This anime is freaking awesome! I love how the show gives nods to its video game roots! For example, in episode 1 David leaves his apartment and walks through the city and citizens are seen all over the place - passed out, robbing people, autojacking out in the open - basically representing the dregs of society. Episode 2 he leaves his apartment again, and even though multiple days have passed, the citizens of the town are all still in the exact same positions as before - they havent moved an inch and are wearing the same clothing - just like NPCs always stay frozen in time in video games regardless of how much time passes. Great show 10 out of 10 so far

I had planned to follow along with the pod and just do two eps a week, but I started yesterday and watched 8 episodes in a row. I've never played the game, but this show absolutely blows me away. I just want to spend so much more time in this world (from a distance, fuck actually living there). Just wanted to edit to add that Franz Ferdinand was the first band I ever saw live, back in 2004 in Glasgow. I definitely didn't expect to hear them in the show but I was very happy to hear them again.

Absolutely love Edgerunners! Thrilled to have an excuse to rewatch it. Curious whether y’all would ever cover Netflix’s Castlevania and it’s new (extremely killer) spinoff? Sticklers will say it’s not anime but it sure feels like anime…

I’ve been thinking about rewatching edgerunners for a while, and so glad to have an excuse/motivator to do so. Just a magnificent show. I always love Trigger’s animation style, and it worked so well with the depraved and cruel world depicted. I bounced off the game initially, and Edgerunners being so good is what got me to revisit the game last year, and then fell in love with it. On all fronts, Edgerunners seems like a triumph (not the dog) to me.

This series is what got me into the game.

Thank you guys for stoking my cyberpunk madness. Love that I have an excuse to rewatch Edgerunners, I'm getting ready to hop in to 2077 for the first time and at the end of this month the Netflix anime PLUTO comes out which fits the "Autumn of Cyberpunk" theme extraordinarily well. If you guys haven't watched the trailer yet, holy mother of god, please do.

I feel like my life was happier before I knew about the Ancient Rome vinegar shit sponges.

After recently watching these two episodes of Edgerunners and the original Ghost in the Shell movie, both of which I really enjoyed, it made me wonder how there's never been a screen adaptation of Neuromancer; it seems like it would translate well as an anime movie or short series.

"I Really Want to Stay at Your House" is done by Rosa Walton of the English pop duo "Let's Eat Grandma". They're a favorite group of mine to share with others, if for no other reason than the funny looks I get when I mention the band's name.

I went into this show relatively cold, never played the game, and was kinda skeptical it would be for me. Wow, that first episode was full of things I found viscerally upsetting. I love it!

The part that stuck out to me was right before David corrupted the school's system, he was asked to fill out a Uniform Exception form because he was out of dress code. I am a data analyst by trade and there had to be a meeting by people where a decision was made that school uniform exceptions needed to be tracked. Some poor office drones had to design a form and create database tables so that they could track times someone was granted an exception for failing dress code. Not for when they got in trouble for failing dress code, but for when they were excused for it. This is a level of bureaucratic hell that gets overlooked in stories about a capitalist dystopia. Everything needs a form, an approval, a review, etc. People exist more in databases than they do in real life. The real horror is that even though things are miserable and hellish, things look absolutely fine on paper.

My wife and I watched this show when it first dropped and weren't particularly grabbed by it. We watched the first episode and didn't continue beyond that. When you announced you were doing Edgerunners for Get Anime'd, I asked her if she wanted to try again or just listen to you guys talk about it. She said she'd give it another shot, but she didn't want to watch the first episode again. I offered an out-of-character compromise: "How about we do rewatch the first episode, but we try the dub?" Like Heather, I'm very much a subs over dubs person in general whenever possible (when you guys watched Vampire Hunter D, I could only find the dubbed version and I fucking hated it), but my wife likes to knit while we watch TV and subbed anime requires her full attention so we don't watch a whole lot of it. However, I'm happy to say that the dub absolutely rules in this case. I think the show is so visually stimulating that the subtitles were the straw that broke the camel's back on my first watch. We're immediately on board this time around, and the only reason I didn't immediately continue into episode 3 and beyond was to avoid outpacing the pod.

I never got around to watching Edgerunners, even after y'all gave it such a glowing endorsement. Boy did I miss out! I'm absolutely hooked after these first two episodes and stoked as hell for the rest of the series. Chip this shit straight into my brain!

I never got around to watching this and always wanted to; everyone I know who watched it loved it. I've never played the game either, but was always tangentially interested in it (too many damn games to play recently!!). After starting the show, I've now become SUPER interested in the game, and might go have to move it up my backlog, especially with the improvements and DLC. These first two episodes absolutely ripped, I'm so excited to watch the rest. Fantastic animation and characterization so far, even this early; I truly love how this show just throws you in the world and you "get it," even for someone like me who has not played the game. The world building and setting are truly nailing it right from the jump.
