My siblings and I watched this when we were pretty young. The consensus then was that it was laughably bad. Let’s see if my thoughts on this have changed at all.

I want them to watch Wonder Egg Priority bc it feels like it fits the vibe of the show...maybe I'm a masochist

OMG, y'all did Vampire Hunter D! That might be the very first piece of anime I was exposed to.

I was in the Uffizi gallery also this year 🙌 many ugly babies

The French media centre you were referring to is called a 'médiathèque', Matt. It's the audio-visual equivalent of a bibliothèque (library). There are branches dotted across the EU, funded by the French government, and they'll often have a lot of 'bandes desinées' (French-language comics and graphic novels) and screen French-language films, etc. Haw-hee-haw.

I just saw a Vampire Hunter D / Bloodlust double feature at the SMC Theater in LA and both were wonderful to watch in a room full of fans! Personal thoughts on the first, this movie was for sure made before flashing light/ seizure warnings were a thing! I had to cover my eyes on a couple of sequences! Second, the awesome drawing of the backgrounds and extended establishing shots reminded me a lot of Fantastic Planet and made me wish I could own a couple of those cells!

It would be cool if you did 1 episode a week of Chainsaw + another first episode of a classic anime. I’ll continue yelling “Do Yu Yu Hakusho!” Into the void. It’s super charming and a perfect first episode, I think Matt would love it. Also a rare anime where the dub is almost universally considered better than the sub. Another idea is to do the first 12 episodes of Spy x Family before Chainsaw. Love the show so much.

Ranking of Kings also has a lot to discuss. Surprisingly deep show with episodes focusing on the pasts of various Game of Thrones esque characters. It gets bonkers. Season 1 ended recently. Really cool show.

Do FLCL, says i screaming at a house on fire

I think it would be great if they did one off old anime movies or shows like project a-ok or galaxy express 999

Numlocks

Where exactly do they announce what they are reviewing for the next episode?

I just watched the first episode of Chainsaw Man, and was like "Okay, that's it. I'm gonna read it." So I ordered the first volume of the manga. Can't wait for it to arrive!

TBS use to do a Anime marathon late on a Saturday night a few times a year in the 90s. Main stays were Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnivale. Preteen me was blown away by this

I would definitely recommend Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust to anyone that enjoyed this movie even a little!

If we're throwing out personal favorites, I'm going to have to hype The Vision of Escaflowne, which is on Funimation currently.

Idk what version they saw on YouTube, the version I watched last night (dubbed) had a scene where they kidnap Doris and they also show how D broke free by biting the snake lady and sucking their blood to power up.

hao .

Bloodlust is so much better. Is not a remake. Yall should watch some Masaaki Yuasa, kaiba 2008 is a beautiful post humanist blend of cyberpunk and the little prince? Kemonozume is a bloody spectacle with some commentary on toxic adult relationships a rarity i feel like. If you cant find these things by normal means nyaa . si

Just to maybe throw a series worth covering out there, Ranking of Kings is delightful. It sort of reignited my interest in anime since I was a teen.

Feels weird to suggest a slice of life anime after the 2 series they’ve covered, but I would be interested to hear their thoughts on Aquatope on White Sand. It covers climate change, capitalism, and sort of magical realism. It’s also extremely sentimental and that seems like a knock against it in the global context of the subject matter, but I’d be interested to hear the feelings a couple of screenwriters on whether or not it succeeds.
