Oh man, I hope you guys cover Pluto and/or Monster.

Nathan Maidlow

So many great Adam Smasher lines in the final episode but by far my favorite is “you think you’re special just because you’re scrappy” because it can apply to 90 percent of Shonen protagonists

Just got back from a 2 week holiday in Japan and blasted through Pluto on the flight home - it absolutely rocks, phenomenal noses. 🤥 also I know all streaming services are evil but it was nice that I could download a tonne of anime for the flight with a basic Netflix subscription - Crunchyroll wanted me to upgrade to premium! Eat the rich!!

I honestly don't think that I've ever felt so affected by the end of a TV show before. I've watched the series twice now since the podcast started, once alone and once with my girlfriend who doesn't really watch anime and she absolutely loved it. It's honestly one of my favourite series now, and I wanna throw Dorohedoro into the ring as the next series.

Notrock

That ending in a word: Sandevistating!

The month of Cyberpunk convinced me to give the game another try after bouncing off it the first time, had a total blast this time around. Been great rewatching the anime and listening to your recaps along side it. Also as a life long Godzilla fan, hearing you guys discuss some Godzilla movies would be awesome.

Since y'all talked about Monster on this episode, would y'all ever consider covering it? I know it's a huge show, but I always found it really interesting as a criminologist.

Ted Kord

On the subject of how ubiquitous Jujutsu Kaisen is, in my GI Clinic's waiting room there was a series of drawings by 4th graders with the theme "Sustainable Development Goals" on the wall. One kid drew Itadori and another kid drew Gojo. Not exactly sure how those relate, but it was awesome seeing JJK stuff in the wild like that.

On the last episode the moon reminded me so much of Futurama that I was expecting to see some singing animatronic whalers.

I hope Matt has continued to check out Fujimoto's other manga work. "Look Back" really resonated with me. It's easily one of my favorite comic books.

Choom Talk - check out Godzilla: Singular point for a taste of Godzilla anime! It was...something!

Like many here, I watched Edgerunners back when it first released and overall remembered it well as it left such an impression. Except for a clearly faulty memory of Rebecca surviving… Still a magnificent show on 2nd watch that I’m glad to have revisited.

I’ve got 2 eps of Pluto left. Have really loved it so far. I’m a big fan of the manga and Urasawa generally. Pluto being probably my favourite of his series. I started a new job this year and as a treat to myself I started buying all of the 20th Century Boys volumes as that was the series that really got me into Urasawa in the first place some 16 or so years ago, and wanted to re-read and own it finally. Regret nothing. I did start re-watching Monster when it dropped onto Netflix this past year, too. Glad to see Urasawa’s work getting attention and becoming more available to access.

One possible way to do the Month of Godzilla would be to choose a film representing each of the four eras - Showa (1954-1975), Heisei (1984-1995), Millenium (1999-2004), and Reiwa (2016-present).

i really, truly hated this show. i don’t usually get angry about things i dislike, and i even really love CP2077! but i found this so cheap, lurid, and hollow, and it just felt like such a pointless waste of time. it indulges so many of the absolute worst impulses of modern “prestige” TV, just reveling in misery with nothing insightful to say about it beyond “isn’t this fucked up?” but i’m not above watching some pointless trash, i just prefer mine to be about kissing instead of murder lol. so no shade to anybody who does like it. just not for me. still enjoyed the pod as always tho!

The violence in this show can be at once so slick and stylized, while also feeling oddly grounded and heartwrenching. As soon as Maine died, I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Definitely wasn't expecting a happy ending, but the bummer finale still felt earned and not just being dark for darkness sake. Absolutely loved it!

I love y'all but I'm begging you to post the patreon feed to spotify, the patreon app media player is so garbage on mobile

I don't usually get down with tragedies, but when done right they really hit hard. The ending on the moon so perfectly captures that sense of beauty and sadness, I loved it. Thanks for putting me on to this show, y'all are the best.

This joins Evangelion and Chainsaw Man in S tier for me I absolutely loved watching this. That being said, episode 10 made me sob and I’m mad at you

Randell Flag

Loved the show. The one thing didn't like was David's arc. Like the whole time everyone is saying to live for himself, but he never does. I would like to wish a speedy recovery to the world warrior!

