I loved the FMV stuff, you’re totally right, it really helps the shift in tone and pace.

Q for everyone: if you could have a Captain Laserhawk style show but with a different video game publisher or developer, which one would you pick and who would be on the squad?? 🤔

A little late here but checked out Pluto on Netflix after I think Heather brought it up a few weeks ago. Was so intrigued at the idea of a chapter of Astro Boy reimagined as a gritty, murder mystery that I had to check out what that was like. Was immediately engrossed. Glad to hear Nick is reading it, thinking about doing the same and happy you’re all planning to do a watch along in the future. Wishing Heather a safe and peaceful recovery.

Really enjoying this show. Can’t believe Ubisoft have allowed some of their characters to be used how they have, but it makes for some unpredictable entertainment!

What have they done to my boy Sam Fisher?

What an exhausting show, I’m out

The next two episodes have the biggest shocks yet! Can’t wait. Also with regard to the politics being all over, I think they went with the universal basic income angle as a joke about UBI. It never really gets followed up on. Alex’s politics don’t seem to have any substance beyond anarchism either. The lack of a coherent message is a big flaw, but i enjoyed it as a popcorn flick.

Hinging your escape plan on a man that has been captive and unable to walk for 10+ years is a wildly bold choice

Ray-man eating sushi off a nude whatever-the-fuck is exactly the kind of distasteful bullshit I don’t care for with this property

As an aside, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’s trailers share the same DNA as the show even if entirely unrelated (since it’s set in the future year of 2007), and you’d be shocked, shocked!, to find you play the whole thing in a couple of sittings. For me, that game was my introduction to Far Cry, which is almost the equivalent of this show being your introduction to RayMan.

Jay Leno Joke Incoming Have you heard of this show Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix on Netflix? It's got more animation styles than my grandma has knitting needles! I haven't seen this many mixed styles since I tried to match my socks after laundry day! It has more animation styles than I have remote controls. I feel like I need a user manual just to navigate through the visuals. It's like they asked every artist in town, "Hey, want to contribute to a show?" and ended up with a masterpiece or a visual potluck, depending on your perspective!

Kenny Omega is the GD GOAT. Go watch his Wrestle Kingdom matches against Okada. Jericho, and Ospreay if you want an entry point to his career and style. His finishing move is called "The One-Winged Angel." He's basically already an anime character.

Great to hear about Nick’s thoughts on Vinland Saga S2 now he’s finished it. I watched as it aired, having loved S1, and I thought S2 was a near perfect addition. I loved the change of tone, and thought the stories it told of the other cast while Thorfinn processed his guilt and came to his ultimate position in the series so far was excellent. Perhaps trying to blast through it may intensify the sadness of the setting, but week to week it felt just right and it cemented the show as one of my favourites of the last few years by quite a good margin. It took a fantastic action show into a contemplative and thoughtful space in a way that explored the first version of it, and found it to be beautifully done. Love it.

Hearing the boys wonder how Ubisoft allowed this show to exist, I read some interviews with the creator (https://www.ign.com/articles/captain-laserhawk-a-blood-dragon-remix-creator-on-the-series-big-swings-from-rayman-to-the-warden). Turns out he did some YouTube short films parodying Pokémon, Power Rangers, etc with this same style of graphic violence / irreverence and that’s what Ubisoft wanted. They literally sent an Ubisoft exec to all of the pitch meetings with networks just to say, “yes, we’re really okay with this.” I love their willingness to let the director do whatever he wanted with these IPs!

What if early internet era randomness developed a six episode animated series, with Duke Nukem as creative consultant? Wouldn't that fucking kick extreme fucking ass?

Tmacc

I just finished the 6th episode and I have no fucking idea what just happened or what exactly this show is trying to say LOL All I know for a fact is...Rayman (Ramon) went fucking wild in this one

Matt and Nick mentioned the cobra juice scene reminded them of Slurm from Futurama, but I was immediately reminded of Simple Rick's Waffer Bars from Rick & Morty. Both Futurama and Rick & Morty are riffing on an alternate version of Willy Wonka.
