The crunchy roll app on Roku is bad also

Rory McDaid

I was so disappointed that in merging Funimation and Crunchyroll, that Crunchyroll was kept as the dominant one. The CR app is so frustratingly bad, whereas I had quite liked the Funi one (at least the versions I had on my Tv and PS5 in the UK).

Michael Pemulis

I haven't had any problems with Crunchyroll, on Xbox.

Spayde

Oh, Crunchyroll? You guys mean SOGGYROLL? I truly have the worst time with the app when I'm trying to watch Demon Slayer because every language and season is it's own category, not to mention the fact that sometimes it just doesn't work. In one instance, I had to stop watching an anime because the next episode I was up to just kept switching back and forth between slow and fast motion. Felt like a mean joke.

I really want to be ride or die Haruhi Did Nothing Wrong but here treatment of Mikuru is just abhorrent. It's not taking me out of the show, I'm still having a blast, but it's been close at times. Anyone ever bail out of something due to just one element / performance that you just couldn't stand (i.e. Kenneth Branagh in Tenet)?

Joe M

THRILLED that Nick talked up Band-Maid!! Great performers, fantastic musicians, awesome rhythms and melodies. Hope you keep exploring their catalog! And thank you Heather for picking this show! Never would have watched it without the pod and I'm having a great time!

Hi Heather, Matt, and Nick! First time with this show and I'm really loving it. It really is the Neon Genesis Evangelion of the high school romance anime genre. You glossed over my favorite line in Episode 3/whatever, "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya III." At the end of the first part of Nagato's spiel about being an alien, Kyon says, (in the sub) "First of all, why me? No, I'll give in a bit... and trust this information [...]" I love how blatantly meta-textual he is being in this moment. At first I thought he was speaking as an Anime character who probably would just give in, but I actually think he is signalling that in the "business of Anime" metaphor of the show, Kyon is the audience. Haruhi wants him to love her, but she can't hear what he says. Everything she does is in one-way-or-another for her benefit - especially with Mikuru-based fan service (#JusticeForMikuru). She's upset when she isn't the focus of his attention, as any creator would be. He's just a normal human. The possible evidence for this reading goes on. Would love to get your take.

Trigun was a huge influence on me becoming a good boy and not growing into a toxic man. The revival of Trigun on Hulu is great! Sorry I have no comments on Haruhi, other then I love the recaps and I feel clued into a cultural moment I missed. Finally the .gifs of Haruhi I saw back in the day have a context.

Hi guys. As with BlueLock I’d have likely never watched this show if it weren’t for the podcast, but I’m really enjoying it so far. You’re now my two favourite podcasts!

Glad you're covering this one, probably one of my earliest anime exposures when I was like 15. Question; Don't want to yuck anyone's yum but why is Apodaca watching the dub? English isn't my first language so I have a hard time understanding why one would prefer to watch a dub rather than the original version of it.

Not to be pedantic anime fan but I am pretty sure voice actors singing opening and ending theme songs has been around since Ranma 1/2 made it big.

The idea of you all doing the dance at the end of the Haruhi series is so fucking funny. I can’t get it out of my head. New Patreon tier?

Michael Pemulis

No offense, but as a 40 something whose back and knees hurt, I don't want to watch two other 40 somethings, and their kid brother? dance like animated teenagers. Because I respect you all and care about your physical wellbeing.

Sewing Savage

Haruhi is so close to my heart, it was the first anime I watched online (in 3 parts on youtube) and haruhi was also the first cosplay I ever sewed. I'm still cosplaying 14 years later and just got the season 1 boxset for my birthday from my younger brother. Glad y'all are enjoying it!

Correction: Othello is not Go! Reversi (or the Othello variant) is played with 2 sided discs (one side black and one white) which are placed inside the squares of the game board in way that overtakes your opponents pieces allowing you to flip them over to your side. The player with the most discs showing their color at the end wins. In Go you place solid colored white or black stones on the intersections of the lines of the game board to capture territory by surrounding it, preventing either player from playing pieces inside the captured territory. The player with the most captured territory at the end wins. Hikaru No Go is a great Go anime that explains the rules. Also, old Trigun show is great, and new Trigun show sucks.

Well i just had to stop watching ep 3...im having lunch at a restaraunt alone and the waiter delivered my food at the exact moment Mikuru is being forceably changed into a maid outfit...i can never come back here again.

Zoe Elise

One of my favorite things is when Yuki is at the library, she sort of "floats" happily to the bookshelves. So funny!

Andy Hunter

I’m enjoying your discussions about this show, but I like some of the ideas behind the show more than the show itself. I think it would have been possible to explore the central premise of a melancholy unwitting god without them making Haruhi so obnoxious. (And I have to say that the gag of Kyon walking in while Haruhi is sexually assaulting Mikaru was old by the second time. It gives me Happosai vibes from Ranma 1/2 — both in terms of “Why is this being played for a laugh?” and “Why is it being played for a laugh SO MUCH?”) Also, I’m curious to see if the incident “3 years ago” parallels the fact that the light novels appear to have begun being published about 3 years before the start of the anime?

Hi Heather, Matt and Nick! Thanks for introducing me to this series, really interesting to me how it explores the tropes of anime which led me to a question… What do you think it is about the tropes that work so well in anime storytelling?
