Heather really perfectly encapsulates my general feelings about the Rebuilds. I should have probably rewatched them all again but I just couldn't. it already took me a year and a half to get through the 4th one, tho that could be my own issues. I barely even remember the first two movies, so it's fun getting flashes of memory through listening to them. I'm excited to hear what they say about the others. also SHOUT OUT TO HANGERS

The show never felt incomplete when I started watching it but by then the first rebuild movie was out, so I have a weird relationship with the movies, but I feel despite all its flaws I still enjoy them a lot specially how it ties into ending all of Evangelion and the conversation it had with itself, they do not stand by themselves one but, but I don’t think that’s what they try to do, specially when the characters from the show are part of the movies separately from the movie characters.

If these episodes had self-referential titles this one would be called "Moon is the New Goo."

Matt

So remember, in the original series there was a lot of fan service and they tried to say “nah, he’s making a comment on this” and then you get a quote about how he made sure this new character had big breasts and it’s like “yeah, dude was doing fan service for fan service sake”

Brock Landreth

I have to admit even at worst I did not expect these movies to be met with the same level of disdain as a Leisure Suit Larry.

Kevin Ela

Wish they talked more about the music or anything besides sighing about the changes. Absolutely loved the song “Tsubasa Wo Kudasi” during the climax and how it still evoked “Komm, Susser Tod” while feeling both it’s own and far more positive.

Dan Photoman

I love the Tokyo-3 wake up scene and the music for that scene was excellent

Madame Nuhdsich

Seems like heather’s characters get fired from their jobs permanently. Can she do a Trump or Putin?

Phillip Medoc

I feel vindicated in my dislike for these. Thanks <3

Jeez these eps are just gonna bum me out I think. Looking forward to the next thing!

Maybe I'm just a basic bitch, but I prefer the rebuild movies. Give me pretty visuals, awesome action, and a hot glasses girl and I'm happy! To be fair, it's been like 15 years since I watched the TV series. Maybe with time and hearing other people's reviews (such as your own) might make me appreciate it more if I were to rewatch it. 🤷‍♂️ I'd also like to take this chance to once again recommend everyone check out the hilarious Evangelion 1.0 parody EvAbridged by Gigguk. It's in four parts so make sure to watch them all! Link below. https://www.youtube.com/@gigguk/search?query=evabridged

I feel like some of the comments about things being coincidences or seeming illogical are applied here in a far stricter way than they were for the original series. I kinda wish they would focus more on these retellings as their own thing, and whether they work dramatically and intellectually on their own, although I understand the nature of the rebuilds is necessarily referential or commenting on the original series. Maybe I enjoyed them more because I knew less about the behind the scenes stuff going in? Taking them on their own merits, they’re certainly watchable. Incidentally, I have a vague memory of Heather saying in one of the first episodes of Get Animed that the latest Evangelion had 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and was speaking favorably of it. I was expecting a slightly more positive outlook on these movies from that early comment.

I just want to thank Heather for so eloquently and succinctly verbalizing all of my issues with the Rebuilds; something that I am rarely able to do on my own. I would also like to add one of my complaints that they haven’t mentioned yet—movies 2-4 all have the same exact climax: an impact level event. How boring and repetitive!
