Me and my brother were so furious, when our dad got rid of our basketball hoop on our childhood backyard. We were both in our 30s.

There is a German YouTuber who reenacts popular plays with Playmobil (worse Lego idk if it's known outside of Germany) a couple of years ago he did the whole fucking bible and he made god genderless, which is pretty difficult in German. that dude is awesome.

Mark Z Danielewski is a genius, Ranch is rad as hell. House of Leaves is one of the first ARGs - a layered story ultimately about a spooky house, filmed by a man going through relationship struggles, recounted by a blind man who is described the film by volunteers, written down and collected by a shit head tattoo who is going through the notes now that the blind man is dead and the film is unfindable.

I don't remember if this has come up yet on the podcast, but many of the characters in Dandadan are based on real Yokai or urban legends. Turbo Granny comes from Turbo Bachan (who is also in Mob Psycho 100) and Acrobatic Silky is based on Acrobatic Sarasara. Also when they were arguing over sushi Seiko was telling the mantis shrimp dude to stick to the cucumber rolls. This is because in Japanese folklore kappa love cucumbers, which is why cucumber rolls are called kappamaki.

Have you all heard of the ongoing anime orb: on the movements of earth? It’s about heliocentrism vs the church orthodoxy in the 15th century and has been fascinating. It encapsulates what I love about anime, taking a seemingly mundane premise or out of nowhere premise, but injecting it with action, suspense, thrills and heart. One of the best currently airing shows and would highly recommend!

Hearing Heather's thoughts on Solo Leveling Season 2 really makes me want to hear everyone's Attack on Titan takes. I have complicated feelings on some of the ending, but pound for pound it's some of the best violence meets empathy storytelling I've seen in both live action and anime. Really rewards your attention imo, but mostly I just love hearing people talk about it even if they hate it.

Kinda funny, but the whole ‘naked in public’ dream thing used to be stressful, but after working in my anxiety for a lifetime I rarely get scared or anxious in dreams anymore. So when I have a ‘naked in public’ dream I’m able to shrug it off in my dream and say, ‘how weird, but I got shit to do and can troubleshoot this.’

You guys have to cover Hi Score Girl! It’s the perfect blend of Get Played and Get Animed!!

Zeon Liberation

Oh man! Peter Serafinowicz is so good. He was perfect casting as The Tick. That show deserved 10 seasons.

The first part of Death Note is so dense with plot movement and theatrics, the breakneck pace really made other anime of the era feel slow in comparison. Would love to hear the gang's impressions if they end up watching/rewatching some of those episodes.

Ronny

Dandadan may have aliens, ghosts and superpowers, but the most unrealistic part is that there were no high school guys immediately congratulating and giving Okkarun high fives after seeing him naked with Momo

REQUEST! Could you please post the Get Plate images to the accompanying Instagram post when the new episode comes out? I would love to see these food shots you're commenting on!

I produce an entomology podcast where each episode we make a new character inspired by a bug. We did a mantis shrimp episode last summer. Fun fact: they don’t have blood vessels so the blood just sloshes around in there. It’s an “open circulatory system”. Do you think you would recognize your blood by taste?

I have to know what Nick thought of MCR's The Black Parade after listening on his way home.

Do Not Resuscitate

Caught up on "Sakamoto Days" after Nick's recommendation, and absolutely loving it! This show definitely seems like something right up Heather's alley with the just the right mix of action, violence, and great absurd character development. Probably the best selling point I could give it is that it's what would happen if John Wick ran a 7/11. Perfect show to do next after Dandadan!

Also played piano growing up and always insisted on playing the fun stuff I liked — my favorite recital was when I played “Aerith’s Theme,” introducing my parents and grandparents to the wonder of Nobuo Uematsu

I don't know about an anime, but "the brick testament" (aka the brick bible) has every verse of the bible enacted by legos. It's a hell of a thing. Look it up.

The scene in episode 10 with Momo getting interrogated by her friends was a reference to Furuhata Ninzaburō, a detective show from the 90’s that’s kind of like a Japanese Columbo.

