I enjoy Frieren because it's just her having to remind motherfuckers that she is very good at magic. Also 1027 pieces, I don't know if Goku could hack it in the new world.

Arthur Newman

Movie starts with connecting to the little girl losing her mom when she was 8. Then my dad calls to check in during the Lucas and Urus telephone moment with tears running down my face. One of the best new year mornings iv had in awhile. Thank you guys for covering the movie. I guess I’ll watch “dance like you want to win” to level out my emotions lol

Sexy Grandma's Retirement Home

It's funny that Heather brought up Garden of Words because I felt the relationship in that movie was inappropriate and totally missed it in Violet Evergarden. Probably couldn't see it through all the tears. Both movies are visually beautiful though.

crystalhearts

oh yuck. bleh. insane that this is well-regarded when it's just straightforward pedophile apologia

David Mucci

I really appreciated Heather calling out the tendency to view opinions on art and entertainment as right or wrong and her saying that people aren’t “wrong” for liking this movie. Like what you like, dislike what you dislike, and let’s stop making moral judgments on people based on how they feel about a work of art or entertainment. And I say this as someone who didn’t even like this movie! It was boring and too damn long!

SchniedelWutz

The only acceptable ending of this movie, would've been a relapsing Violet who ripped out the majors fucking throat

SchniedelWutz

I watched this show when it came out in my early twenties and remembered it for looking absolutely beautiful and for not overly sexualising the female characters (for an anime). Being now in my 30s and a father of a daughter I realise it's so fucking worse. They not only sexualise, but they infantilise especially Violet. My re-evaluation of this anime is, that it should not be watched.

This movie is so bad it makes you re-evalute the series (which I actually quite liked). The series asks how and when you move on when you never actually have closure, which is super interesting. And then the movie undoes it for a cliche romance story with a groomer.

Dabinsk

Best pedophile movie I’ve ever seen. Also the only pedophile movie I’ve ever seen.

Bernardo

Glad I only watched the TV show. Every time I hear Heather tell one of her stories all I can think “The most interesting person in the world.”

Old Man Kate

Part way through I switched to 1.5x and I still thought it stole too much of my life. The slow pacing only serves to setup unearned dramatic moments.

Nick Barbella

My gf still doesn't let me listen to this podcast while on road trips because "they take so long to get to the point" and "anime is weird". I've started playing the pod while she sleeps to acclimate her to Nick's voice. Results pending... night terrors unrelated

Tim Huff

It just feels like the series/movies are more interested in trying to make you cry than trying to tell a compelling story. It sometimes feels manipulative like the author is thinking "hmm let's see - let's throw a dying kid in here." Whereas a show like Frieren is so much better at invoking true emotional impact in a more subtle and earned way.

I think Eternity was my favorite piece of VEG media. This was my least favorite. That Groomer should have just been dead. The romance buried with him.

Kevin Stanley

I think my issue with the series as a whole in retrospect, is so much of it feels like tragedy pornography. The stories in the series and movies are these escalating timeline of sad events designed to elicit tears and emotion in the viewer and that's it.

Rin Manzano

Blue Lock Season 2 just wrapped up and, as someone who criticized the animation dip on this show before, in this season the voice acting and music design carried the season HARD and was, in the end, an overall pleasure to watch

Zeon Liberation

Fun fact! Sunflowers can actually absorb certain radiation and heavy metals from soil. Which is why there are a bunch around Chernobyl

Zeon Liberation

Frieren manga is so good. Bad news though the manga is indefinitely on hiatus

That Josh

I consistently see Violet as the Matt Damon character in Team America: World Police. … vIoLeT eVeRgArDeN

Hey Get Played team! Love the pod. Would it be possible for the 'what you've weebing' suggestions from each host are in the descriptions of each episode? I know it's extra legwork, but I listen while driving and you guys have such good suggestions I always want to go go back to them. Thanks again for all the hard work, and happy new year!

Grant Prusi

I overall like the series, but don’t think it’s as good as its reputation. The violet and major stuff didn’t do much for me and actively bothered me this movie, but I absolutely LOVE the world building. I’m fascinated with early 20th century and evolving technology and this movie hit that sweet spot for me. I also liked the framing device but wish it was a little more substantive. I’m also ok with Santa Roland delivering presents at Thanksgiving in this universe, because “Jingle Bells” was allegedly written as a Thanksgiving song in our universe.

chickenscratchj

I can't believe so much effort was made to make something that really is so beautiful to watch but at the same time sucks so much. Just so boring and repetitive. Add in the groomer stuff and it definitely left me feeling real gross at the end of it all. Totally not worth the time I spent on it.

Lark

It’s nice to finish all of Violet Evergarden so I can say it’s pretty but mid and I never have to think about it again. Now onto something new!

Pete Ficken

Is this movie considered full on VE fan service? I’m glad I’m one of the listeners and not watchers… That said, I felt similarly frustrated with the second half of The Girl From The Other Side, with less gross preddie stuff

parenthesesONE

We could have done a gundam movie instead of this

Jug of yabbo sweat

Heather was too nice. The series starts and ends with the grooming part. The arranged marriage could be overlooked as a period peice but there's no excuse for the major grooming a child and then gets a happy ending.
