More than anything it would be so good to get a little scene of Denji and Power picking out glasses for operation super smart

I'm in my 40s; giving up half of my remaining lifespan means dying in my 60s rather than my 80s. OH NO I DON'T GET TO BE SO EXTREMELY ELDERLY THAT I'M BEDRIDDEN AND CONSTANTLY SHITTING MYSELF. Fuck, dude; I would pay for someone to take half of my remaining time away from me so I don't have to worry about those awful last couple of decades.

I was a little disappointed with the translation of Power saying "Let's defeat him with our wits!" When in the manga she says "LET'S MURDER HIM WITH OUR INTELLECT!" which to me is much funnier

Oh, I do wonder to which of Wiger's "dipshit friends" he's talking about... XD

Love that they wore glasses after putting together a plan lmao

It is my birthday and the best thing that happened today is, that my parasocial semi-celebrity pseudo-friends read my not so insightful comment about a depressing and just as horny anime on a podcast behind a paywall.... Yeah!

Rebuilds right after Chainsaw Man? Hell yeah!!!!!

I feel like chainsaw man is less a deconstruction of Shonen anime and more of an outright rejection.

my favorite moments this episode were all Power. First, when old dude told them they had a perfect score and that he was EXCITED, Power whispered "I am frightened". Then later when Denji's brain was broken and there was a great camera shot of Power's eyes widening in horror and the two of them were at the complete point of breaking. Hilarious stuff! Also please do the rebuilds later! While I want the crew to give their thoughts on them it would be nice to put some distance between NGE episodes. Do some OAVs in the mean time! Please do a watch of Macross Plus, Macross DYRL or Gundam 08th MS Team.

I love the contrast of the hospital scene from the one with Aki waiting for Denji to wake after fighting the leech devil, and each scene dealing with Aki's devil contracts. In the first one we see Aki peeling apples while he tells Denji the Fox devil took some of his skin as part of his contract. Now that it's Denji waiting for Aki to wake, we watch Denji taking Aki's apples, while leaving Aki a single apple, representing his remaining life left, while the Curse Devil has taken the rest.

Goddamn. Even the "slow" episodes fucking wreck house. This show couldn't disappoint me now, even if the last couple episodes were a stop motion Christmas special, staring a destitute, talking donkey, about the power of Christ's love. This show has just been unreasonably good, so far. Can we also talk about how every fucking ending sequence is the best anime end credit sequence of the year?! Every single one is a brilliantly executed bop. (Hmmm... if I sound smart, maybe they'll read my comment on the show...) *puts on glasses*

I don’t know why but I laughed so hard when Denji & Power were just suddenly wearing glasses after deciding to “outsmart” their trainer. Probably because most shows would literally explain the joke by having the characters say “don’t we look so smart in these glasses?” but Chainsaw Man just lets the visual lie and do the work. So damn good. I imagine that’s what they’ll wear to their Nobel Prize ceremony.

I wasn’t immediately sold on this show, but ever since the episodes in the hotel it’s been fantastic. I’m not even waiting for the dubbed versions to release now! As for my tastemakers, it’s fast becoming you guys since I’m currently watching Chainsaw Man and playing Vampire Survivors!

I am a Dub Defender… I was two weeks behind the anime because the dub is delayed. But after watching episode 8 I couldn’t help but immediately watch 9 and 10 subbed. I needed to know what was going to happen next. I’d be really interested to hear the crew’s reaction to some of the Dub voices - particularly Power and Makima.

If you contract with a devil for a “half your life” deal, but then kill the devil, is the contract null?

I was just with my family for the holidays, and I've been telling my little sister we were going to watch Chainsaw Man together (I've been watching the anime and reading the manga, but she hasn't seen or read any of it). We binged the whole series in 2 days, and then watched episode 11 together last night. She was giddy about how fun and silly and gross the show was... and then we got to episode 8. From that point on, she was watching every episode with her jaw hanging open and was saying, "What?!" every few minutes. By the time we got to the end of episode 11, she told me when she gets her first dog, she's going to name it Pochita. We're so pumped for episode 12! (And we were cracking ourselves up by coming up with different devils that could exist.)

I love Get Played and had to subscribe to Get Animed when I saw you were covering Chainsaw Man. This story is so good and I think it catches a lot of people who are expecting standard Shonen tropes off guard. After consuming the manga (don’t worry, no spoilers) one of the things I was left with was this strong feeling that I’ve never seen the concept of pure hedonism, as embodied by Denji, portrayed in such a positive and loving way. We identify with Denji because of the way he finds hope and joy in the simplest of things, for better or worse. A bit childish, yes, but in a way that is essentially human. Ironically I think Power and Pochito, both devils, echo this, too. Denji is simply the best and most well realized version of the classic “believe it” Shonen protagonist I’ve personally seen.
