Honored to be called the Mooch by my favorite podcasters! And Scaramucci is basically my Waluigi, but I do wish my improv training could’ve allowed me to come up with something as funny as “I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own cock.”

I finished Gundam Origins and now on so 13 of the og series. I am hooked and plan on watching all the Gundam main universe shows. Where has this been all my life?????

I really love this show and movie but also totally agree with your critiques 😅 they just don’t really effect my enjoyment. Also kind of a bummer but very topical: the excellent actor who voices Yuta in the dub has spoken about how she was paid peanuts for this very successful movie 🙃

Y'all should consider watching Made in Abyss. Just watched both seasons and it's good. It tricks you into thinking it's a cute studio ghibli style fantastical adventure stuff, then becomes a deeply upsetting existential dread body horror / cosmic horror thing.

The JJK0 movie felt like 5 eps of an anime without the OP and not like one movie. Maybe that’s because it was written as a manga, in episodes and not as a movie (I have no idea). It was mentioned that Maki wears glasses to see curses. The character also needs them for those who are into bossy women in glasses.

This movie was my intro to Jujutsu Kaisen. I'm glad I watched it but I didn't connect with it. I felt the same way I did when I watched some of Tokyo Ghoul. I thought it looked great, but I didn't care what happened to any of the characters. I do wish I was a giant talking panda, though.

I fully get where Heather is coming from in regards to Demon Slayer. You can't spend a whole episode on chibi gags in a training arc then next episode show me a character's backstory with his younger siblings chopped into peices and not expect some tonal whiplash.

After Heather’s wholesome story about Mary recognizing Shinji’s voice and expressing how glad she was that they got married, it made me think, “it sounds more like she Got Mary’ed *end of episode sting*”

I guess I’ll be the sicko who comes in and says I really like this movie, maybe even more than the first season of JJK! I really love the gothic horror-romance aspect and Yuta as a character. I’m also pretty burned out on the standard format for anime series movies so anything that breaks that mold is immediately more interesting to me. All the criticisms are very valid but for me the cool and interesting stuff pushes JJK0 a step above.

Jujutsu Kaisen is in my top 3 favorite anime of all time (along with FLCL and Samurai Champloo) so when I heard you guys were covering it, my mouth dropped with excitement. As someone who consumed the entirety of the manga, I do wanna add some color my favorite scene of the movie: The fight in the city with all of the sorcerers outside of the main cast was added just for the movie, so it was a big moment for manga readers to see some characters in action that we wouldn’t have otherwise (and till much later in the series, depending how S2 is paced). So we did *kinda* get that big anime movie moment Heather said this was lacking, but it’s a shame those outside of the manga audience didn’t get to appreciate that. Appreciate you guys covering this and hearing your takes!

I really liked season one of JJK and I’m curious what people are grumpy over season two about. This movie did feel a little thin - I actually watched the first hour of it when it first released on Crunchyroll, then didn’t feel compelled to finish it until I heard you guys were covering it this week. The one weird thing about the movie is Geto dying at the end, because if you look up the reason he’s still alive in the show, it’s a spoiler for something I don’t think the anime has covered yet? It just felt odd for any attempt to get resolution on his death result in a spoiler if you don’t read the manga.

I know this episode is about JJK, but you mentioned One Piece at the top, and so I've been summoned. I started One Piece in 2019 and have since caught up on both the manga and the show. It's easier than you'd think once you're hooked in! Mostly because I honestly think it's one of the most impressive works of fiction in the last 50 years. Plus, the phones are snails. Some of the movies are definite 8's, too - among them is the directorial debut of Mamoru Hosoda (Girl Who Leapt Through Time, etc). It'd be a delight to hear you cover one (or a few) on the show! (As someone who kinda-sorta writes about One Piece for a living, I'd be happy to help give recommendations on where to start.)

I had never watched Jujutsu Kaisen. I had zero knowledge of what it was about. I’m in-between shows at the moment so decided to give it a watch. At first it just seemed like a Death Note like, then it just seemed like Death Note meets My Hero Academia, then it seemed like those with a splash of BLEACH. The movie looked great and did a pretty good job of being an entry point to the world. It did feel like there were too many lingering shots of characters who had no real importance in the movie, but are probably in the show? Either way, I enjoyed it, but will never watch Jujutsu Kaisen again. As for what I am weebing. Sumo. Right now the July tournament is happening and it's pure excitement. Also, reading Chainsaw Man.

JJK is fine; the character designs and power presentations are excellent, but it leans way too heavily into the chibi style cutaways for humor and defines power levels in a way that I find narratively unsatisfying. It seems like a lot of the fan discussion is centered around ‘could this character beat this character?’ and I think that speaks to how ultimately forgettable the actual plot is; JJK isn’t breaking new ground in that way, it’s just playing around with well-worn tropes while nailing the presentation. Overall I give manga and anime 6.5/10, great designs and serviceable plot but not a life changing media experience like CHAINSAW MAN. I am also a Yuta Stan, get that Naruto wannabe Itadori (actual MC) outta here

Andy Hunter

My main takeaway from watching JJK 0 is that, as much as I sometimes get frustrated with shonen anime's tendency to drag things out, the big explosive payoffs don't hit nearly as hard when the arc has only been going on for 45 minutes. This one checking so many shonen tropes did make me think that it would be fun for you to dedicate an episode of Get Anime'd to just educating us (or each other) about certain tropes or genres of anime. "Here's what a shonen anime is; here's what to expect from a magical girl anime; here's what's in a standard mecha anime and why NGE is a subversion of it; etc." --Andy

Just finished the movie but haven’t watched more than a few episodes of the show. Meh. It really hit as perfectly average as one would expect from Great Value Chainsaw Man.

Anime films based on shonen manga are an interesting bunch. I think my first one was a Dragon Ball Z movie that they showed on Toonami back in the 90s. I love how these can ease a newcomer into what the manga/anime is all about. JJK Zero worked on me and I’m planning on watching the show, thanks for the introduction.

I'd love to watch these episodes. I just want to see Matt's face when he said, "How deep does this shit GO?!"

HighWayJonny

I watched season 1 and 2 of the show before I even knew there was a movie and it honestly made the movie a lot better for me. I had so much more context to everything. Watched it a few days ago and really liked it. Pumped for part 1 of season 3!
