Is it morning already? I don't want to go to work.

Might wanna relook at the sound on this one a couple silent moments. These jokes? they didn't come as so. Love the episode though

Leeron is the smartest person in the universe…and I think that might be canon.

A few errors on the episode. At the beginning after the intro song there is a minute of silence. Also during the godzilla conversation the music that summons mothra that I played over the talking then has like 30 seconds of silence where the music should be.

Just watched Gertie the Dinosaurus for the first time. Holds up, Gertie’s got jokes. Also, rad that the first ever animation is basically a century old Kaiju anime.

SoZettaSlow

Good ep! I think Ranch's audio was desynched, though. There were a couple laughs that were like 20 seconds later than the joke, there was a long period of silence in the beginning after the opening, and the sting towards the end happened in the middle of everyone talking. Also, someone already said it, but the Mothra song completely played while Nick was talking about it, and they reacted to silence after. Not complaining! I enjoyed it, just wanted to give specifics in case someone goes back to fix the audio

When Gurren and Lagann combine, since Gurren's face becomes the torso, does that mean the sunglasses are now a bra? And are the eyes boobies? It's philosophical themes like this that really elevate anime as an art form.

MK

It's so awesome to see Simon come into his own. But I gotta shout out the real hero of these two episodes, Nameless Old Man from the bath house! He comes out of nowhere to save Nia twice and then disappears both times. Who the hell is this ancient ninja?!

Nick, as a Godzilla guy myself, it’s a wonderful journey watching all of them. I’ll once again say I would love a KaiJune or KaiJuly with some of the kaiju series (all Godzilla or one movie from different franchises or one episode from different anime).

Darth Maul’s tainted Tit’s

Watching Gurren Lagann 2 episodes a week has really made me appreciate the pacing of the show so far at least, I can’t think of a anime that’s this well paced that I’ve watched recently. I really hope it keeps up and sticks the landing!

Console Canon

Strange New Worlds is wonderful and Heather should give it a try!

I guess I'll share this too since everyone else is. Last year I read all of One Piece - at the time, 1111 chapters - in the course of 3 months. I don't recommend doing it this way, but I have no regrets

Matthew Siegel

It’s truly a tragedy that Hollywood doesn’t take more inspiration from anime visuals. If an MCU movie just straight up copied the “even the explosions have explosions” bit from when Adiane gets cannon blasted it would render the movie unwatchable, because of all the statues and awards that would be thrown at the screen.

LOVE the Dragon Ball/Sailor Moon chat - I'm about Matt's age and as a little gay boy, I was obsessed with both! I'm from Portugal and they were huge there. Neptune and Uranus being "cousins" must have been a general edit in western translations, because the same was the case in the Portuguese dub. Fun bit of trivia: a well-known lesbian bar in Lisbon in the 2000s/2010s was called Primas (feminine word for cousins), as a direct reference to Sailor Moon! 👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏻

David Mucci

I read and watched all of Sailor Moon last year, and despite the filler in the anime, it still holds up and is shockingly progressive at times. The new dub (available on Hulu) is also pretty solid! I guess I liked it well enough because I went down to the Chicago Theatre last night and saw the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live show. Cheesy and campy but fun and earnest as hell, so fitting for Sailor Moon.

Mark Pangle

If Wiger is looking for a train anime, I highly recommend; Train to the end of the world. Animation is top notch with the right mix of absurd comedy and heart felt moments. All the different biomes are intriguing and make the episodes flow.

Rachael

Heather, Sailor Moon absolutely still holds up. I watched all of it last year following a filler free list because there's too many anime series out that I want to see and I can't commit to 300 episodes of just one. Lol

toffuti_today

On the main feed last week, Nick was outted for texting "I hate birds" to the group chat in the middle of the night. I'd love to recommend an excellent anime from last year that will have you all texting each other "I love birds!" It's called 'Yatagarasu: A Crow Does Not Choose It's Master'. It's set around a civilization of 3 legged ravens that shapeshift into humans. The protagonist is sent to aid the upcoming ruler and is thrust into a world of political intrigue, deception and murder. It's subtle, brutal and quietly rips until it absolutely shreds.