MCR RULEZ!!!!!!!!! All of their albums r fire, but you should really listen to them in order, starting with 3 Cheers, then black parade, then danger days. Also they r concept albums, so listening to them in order from front to back in 1 sitting is optimal. The band also loves anime, and the lead singer writes comic books, including Umbrella Academy. There are alot of anime fights set to MCR music online, which hypes up everyone.

i REALLY need an update next week about how Nick felt about MCR. i think he might actually click with Three Cheers more given his love of metal, but Black Parade is a classic too. they were my favorite band in high school and i think they totally hold up. Fall Out Boy’s From Under the Cork Tree and Panic at the Disco’s A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out are still pretty great too

Just so cool how the show off handedly explains the whole alien obsession with cows, which has been referred to in the opening credits from the start. It's a reference to "cattle mutilation", which is a lot less cow friendly than in the show, but still.

Matt I also just watched Ninja Scroll for the first time with the recent blu ray release! If you get a chance to watch it on a CRT do it. There is just something about these older anime that just pops on the screens of the era! I also have a similar anime story to Heather's. But mine was an ova vhs called Wrath of the Ninja that my neighbor had and very similar to Ninja Scroll it was full of violence and bad english dubbing. Holds a special place in my heart as the first anime I watched at like 7 years old. I think the whole thing is uploaded to YouTube for anyone interested in checking it out!

When I was about 10, I watched Austin Powers 1 and 2 at a friend's house and thought they were hilarious, even though I didn't get some of the jokes. I borrowed the AP2 DVD and brought it to my family's Easter celebration, where we always watch a movie in the afternoon, and suggested we watch it. The movie quickly opens with a robot shooting bullets out of its boobs, references to a penis pump, and the introduction of the characters Ivana Humpalot and Felicity Shagwell, among other things. My extended family had no idea what was going on and were horrified, it was soon turned off, my parents were embarrassed, and Easter was ruined. However, I did watch it with my parents later and they found it pretty funny, after they realized it wasn't porn.

I'd LOVE if we watched Deathnote together on the podcast. One of my favorite animes and mangas, and there is so much philosophically to discuss from it. I'd love to hear Heather's deep dives on the series, and the boys would be so into it. Maybe could do 3 episodes a week just to get through it faster, since that's still not longer than when we watch like, a movie for the cast. I think everyone would have a blast with that show, it's such a classic.

As someone about to quit my job so I can attempt a career as an author (wish me luck), Dandadan is the kind of madcap, genre defying nonsense that I aspire to write

Yall I'm a new comer to anime in general. My wife has watched for years so I've checked out a number of her recommendations and bounced off quite a few very popular shows (which i won't name here for fear of having a wrong opinion). But God damn, I've been on a heater lately... I binged Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (10/10, came for the anime titties and stayed for the hypest shit I've ever seen in my life) and followed that up with DanDaDan, which was ANOTHER 10/10 in my book. Just came to say I think I'm an anime fan now and thanks for the recs!

Re: Solo Leveling, if you aren't capable of great violence you aren't a pacifist you're just harmless. There is nothing immoral about exerting great violence on someone or something that is actively trying to destroy you. Now is it ok to exert great violence on someone trying to destroy you and then trap their soul in a shadow bound to your will for all eternity? Tune in next time to Solo Leveling to find out!

I am absolutely loving all the Ultraman references just jam packed into this show! From the aliens riffing on the DaDa, the way the boxing alien starts off as a Kanegon then goes full Baltan! Even the opening credits have the tell-tale colorful creature silhouettes of the Ultraman opening credits. Love it! (That is a command)

I originally started Get Animed cause 08th MS Team has long been one of my all time favs, and have been enjoying just listening to the gang talk through other shows. But after listening to all these eps on Dandadan, it sounded so fun I just binged the whole thing this weekend! So fun, can't wait for season 2.

I would love if you guys covered Friren: Beyond Journey's End but be aware the first 4 episodes should be watched as one chunk
