I'm new to anime, so you won't read any revelatory thoughts from me, on the subject, but I can't believe how good Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop are. So, a big thank you, to this show, for introducing me to an art form I'd ignored until very recently.

Shout out to Triple Click's The Great AI Craze episode if anyone wants to listen to more AI talk in regards to gaming!

Dan from Cincinnati here! Love both Get Played and Get Anime’d. I’ve wanted to write in for some time but I’m a wimpy boi and scared to death. That said, a few episodes back of Get Anime’d, you all discussed what kinds of anime you would like to see. The idea of a cooking show was floated, and I immediately thought of this old Fox Kids show, Fighting Foodons. While it’s not exactly the kind of show you were describing, the opening theme of the dub is something you shouldn’t miss. A+ punsmanship (if that’s not a word, it should be) worthy of even appearing on Doughboys! Here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LrF-7ZzHhI Keep up the good work! Heather and Matt are cool

For Nick. They made a 35th anniversary box set of Akira. Hard cover. All the books plus a bonus content book come in their own case. They seem to have just done a reissue/reprinting so it’s looks widely available.

It's kind of ironic they mentioned both the Illiad and only psychopaths being smart in the same episode. There is a long history in western culture of the trope that heroes, from Achilles to Harry Potter, are brave yet dumb. Villains and anti-heroes are smart and clever. Odysseus is clever, but more an anti-hero, Superman brave and strong, but kinda dumb. Batman is clever, Gryffindor brave, slytherin clever. Simba brave and dumb, scar smart and evil. You can find countless more examples of this, but heroes tend to be morally simple, while villains use their intelligence to achieve their evil ambitions.

As a real life footy fan, I have one major issue with this series, which I fully enjoy despite this glaring oversight. The conceit of the show is that they are trying to develop a single amazing goal scorer for the purpose of having Japan win the World Cup. They constantly frame this struggle as though there can only be one, which is wildly wrong in a real world context. While there are formations that have a single striker up top, there are also many others that have 2 or even 3. To take the 25 best high school strikers, and tell them, "if you aren't #1 at the end, you will never play on the national team" is absolutely awful team management, because not only might you also want the second best striker on the field next to the best striker, you also need reserve players to be ready to come into the game, so really the top 5 in Blue Lock should be rewarded in some way. Not only that, but we're seeing Isagi show attributes that would be valuable to have in the midfield, supporting a striker and producing plays while also being a scoring threat himself! Chigiri could be a tremendous winger with his great speed and crossing ability, so already there's at least two great players who are being told "you can never contribute to Japan's World Cup ambitions if you don't come out on top in this very specific way." Additionally, while representing your country at the international level is a goal these players all strive for, if they fail to do so it doesn't mean they will have failed as professional athletes. Any one of these 25 Blue Lock players, who again are supposedly the best high school strikers in the country, are very likely to make it onto a professional club team and be paid very well for it. They could all fail to make it onto the national team and still be able to retire at age 30-35 with a nice amount of cash from their club careers. So that alone really negates any kind of "oh no, my life is ruined and my family will forever be trapped in poverty" worries as we saw from Naruhaya. He might never be a national hero who scores the goal that wins the World Cup for Japan, but he can still be making life changing money in the J.League or overseas.

In case Heather hasn't left to Japan yet, there's a Evangelion VR experience at the new KABUKICHO TOWER in Tokyo!