The image of Simon looking awesome and proclaiming he is Simon the digger Is so so good on so many levels. With the series being mostly from Simon’s perspective he is not depicted as awesome as kamina says he is. Which tracks because that is how Simon views himself. By finally believing his big bro, we get to see the Simon that Kamina always saw because his view of himself changed. I often have a hard time accepting a compliment because of how I view myself. This show reminds me that the people who love us and encourage us really can see a real awesome version of us that we cannot see in the mirror and we should learn to believe them.

Ben Toomey

Wow, Wiger raising the stakes from shower orange to ocean chili dog.

Mauricio Diocis

Y'all catch that Squidward cameo in episode 12?

XRedGambit

If you are looking for a star trek to watch, check out the anime adjacent lower decks. It's got friends of CBB on it and it's animated. It's a rather funny take on star trek as well as a love note to the series.

XRedGambit

I love this podcast and it's the 2nd podcast in my tiers (of the kingdom) list only to get played. I bumped my listen of CBB to listen today. While I got the early copy of the pod that had some early audio cues, they almost fit in perfectly. The blank spot where you are listening to godzilla music made it seem like nick didn't have anything to play and then at the end when nick was telling his story about episode 5 it the end theme plays from when his friends dad starts his watch and the theme ends right at the story finishes to hard laughter.

Watching this show is making me nostalgic for other shows i watched around the same time. I think its time to rewatch Ergo Proxy.

GoonScape

Okay! I know I’m out of control with this. My brother started the One Piece live-action and loved it, convincing me to pull the trigger on starting the manga. I began reading it in March and am please to report I AM HOOKED. Just this week I have broken through to issue 700. The writing is exceptional and there are just so. many. little. guys.

I put myself forward as another “I hate watermelon” club member. Awful. I don’t have the garbage smell/taste thing that Heather does with it, but the smell and taste is definitely something that turns my stomach.

Spudowski

Can we take a moment to appreciate Heather's ability to make really good drowning sounds?

Spudowski

Can we entertain the possibility of creating a Choo-Choo Channel in discord for Train related photos and animes? Just a thought.

Transfem Surge!

My favorite trope in media (as seen in animes like Gurren Lagann & Kill La Kill or Digimon Frontier, movies like Kill Bill 1&2, and videogames like Bomberman 64 & many others) is a four stack of underlings/bosses, who work for a big bad. I have used this while DMing TTRPGs many times, usually to great success.

parenthesesONE

My favorite part was Heather mispronouncing Simon, acknowledging it and then calling him Semen like the Eva reference hadn't left her brain yet

Deacon Raid

Heather may have a specific mutation that lets her taste more flavors than average. Here’s an excerpt from an article I found about it: “ Fruits and vegetables in the cucurbitaceae family such as cucumbers, watermelons, and melons, have a bitter steroid, cucurbitacin, which acts as a shield against bugs or herbivores. The bitterness decreases as the fruit ripens, but people with two copies of PAV can still taste it, making it more likely that cucumber-haters will be people with PAV encoded in their chromosomes. If one has extremely developed PAV, they will be able to taste excessive bitterness not only from cucumbers but also certain fruits such as melons and watermelons. This can be tested through a PTC test where a PTC paper is tasted. Around 75% find the PTC paper bitter, while 25% don’t, indicating the approximate ratio of “tasters” and “non-tasters”. ”

Godzooky Minus One

Skreeonk! Always happy for more G-man talk. Love that Tiger is still going through the Heisei movies and I hope he continues through to the Millennium series, especially since Final Wars is the zaniest one of all. You know, this is an anime podcast and there are a couple of Godzilla anime out there... just saying. Skreeonk.

Foot lettuce gave me diarrhea

Heather’s watermelon smell aversion was something my dad also had. It was wild to hear someone else say that because I always just thought was my dad was just being an asshole about my flavor preferences! If he wasn’t being asshole about that, what else could I be wrong about?! (Probably not much, tbh)

Ivan Lajara

I googled watermelon and anime for ~reasons~ and ended up with Kirby: Right Back at Ya! I don’t know what to do with this information

Danny Maes

I agree with Nick and Matt, The Master of Disguise is an underrated gem that could have only been pulled off by the incomparable and, dare I say, national treasure, Dana Carvey.
