonaws.com/yummy_uploads2/blog/6930.jpg

I didn’t think this was different enough to justify its existence but it was OK. I got so excited to see Roland, though, that I joyfully yelled “SANTA!!!” My wife was sitting upstairs and was extremely confused by this. Explaining it didn’t make it better.