Love and will miss the Autumn of Cyberpunk. The anime is an incredible addition. Also, as a Godzilla fan, I want to second what Daniel Barron is saying about each of the eras. Specifically, I would recommend: Gojira (1954) - The original and an incredible film, the American recut with Raymond Burr is also good, but nothing like the original Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991) - A wild movie with plenty to talk about. Godzilla meets the Terminator. Includes a Steven Spielberg reference, for some reason Godzilla Final Wars (2004) - Godzilla fights every major monster in this one. One of the most fun action films I have ever seen, very weird Shin Godzilla (2016) - An incredible new take on Godzilla. Fantastic film.

Rin Manzano

Still bitter how Rebecca went out to the point where I found her shotgun in the game and immediately murked Adam Smasher with it

After the talk of the Jay Leno Doritos commercial, I discovered there are more than a few Doritos commercials with Jay Leno. This Cool Ranch one was my favorite. Cool Ranch supremacy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4ilSxGSZ6w Edgerunners ripped and got me so fucking pumped, but also made me cry more than once; the duality of man, I suppose. The finale was preem, and the way they used "I Really Wanna Stay at Your House" at the end was peak. The lyrics just hit so differently after watching the complete series. Honestly, a Masterpiece anime for me because it told a complete story, and doesn't overstay its welcome on length or pacing.

I hope heather is feeling better and can be back on if you read this. I forgot how good Edge Runners was and how quickly it moves. I thought Main was around for longer, or even most the crew. I also enjoyed how the Chum Talk turned into To-Night City Show with Jay Leno. That's right Heather, while you were gone this became a Jay Leno podcast. I want to add that I love standup comedy, but growing up I was more of a Jay Leno watcher and never really watched Letterman. I feel like that is the reverse for anyone that loved comedy.

Please tell Heather that the cancer will come to fear her just as much as the rest of us do and we are thinking about her and Mary.

If you guys do a Godzilla month, definitely do Godzilla 2000! The ending alone is the most hilarious and amazing thing I’ve ever watched!

Peep_My_Meeps

Edgerunners is one of the best shows i have ever seen, but im not really in a place to handle the rewatch right now. This is the first time ive not kept up with the podcast because i really like the experiencing the podcast and the show together. Im super happy you guys brought more attention to what is, for me, a top 5 show of all time, and i cant wait to potentially never rewatch this audio/visual presentation on how to instantly give someone depression. I love that these episodes of the pod will stay in my feed until i cave in an listen to it anyways, cant wait to see which show is next since its been 5 weeks since i listened to get animed now!

Stewart Payne

As someone who watched every Godzilla movie a couple of years ago, I have a couple of pitches if a Godzilla month happens. Godzilla vs. Mothra (‘92) and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah are likely the two best aside from the original and would likely make for less tired discussion than rehashing the original.

oom

I liked this show a lot in its quiet moments. Loved how the world was evoked, and I did have affection and empathy for the characters. I thought the action and violence became kind of dull/repetitive/uninteresting by about episode 6, and pretty unbelievable, even within the fiction. Didn't love the overclocked pacing, and it ultimately left me a little let down. Still a pretty good show, and an interesting watch. Love the podcast, as always, and wishing well to Heather, and to all of you.

Straychocobo

It's been a few weeks now since finishing this show and it still haunts me. David's arc was a deeply tragic one and I really hurt for him as you watch him lose his mind. I also really appreciated (and thought they could have done more with) how the show draws a line between David's plunge into edge running and wanton violence leading to many more dead moms and pissed off Davids. So in a Breaking Bad or even Shadow of the Colossus type of way, you realize that the protagonist is a terrible person, but even so, you can't help but feel deeply sorry for them and even root for them. Would you agree with that? If so, what do you think that's about?

Men would literally rather get themselves and their whole crew brutally murdered to buy their lover a bus ticket to moon Disney rather than go to therapy

Choom talk: An arc from an anime is a great idea. I would recommend a DBZ. The Garlic Jr. Saga is pretty short. The first piece of DBZ media I owned happened to be this Arc; the Dead Zone on tape recorded from Toonami and the Black Water Mist saga from a VHS purchased from at a thrift store that didn't have anything else. A movie and 3 episodes. Good times! 👍
