Of course, Kiwi inexplicably becomes my favorite character, and they Zero her in the next damn episode. #gonk

After episode 6 of this show the 'reaction' genre of YouTube video makes sense to me. I couldn't wait to talk to someone about it so I went on YouTube and watched people react to the episode in real time. I guess I wanted to know that someone else cried through the end of this, lol

I'm wondering why this show is feeling so much more depressing to me than the game. Maybe just time period as Cyberpunk was when I was still pretty isolated so any bright novel stimuli was still sort of hopeful. Or maybe it's literally just that you get to walk around and explore Night City in game without it having to be the scariest battle of your life. Either way enjoying the show but binging is maybe just making this feel extra dark.

Just watched Vanilla Sky for the first time recently and Heather's take on teaming it with Existenz & the Matrix is ... one hundred per cent

Can we have a mini episode once a month where Matt talks about Chainsaw Man manga?

I put a prompt on ChatGTP to tell me a joke in the style of Jay Leno in the world of Cyberpunk (no human writer should ever be exposed to this task) and it was so bad I could sense Heather’s preemptive contempt, much like when she was listening to the Leno discussion in this preem anime podcast.

I know it's not an anime, but I think Shin Godzilla would make a fun gap episode

I pay for 3 WWBW and I only got 2 this week. Next week nick better do 2.

I just got the Eva Unit-01 Castify case. Wish the design was a little better but with the Eva colored cables from ChubbyCable they’re an aesthetically pleasing pair.

Has there been, or will there ever be, another anime podcast episode with a lengthy discussion about Jay Leno?

So I was listening to this on a very quiet bus from Nagoya to Ghibli Park when Nick said “pleasure delayer” and I laughed so hard that several people checked to see if I was ok 🙃

'Pleasure delayer' caught me so off guard I nearly dropped a barbell on myself...

Hi all! Gaming pharmacist here, and I wanted to chime in to say Heather’s theory about the immunoblockers in Edgerunners causing cyber psychosis is actually really plausible! We use immunosuppressant drugs to stop the body from clotting around stents placed in hearts after a heart attacks, so it’s not unheard of to use these drugs to prevent problems with implants. Another drug, tacrolimus, is used to prevent the immune system from attacking transplanted organs. It’s advised to give tacrolimus orally, and not directly into veins like they do in the show, because the risk of neurotoxicity increases dramatically. Patients that develop toxicity may have symptoms like memory loss, cognitive dysfunction, and limb weakness. Heather was spot on!

I am loving the pod, but I have been having difficulty with Edgerunners. The show has excellent animation, but I think that it could be more forward looking In its take on cyberpunk aesthetics. Its seems to be consolidating genre tropes from the past and giving them a new paint job, when it could get a lot weirder and feel more contemporary. One area that It could improve upon is in its sense of embodiment. The characters treat their physical forms quite a bit differently than we do. They cut themselves up, augment themselves, and use auto-jackers. There is the seed of something interesting here, but I think most decisions are made to titillate the viewer more than they are used to build an interesting take on the aesthetics of cyberpunk. There is nothing as interesting as the dolphin hacker in Johnny Mnemonic or the fleshy game controllers in Existenz. I like what William Gibson has been doing in his latest books, The Peripheral and Agency. In these novels he has characters transfer their consciousness into artificial bodies that exist in a future space. Through this narrative element, he is able to address the commodification of the body that cyberpunk is known for, but he is also able to connect the characters to a longer than human time frame, which changes the way they see their world. They form a partnership with the future to avoid collapse. In Agency, a genuine, thinking and learning A.I. is unexpectedly created. By the end of the novel, it seems like this AI is going to reshape the world, but in a way that calls forth something new, rather than functioning as a techno imposition onto culture. The A.I. sees itself as a black woman because of who it was patterned off. This and other decisions puts cyberpunk in conversation with the real history of commodified of people and labour that allows for it to advance instead of fester in neon cities. Edgerunners, at times, can be an exhilarating ride, but the corporate exploitation and the techno-titillate is old.

Just so you guys know about the Breaking Bad/Cyberpunk universes colliding in this show, Faraday is voiced by Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring from Breaking Bad). Hadn't heard it mentioned yet so wanted to share, and his voice acting is so damn smooth. Los Pollos Hermanos indeed!
