Heather, Nick and Matt discuss episodes 19 & 20 of Gurren Lagann.

Comments

Doc Robot

Gurren Lagann has influenced my internal vocabulary to refer to anti human things as anti spiral behavior. Additional paperwork to register a vehicle, anti spiral. Bigotry, anti spiral. Someone says "Time to lean, time to clean" you got an anti spiral going.

Dynamite In The Brain

Weird that you didn't know the rest of the One Year War flashback was in a later episode of GQuuuuuuX given that you established this episode definitely wasn't recorded months ago.

Zack Tennenhouse

Matt, you're right to drop Fire Punch early if it's upsetting you. It gets worse.

Dabinsk

Did you all know Pokemon recently released a new small trubish video on their YouTube channel, you should check it out Heather! Fun fact, the reason Japan loves trubish is because it is based off of a green, New York City style trash bag whereas in Japan, all of the trash bags are transparent.

David Mucci

This show’s interesting because I was so pissed at Rossiu that I thought “shoulda left that fucker underground,” then realized that’s not the lesson I should be taking from this show. Simon and Kamina wouldn’t refuse to save someone because they might backstab them later, they’d save them because it’s the right thing to do. Also, if Nick is looking for some zombie content that gets slightly horny, may I interest him in chapters 442-489 of One Piece?

Matthew Siegel

As someone who wrote a (bad) undergrad essay about this topic, I’d say the politics of the show is Pro: progressive democracy (all the triumphs are the result of people working together towards making a better future) and anti: reactionary fascism (the villains are all dictators who fear a future they can’t control and oppress anyone upsetting the status quo), but doesn’t get into the nuance of whether institutions/capitalism/government/etc. themselves are good or bad. Institutions are treated like mecha, the same thing can be used for good or bad depending on who is piloting it.

Matthew Siegel

Amazed that the prequel comparison they pulled out was the droid mothership, and not Leeron literally doing the “I’ll try spinning!” meme to figure out how to handle the anti-spirals.

MK

They better not try to redeem Rossiu. That motherfucker put Boota in handcuffs! He's dead to me.

Since the end of AniMay, I got hooked and binged all of Akiba Maid War, and going from that crazy show to this equally, but different, crazy show, reminds me what I love about Anime in general - over-the-top action/violence along with emotional depth for the characters. Did any of you finish Akiba Maid War or any of the other AniMay shows?

For too long, humans have stood idly by while the moon stares down condescendingly, flexing daily by controlling our tides, and sporadically blocking the sun. That’s why I now stan Kittan, and his ‘blow up the moon’ idea.

My friends and I thought that Viral was a cross between a shark (for his teeth) and a cat (for his claws). So he's a cat-shark beast man in my head.

When I started listening to Get Anime'd I thought I shared Heather's taste. Then I watched Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian and realized I've been a Wiger in denial the whole time. So I guess now I have to watch this weird thirsty Zombie show? Pray for me.

XRedGambit

I'm sorry Weiger, but Dominos pizza is the worst pizza. I almost wouldn't eat it even if it was free. The cheese is just mush. I would eat it still though, because it's pizza.

BruceWayneBrady

As soon as Weiger said he was watching a zombie anime, I thought "I hope it's High School of the Dead". I was laughing so hard when Heather started because I knew what was coming next. Ranch's Purge Answer was so fast and sincere, I'll never forget it.

Does Heather know about the Gundam commemorative alloy plate from Bandai Namco that’s on the real-life moon now? iSpace, a Japanese space company, put it in their lunar lander, though a week or so ago crashed during its landing sequence. From iSpace: “The plate, which was made using a special alloy and modeled after the “Charter of the Universal Century” from the animation Mobile Suit Gundam UC, was designed to not deteriorate over a long period of time even in the harsh environment of the Moon.”

nick and matt casually acknowledging together that they enjoyed babygirl had me in absolute stitches

parenthesesONE

Matt - "where's peter?" Me - "thats a big cock"

Michael Pemulis

I finished Akiba Maid War. My new dream is to be a maid who shoots other maids in the face.

I upgraded my pc a few weeks back and included a huge m.2 drive, which I named “GIGADRIVE BREAK” for obvious reasons… the reveal of gigadrill maximum was a blow to me

toop

Didn't Heather already start firepunch like 2 weeks ago?

Modest Ghost

Off topic, but are you getting the limited edition chainsaw man Blu-ray box set next month?

Andres Ungaro

Another off topic but I wonder if any of them continued watching Maid Wars? They sound like they enjoyed it but only for the experiment, well I kept on watching and… Oh. My. GOD! That show is SO GOOD. So silly but SOOOO MUCH DRAMA! It’s so big and dumb and amazing. I hope they continue or even do it on the show because it’s bonkers in the best way for me. PS: also got hooked on Birdie Wing a bit :P

Andrew Ingram

For a show often remembered as non-stop action, GL does down beats and character building exceptionally well, better than a lot of longer prestige anime. I wouldn’t throw Violet Evergarden in that bucket, but others certainly might.

Drangus

I'm so mad that they immediately make a horrible government system with a supreme leader. I know that's kind of the point but you'd think they would try a more egalitarian society first
