Nick made the right call with stopping after the second dune book.

Keirik

somehow not the worst Tekken adaptation and just barely the most insane one

Sexy Grandma's Retirement Home

Heather: "Holy shit!" [clearly reacting to the craziness on screen] Nick & Matt: [continue discussing hair styles] Me: "Yup. This exactly what I was expecting." Also, it's been like 15 years since I saw Silent Hill, but my memory is that Pyramid Head rips the skin off a woman and throws her empty skinbag at a wall. At the end of the movie the crazy cult lady gets cut in half vertically by a bunch of animated barbed wire but it's from the crotch up to her head, so kind of the opposite of what Heather was talking about. These two scene are all I remember of that movie because they were so graphic and unnecessary that it was deeply disturbing.

I'd like to submit Tektalk and Talken for your consideration as the addition to the listener feedback name.

I’m watching Eva in Japanese for the first time. I stopped to watch Tekken. That means I’d rather watch a mid anime with you guys than the best anime ever by myself. Love you guys!

Console Canon

My takeaway from this commentary track is that you guys would have a freaking blast playing the Story Mode of Tekken 8! It's so much fun and so transcendently silly. Possibly my favorite fighting game campaign ever (and a brisk four-ish hours). If that's not enough of a sell, the bear's Super is a fish that turns into a missile launcher.

Logan Smith

I would like to take the opportunity while you guys are in between series to suggest a segment. It would be called "I'm just super saiyan" and you could share hot anime takes. I felt like it was too good an idea for it to be locked in my brain, so you guys can have that one.

Cal

I liked when Nick said “man meat”.

While I listened to this, I was using a scroll saw, to make, what were supposed to be, pretty intricate cuts, and I finally had to pause the episode, because the amount of sudden gasps and exclamations kept making me lose my focus, and I didn't want to lose a finger tip. Which is something I witnessed a guy do, as he brilliantly flicked lengths of dowel through a band saw. And he wasn't even listening to an anime podcast.

I think I could safely assume I might be the biggest Tekken fan out of all of your listeners (200+ hours in Tekken 8 right now), and I wasn’t the least bit mad by the episode like you guys kept saying. In fact, I’m surprised to hear you guys seem to like this movie more than I did! This was better than I remember, but even for somebody well-versed in the game’s lore, it was still a bit inscrutable at times and Kazuya’s hair transforming throughout the movie really took me out of it PS: the sumo wrestler, Ganryu, will forever be referred to as F. Suzuki by me from now on 😂

Nick: “this guys is horny” Matt: “what about the guy on tv, nick?” Didn’t get the moment that absolute gem deserved. So quick…

Edwin (edoco18)

I’ve never played or been interested in Tekken, but after that Kangaroo punched that guy I immediately went to the Tekken wiki and found some insane facts. His partner and friend is a crocodile with boxing gloves called Alex, he got married to another kangaroo, who later divorced him so that she could raise their son on her own. And then the son is a playable character in Tekken 5! So it made me wonder… Does Tekken rock?!

An audio only watch-along is certainly a novel idea

This episode was a real good time, I loved the energy of the gang just hanging out watching a movie. I'm also excited for the Solo Leveling series, the manwha was good and I've been enjoying the show.

clearplastichuman

watching this with you guys made it feel like i have friends

Shaun Anderson

Nick, I wanted Guile hair when I was a kid too!

corndog

kuma (the bear) is the reason i play fighting games. he's not just my favorite tekken character or even my favorite fighting game character but my favorite character in all media. probably because bears are my favorite animal and i love punching. bummer that he wasn't really in the movie but you can see him a lot if you play tekken 8... 😉🐻👊

I had zero tekken knowledge before watching along today, now I love tekken? What just happened. More Solo Leveling! What great news. Excited to watch along with y’all. Could you throw Delicious in as well if everyone is also watching it? First double feature series? Delicious can be a refreshing anime Digestif after Solo Leveling. Angry up the blood with some monster murder and then soothe yourself out sipping on some, technically also monster murder, but in a refreshing relaxing cooking style.

David Mucci

With the number of times Heather mentioned seatbelts, I thought the next series was going to be Cowboy Bebop

Dave Mirabelli

Long time listener to the mainstream pod and new patron here so apologies if they've already been brought up. Ever consider watching Haikyuu? Its pretty popular and makes me want a do-over of my childhood. Truly captures what it means to be a kid of that age...or you could just watch One Punch Man kill things with soulless eyes. Either way, great options. Love you all.

Im back for the Delicious in Dungeon talk, without going into spoilers, i will say that the show and manga do a ton of gentle world building in these cozy sequences that doesn't feel like its just lore dumping on you. but pays off so strongly in the long run. As far as budget goes, I think trigger is bringing so much to the action in the show. and as someone reading the manga its kinda better then i ever expected an adaptation would be. its my favorite manga being adapted by my favorite studio.

KuPaoChicken

I saw Tekken the motion picture in theaters and everyone was serious about it. But when that panda started flying around I just burst out laughing in the whole theater. Lost it. They were all laughing. Some girl said I'm trying to watch the movie!! Everybody started throwing popcorn at her. So great

Rin Manzano

There is a Tekken limited series on Netflix called Bloodlines which technically takes place after this movie

The Mountain That Abides

You'd call the listener comment segment for this movie "Talkken," right? Right????

Kyle Caulfield

I am standing on a mountain of cars with their engines red-lining, more seatbelt than man, ready for the next episode of Get Animed

Dean Smiros

Every time Matt calls out King I was thinking about the One Piece character King who isn't in the show for like 980 episodes. *Small spoiler* ... The One Piece King is a leather daddy pterodactyl man and also the only person left of his race

Lark

Hey, this might be a fun question: When you start a new show and see the OP, what do you find yourself looking for? I like seeing the artist’s name and song name and hope it’s something really inexplicable.

Handsome Bane

MATT!!! You took me out when you stuck the Rick & Morty landing.

BruceWayneBrady

As a longtime Tekken fan, I remember seeing this movie once years ago. Watching it again with your commentary made this WAY better. Also, Tekken 8 has a free demo that I highly recommend. This game is the best place in the series to start for new players. Love the show!
